Anyone have a good reason why Bush has been so commutation-happy?

Libby and these guys should all have been pardoned.

The commutation means their records will show they were still guilty of the crimes in question.

Meanwhile, if you don’t recall, Bush pardoned a drug-toting rapper:

John Edward Forte, a Grammy Award-winning rapper, is arguably the best known of those pardoned. He was arrested at Newark International Airport in 2000 after being found with a briefcase containing $1.4m of cocaine and was sentenced to 14 years in prison.

Forte, who has always protested his innocence, co-wrote and produced two songs on The Score, the Fugees’ Grammy-winning 1996 album and several singers, including Carly Simon, had joined a campaign for his pardon, claiming he was not given a fair-trial.

The singer, of North Brunswick, New Jersey, will be released after serving half of a 14 year sentence.

And President Bush did this against complete and total and relentless personal villification by the Dems, the media, the moonbats, and most of the perpetually impotent European countries. Pres. Bush has been the most attacked and maligned and falsely accused President ever, and yet he stood firm to his principles on certain issues. It takes an incredbily disciplined person to do that -. He tried to govern for all people so, yes, he compromised. But he didn’t back down from his core beliefs. As horrible as he’s been treated, he’s a hero and, I believe, spiritually inspired to stand strong against such unrelenting hatred by the left (who love to hate). That’s not being a chickenshit – even though he didn’t always do what I would have liked. P.S. I wish I had even a little of his fortitude.

While it would’ve been great for these two men to receive full pardons, they are getting out of prison. I’ll bet they’re grateful for that. I am.

Bush freed 50 million people+2. He kept us safe from another attack despite the best effort of the yellow-bellied moonbats to make us vulnerable for the past eight years. That protection ends today.

Bush gave more to HIV research than the First Black President, and I doubt the Second Black president will come even close to matching that figure.

Bush kept the economy humming until the Franks-Clinton-Carter Socialist Mortgage Give-away caught up with reality. There should be investigations, but that won’t happen with these communists in charge. They’ll simply stuff documents in their socks and re-write history.

This economy melt-down was engineered by the Libs to win the election. I don’t hear any of them whining about not being able to pay their bills. Why would they? Their pockets, freezers, and off-shore accounts are stuffed with our tax dollars.

There’s your “chicken-shit.”

I agree they should have been pardoned, but I don’t think Felon will cary much weight with employers who know their names and that is quite a few. I certainly would hire them. Someone will take care of them even if the president refused to.

I’m very happy they’re out, but it was too little too late. Now they’re probably broke, can’t get their jobs back and missed their families for a very long time – not to mention at least one of them getting beaten severely in prison.

Either way – I’d like to thank them for their service and wish them well.

The prosecution argued that they did not report the shooting to their immediate supervisor. What the prosecution did not allow to be admitted into testimony (Sutton objected and the judge sustained his objection) is that the BP rule book only requires a VERBAL report to the immediate supervisor, not a written one. So the jury was under the impression that Ramos and Compean had failed in their responsibility to report a shooting. Since the supervisor was there at the scene, and discused the shooting with them, there was no coverup.

Also the matter about their shell casings: BP are taught to pick up their shell casings whenever possible, Having spoke with a Texas BP about this matter, the reason is to prevent any shell casings from a BP service weapon ever being picked up by someone else and used to implicate a BP in a crime as the markings made by their service weapons are registered with the FBI. The jury was also never informed of that, and Ramos and Compean had extremely incompetent legal representation.

I wonder how much money the prosecutors office took in from the drug cartels to make these men pay for actually stopping a 700 kilo pot shipment into the U.S. It stinks so badly of pay offs and bribery….yet nobody even tried to find out. This was, and still is, a huge wet stain on the Bush presidency…..a stain that wont come out until these men are cleared totally. Arrested for doing their job. Freezer has 90k in his house, and he’s still free. And Riche got a pardon for stealing billions…..see? It just doesnt fit.

I was given to understand that these guys were put in with the general population in prison -which is something you just don’t do with law-enforcement types, no matter what they supposedly did.
Someone’s head should roll for doing that to them.

So while I agree with the other posters that they should have been pardoned, I’m just glad to hear that they’re finally getting the hell out of there.
Hopefully they can now concentrate on getting the convictions overturned -without the distraction of having to fight for their virtue – - or their lives…

They picked up their shell casings and didn’t report the shooting right away. A dumb move but I think the real problem is that hey had no confidence that they would have the full protection of the law for doing their jobs. Same thing will happen to our troops tomorrow.

While I am happy for Ramos and Campean, President Bush should not be given too much credit with this one. Bush and his Justice Department screwed this up big time. Justice? Forgetabout it. Not in this one. The prosecutor was so thoroughly corrupt, I don’t think any rational person looking at the facts can come to any other conclusion. And, if I remember correctly, the prosecutor was an inside appointment by Bush out of Texas.
