BP: Oil Leak Is Due To Failed Equipment

From Jake Tapper at ABC News:

BP Official – Open Heart Surgery at 5,000 Feet; Believes Cause is Failed Equipment

By Jake Tapper

May 02, 2010

BP America Chairman and President Lamar McKay told me efforts to trigger the blowout preventer to stop the flow of oil from the sea floor are like performing “open heart surgery at 5,000 feet in the dark with robot-controlled submarines.”  During my exclusive “This Week” interview,  McKay said he believes the cause of the explosion on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig that led the loss of 11 lives and to its eventual sinking was “a failed piece of equipment”.  McKay added, “We don’t know why it failed yet in this contracted rig.”

McKay said BP, oil industry and government partners are working on four fronts to manage the massive spill:  1) stopping the leak at the source, 2) working on a containment system to collect the oil below the surface and channel the flow through a pipe, 3) fighting to keep oil from washing up on shore and 4) dealing with the clean-up of any oil on and off shore.

A containment dome, McKay said, has been fabricated and is in the final engineering phase.  McKay said he expects the dome to be deployed in 6-8 days.

Estimates of how much oil is emanating from the sea floor are “very difficult,” McKay said, “because you can’t measure [it] in any way accurately.”  He added that “there is a large uncertainty range” around the estimate of 5,000 barrels per day that is said to be flowing from the well.

You can just hear the left crossing their fingers in the hope that piece of equipment was made by Halliburton.

Why doesn’t the Moron stop the leak?

I thought the government, and particularly his wonderfullness, was all powerful.

Or at least, he should make the oceans recede to protect the coastline.

Seems to me the company was in a hurry and only waited 48 hours for the freshly cemented oil wells to dry. Obama was in too much a hurry (as usual) to drill.
Obama’s a speed freak. Pushing high-speed trains to go faster and farther, along with social issues.

Who’s Obama’s global warming environmental CZAR, now that Jones was relocated in the prez’s communications dept. Some Poly Sci drop out?

The Washington Times: Obama climate czar has socialist ties
    Stephen Dinan Jan 12 2009

Until last week, Carol M. Browner, President-elect Barack Obama’s pick as global warming czar, was listed as one of 14 leaders of a socialist group’s Commission for a Sustainable World Society, which calls for “global governance” and says rich countries must shrink their economies to address climate change.

By Thursday, Mrs. Browner’s name and biography had been removed from Socialist International’s Web page, though a photo of her speaking June 30 to the group’s congress in Greece was still available.

Mr. Obama, who has said action on climate change would be a priority in his administration, tapped Mrs. Browner last month to fill a new position as White House coordinator of climate and energy policies.

Until she was tapped for the Obama administration, she was on the board of directors for the National Audubon Society, the League of Conservation Voters, the Center for American Progress and former Vice President Al Gore’s Alliance for Climate Protection.

Her name has been removed from the Gore organization’s Web site list of directors, and the Audubon Society issued a press release about her departure from that organization….

These are questions that merit answers – especially when you consider this group’s deep skepticism about America’s ability to be a force for positive change in the world,” she said.

An aide on the Obama team said its information shows that Mrs. Browner resigned from the organization in June 2008.

The Socialist International Web site didn’t have a copy of her June 30 speech, but the agenda for the meeting had her scheduled to speak…

Other panel participants were Sergey Mironov, speaker of the Russian legislature’s upper chamber and a close ally of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin; Zhang Zhijun, vice minister of the International Department of the Chinese Communist Party’s Central Committee; and Jesus Caldera, a former Minister of Employment and Social Affairs of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party.

The organization distinguishes itself from violent or revolutionary communist parties. However, some such groups, including the Chinese Communist Party, have been invited to its events as guest organizations.

…Mrs. Browner was listed as an individual member of Socialist International…

At this summer’s meeting, the group issued a statement on economics that blasted the “neo-liberal market ideology and the unilateralist, U.S.-dominated approach in the global economic system,” and attacked the U.S. for dominating international financial institutions.

At a July meeting in St. Petersburg, the commission said developed countries “should think of decreasing current consumption levels” – which would mean shrinking their economies – in order to help the environment.

Socialist International regularly blasts the construction of fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border. The fence was approved by both houses of Congress, including with Mr. Obama’s vote in the Senate.

Just another reminder that Obama’s pulling America down to the dark ages, is deliberate. I don’t think Obama should be allowed to leave the country. lol.

CNN: In ironic twist, BP finalist for pollution prevention award

    Call it a tragic irony.

BP, now under federal scrutiny because of its role in the deadly Gulf of Mexico explosion and oil spill, is one of three finalists for a federal award honoring offshore oil companies for “outstanding safety and pollution prevention.”

The winner of the award – chosen before the April 20 oil rig incident – was to be announced this coming Monday at a luncheon in Houston. But the U.S. Department of Interior this week postponed the awards ceremony,…

…. Winners of the award are kept secret until the ceremony, she said.

According to a Department of Interior’s website,… BP specifically was nominated in the High OCS Activity Operator category, for companies engaged in operations on the outer continental shelf.

The program began in 1999, and is for a company’s performance the previous year. British Petroleum has won the award once before, in 1992.

So, the Award explains BP’s hurry to ship off, before the cement was dry on the ship’s oil wells, so BP would look like they had qualified for the awards ceremony. Just like Obama getting the Noble Peace Prize before his election.

  5. Rorschach256 says:

They can uncross their fingers, the BOP stack was built by Cameron.

But Halliburton was doing the cementing operations that were underway at the time.
