Britain Sanctions Shoe Throwing Protests

From the UK’s Times:

Met allows Islamic protesters to throw shoes

Protesters throw shoes at a placard of Barack Obama in Jakarta, Indonesia

SCOTLAND YARD has bowed to Islamic sensitivities and accepted that Muslims are entitled to throw shoes in ritual protest — which could have the unintended consequence of politicians or the police being hit.

News of the concession by the Metropolitan police has come to light amid a series of trials of more than 70 mostly Muslim demonstrators who were charged with violent disorder after last year’s Gaza protests outside the Israeli embassy in London.

Aquib Salim, 21, an IT student at Queen Mary, London University, who was involved in a shoe-throwing incident, is almost certain to avoid a prison sentence as a result.

Chris Holt, Salim’s solicitor, said he was likely to get a suspended sentence after he pleaded guilty to a single charge of throwing a stick at police lines.

“The court accepted that the earlier shoe-throwing incident was simply a ritual form of protest and therefore not a criminal act of violence,” Holt said.

Judge Denniss agreed that the act of shoe-throwing should not be considered in a charge of violent disorder against the student because it was “a symbolic” political gesture…

A spokesman for the Crown Prosecution Service admitted this weekend that the police advice to the Downing Street protesters was a factor in the case at Isleworth crown court, west London.

It has now emerged that the Metropolitan police first told protesters of its stance on shoe-throwing shortly after the attack on Bush.

The concession has already been taken up enthusiastically by Muslim demonstrators, who pelted Downing Street with shoes in protest at the Israeli bombing of Gaza last year.

Dozens of ski-boots and clogs were also hurled at the US consulate in Edinburgh in a related protest, in which three policemen sustained minor injuries…

Luckily, Great Britain has no constraints on doing anything that smacks of ‘establishing’ a religion.

But mind you, in the US you can’t even hold a protest sign with a wooden pole, lest someone get hurt.

Obamy’s gonna have to use his “opening day pitch” grin if he sees this picture.

I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to
    Barry’s face instead of Bush.

    So much for appeasement.

Did we ever think we would agree on anything the muslims would do?

Somehow this shoe thing…with the Obama picture…seems so right to me.

  4. bousquem says:

I wonder if now throwing flaming shoes and shoe bombs will be the new favorite tactic for the violent political protests.

Hope this is included in Obama starring role in Indonesia documentary he tried to film in the midst of health care, in guise of a family vacation risking his daughter’s safety to see his Indonesia home he will always consider his true home, the perfect role model country for the world. Gibbs did spin this later and say Obama was merely following up on spreading his Cairo Speech to the world.

Could this explain the huge plane full of film equipment that accompanied Obama to Hawaii this Christmas, that he didn’t use, and was to busy to even notice the Christmas Eve Underpanty Muslim Bomber?

This movie president Obama is working on while destroying America is also mentioned on wikipedia, along with a more detailed account of Obama’s mother. Of course the dates don’t add up, as his mother claims she was 18 when she gave birth. It does not include that Obama’s mother telling her son, that she was accepted at age 16 to the University of Chicago, where she was on her own working as an au pair. Her father would not allow it. Yes, communist Frank Marshall Davis, Obama’s mentor not only lived blocks away from Obama’s mother in Kansas, but preached communism in Chicago, and then 3rd’s a charm. They end up in Hawaii too. Small world.

Interested in craftsmanship, weaving and the role of women in cottage industries, Dunham’s research focused on women’s work on the island of Java and blacksmithing in Indonesia. To address the problem of poverty in rural villages, she created microcredit programs while working as a consultant for the United States Agency for International Development. Dunham was also employed by the Ford Foundation in Jakarta and she consulted with the Asian Development Bank in Pakistan. Towards the latter part of her life, she worked with Bank Rakyat Indonesia, where she helped apply her research to the largest microfinance program in the world.[4]

…. exhibition of Dunham’s Indonesian batik textile collection toured the United States; and in December 2009, Duke University Press published Surviving against the Odds: Village Industry in Indonesia, a book based on Dunham’s 1992 dissertation.

In an interview, Barack Obama referred to his mother as “the dominant figure in my formative years… The values she taught me continue to be my touchstone when it comes to how I go about the world of politics.”[5]

…Her daughter, Maya Soetoro-Ng, wrote the foreword for the book. In his afterword, Boston University anthropologist Robert W. Hefner describes Dunham’s research as “prescient” and her legacy as “relevant today for anthropology, Indonesian studies, and engaged scholarship.”[44] The book was

” launched” at the 2009 annual meeting of the American Anthropological Association with a “special Presidential Panel on Dunham’s work”.

(((was this that medal handing out thing where Obama gave a medal to all of his mother’s hero’s like dreamy Sidney & that singer whose daughter is also famous)))))

In 2009, an exhibition of Dunham’s Javanese batik textile collection (A Lady Found a Culture in its Cloth: Barack Obama’s Mother and Indonesian Batiks) toured six museums in the United States, finishing the tour at the Textile Museum of Washington, D.C. in August.[45]

Ann Dunham: A Most Generous Spirit, a feature documentary depicting Dunham’s life, is scheduled to begin production in 2010……….. The production team is currently negotiating for the participation of President Barack Obama.[47]

I do hope Obama’s new movie includes Obama explanation of lecturing his mother that her work in the Third World was wrong. His mom and sister left his apartment after a few days to spend the rest of the month at a rich friend’s condominium on Park Avenue while they were away.
      Will Obama explain this.

“When we met for dinner, they would give me a detailed report of their adventures: eating strawberries and cream at the Plaza, taking the ferry to the Statue of Liberty, visiting the Cezannes at the Met. I would eat in silence until they were finished and then begin a long discourse on the problems of the city and the politics of the dispossessed. I scolded Maya for spending one evening watching TV instead of reading the novels I’d bought for her. I instructed my mother on the various ways that foreign donors and international development organizations like the one she was working for bred dependence in the Third World. When the two of them withdrew to the kitchen, I would overhear Maya complaining to my mother.
“Barry’s okay, isn’t he? I mean, I hope he doesn’t lose his cool and become one of those freaks you see on the streets around here.”
Barack Obama “Dreams from My Father 1994

My opinion of how Obama complains his mother was thinking of only her own needs in wanting a black husband, and his tendency to believe white people no matter how nice, talked behind black people’s backs, and most bizarre is his belief that no one would see what he saw. My opinion is that he is fixated that whites are racists. That black people that do things with whites are Uncle Toms. That what he calls half-breeds, who want to be called Americans and not be called by the color or race, are Uncle Tom’s too.

President Barack Obama’s Late Mother Becomes The Subject Of New Documentary

President Barack Obama’s late mother is getting her own documentary. Aloe Entertainment is working on a new project that will center on the U.S. leader’s biggest life influence….

(I don’t see Obama’s mother as his biggest influence. He was closer to his step-father Lolo while in Indonesia. It was do to his like of morals that she sent Obama back to live with his grandparents. Obama chose to live with his grandparents in teens, because they would let him do what he wanted, (as long as he didn’t bring it home with him. And Obama wanted to stay and play basketball at the University of Hawaii, but his mother didn’t. After all he could go to any college he wanted, and his grades were slipping, and his friend just went to jail for drugs. What a little spoiled tyrant that hasn’t grown up.
Gosh darn. I was hoping stardom would make Obambi not care about another term, but he’s getting his cake and eating it too. I think he should be fired, or at least not get paid!!!

  7. Mithrandir says:

HA HA HA! This is what I have been talking about!

The fascist liberal police state VS. The fascist conservative Islamic state.

Both radicals are on a collision course! Who is going to be able to be more fascist? I don’t know, we will see who blinks first.

Step out of the way, and let these two competing ideologies smack into each other. American conservatives should stop moderating between the two, step aside and let them smash into each other.

  8. Liberals Make Great Speedbumps says:

So let me get this straight, I can now stand in the center of London and fire an AK47 in the air because I’m celebrating since that is a cultural tradition? Well, that is, were I allowed to own an AK47 in England.
