Bush Acts On Drilling, Congress Still Won’t
From the outraged Gaia worshippers at the Associated Press:
Bush to lift executive ban on offshore drilling
By BEN FELLER, Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON - In another push to deal with soaring gas prices, President Bush on Monday will lift an executive ban on offshore drilling that his stood since his father was president. But the move, by itself, will do nothing unless Congress acts as well.
The president plans to officially lift the ban and explain his actions in a Rose Garden statement, White House press secretary Dana Perino said.
There are two prohibitions on offshore drilling, one imposed by Congress and another by executive order signed by former President Bush in 1990. The current president, trying to ease market tensions and boost supply, called last month for Congress to lift its prohibition before he did so himself.
But Perino said Bush no longer wants to wait. She pinned blame on the leaders of the Democratic Congress for inaction.
"They haven’t even held a single hearing," Perino said. "So we are going to move forward, and hopefully that will spur action by the Congress."
Asked if Bush’s action alone will lead to more oil drilling, Perino said, "In terms of allowing more exploration to go forward? No, it does not." ..
One suspects that the executive order blocking offshore drilling is minimal at best. And, as Ms. Perino notes, this will not lead to any more drilling.
But it does help point up how recalcitrant Congress is being.

Of course Pelosi claims it is just Bush kissing up to his Big Oil buddies. Hoping that Americans are truly the numbed skulls they know they are, the Democrats whine that Big Oil already has plenty of oil leases (just one problem and they know it—NO oil there!) and that starting now won’t help ease the prices at the pump. Like why start dieting now—you won’t lose weight for weeks or months! I can hear Harry Milktoast Reid whining now—-”Big Oil is so mean—I want my mommy–whaaa, whaaa….”

GREAT PRESIDENT !
If only the Maverick would have demanded Congress NOT go on vacation, and worked in Washington to pass his new vision on Energy…
It would have dramatically shown everyone he is fighting, and not just talking.
And if he got something worthy passed, he would be able to use it big time in the Campaign.
On another note, isn’t it interesting to see the Liberal Democrats who screwed up FANNYMAYYY?
Do Liberal Democrats always mess everything up, needing to be bailed out?
Just like Gray Davis in California?
Clinton left us in a recession with those mindless tax increases, giving Enron massive Loan Guarantees, etc., and ignored the rising threat of Islamic Extremism.
The Clintons actually worked to make the USA more vulnerable, with the old Gorelick Wall, and the pathetic Torricelli Intel Reform.
Now Nancy, Harry, and WAXMAN are busy doing nothing but nothing, except partisan investigations into nothing.

HNAV - SanFranGrandNan is trying for another first - a zero percentage favorable polling for the 110th Do Less Than Nothing Congress. Come on - this Congress is about firsts and since so many are suffering from bds or pretending that they are not associated with evil bushiterburtonco that they will investigate, hold hearings and blame some other group next week about the rising oil prices while doing nothing toward a realistic energy solution. Probably even tied these oil companies into long term leases on land they knew could either not be drilled or had no oil - just to create this ‘crisis’ just to point fingers at everyone (most especially evil ‘Big Oil’) and do nothing. . . Besides they are so stupid that they act like President Bush is going to be on the ticket in Nov. . .How anyone can equate the RHINO maverick McAmnesty (which Shamnesty is probably the only thing that they have in common) with Bush is beyond me.
And meanwhile stoopid, moron chimp Bush manages once again to back them into a corner and accomplish what he sets out to do. . .So who are the morons? Maybe, just maybe the it’s the ones whose favorable is 3 times lower than President Bush’s?!?

Of course no oil company would even think about drilling, simply because no matter which candidate wins in November, they will reimpose the executive order and of course Congress would never act.
Thus the rich and famous who own homes on the coasts need not worry about oil drilling while being driven around in their limos and on their private planes, horrified at the tales of expensive gas told to them by their housekeepers, nannies and cooks.
Not unlike most members of Congress, actually.
