CA Students (Some Naked) Protest ‘Cuts’

From the student run Berkeley handout, The Daily Californian:

Hundreds of College Students Protest Across Country, Rallying Against Funding Cuts to Public Education on Day of Protest

By Damian Ortellado and True Shields [sic]
Thursday, March 3, 2011

While there was a relatively small turnout to UC Berkeley’s campus protest Wednesday in opposition to California’s cuts to public education, other campuses nationwide hosted like-minded events in a display of solidarity with varied levels of support.

Doesn’t California enjoy the political leadership of a radical leftwing governor and a Democrat legislature?

From coast to coast, students marched, rallied and even occupied buildings in order to show their disdain for public education budget cuts as part of the day of protest.

In San Francisco, students and faculty from San Francisco State University marched for about two miles through gloom and rain to the City College of San Francisco’s Mission campus, where at 2 p.m. more than 200 gathered in a joint rally.

Campuses like UCLA, UC Irvine and UC Davis organized rallies despite experiencing the same poor weather as Bay Area universities.

Students and (lavishly paid) teachers rallied in the rain? In bitterly cold California? What a testimony to the indomitable human spirit!

A noon rally on Bruin Plaza at UCLA attracted between 200 and 300 people, according to Bob Samuels, president of the University Council – American Federation of Teachers – a union which represents lecturers, UC faculty and librarians.

Have any of the teachers unions offered to take any cuts to help lower the costs for these long suffering students?

A few hundred students at UC Santa Cruz focused their efforts over two days, first enacting a "naked protest" Tuesday by spelling out the words "Free Education" with their bare bodies on the campus’s East Field.

Somehow this event has not made it into the ‘mainstream’ news reports of these events. But just think what the coverage would be if Tea Party protesters would use these tactics?

But really, what shows dedication to a cause more than spelling out words with naked bodies? Why didn’t Gandhi think of this?

On Wednesday, about 300 rallied in Quarry Plaza at noon to protest the campus’s refusal to institute an ethnic studies program.

UC Santa Cruz doesn’t have an ‘ethnic studies program’? The outrage!

After rallying, about 75 students began occupying the Ethnic Resource Center at around 2 p.m. and were expected to stay through the night as of press time.

"We want to highlight the fact that this is a safe space for students of color when most people don’t know where it is," said UC Santa Cruz student organizer Leo Ritz-Barr [sic]

Thank goodness people of color (which apparently now includes Hispanics) have found a safe place for sanctuary on the UC Berkeley campus.

On the East Coast, schools including the University of Central Florida and Stony Brook University in New York also held rallies, aided in part by representatives from the United States Student Association – a national student advocacy group…

"We’re really trying to make this so its not an isolated day of action," he said. "We’re trying to take this message to the (nation’s) capital and really hammer this home."

Despite relatively low turnout at student rallies across the nation, some activists said they are optimistic about the day’s results and future protests.

"It’s just as perfect and whiny as a newborn baby can be," Ritz-Barr said.

We couldn’t have put it any better ourselves.

Ms reason has been asking whether we can take a trip to Greece. She believes, I think, that it is a modern civilized country with lots of culture and history.

I’m sensing that we can save some money now and just drive to Madison or California for a few days. When gas gets over $4 later this month, we’ll probably just travel there on the internet, unless the boy king rules that the internet is not constitutional.

  2. BigOil says:

They chose the right place to lay out a bunch of naked, slothful students. UC Santa Cruz – home of the banana slugs.

  3. TerryAnne says:

I want to know how many of the 200-300 students that “showed up” were there to laugh and point fingers?

And…a few universities in CA, one school in FL and one school in NY does not a revolution make. Might do these students some good to actually listen to the words of John Lennon: “you say you wanna Revolution/well you know/we all want to change the world….you say you’ll change the Constitution/well you know/we all want to change your head (or bed…depending on the version of the song)…if you go around carrying pictures of Chairman Mao/you ain’t gonna make it with anyone anyhow”

And a school doesn’t have an “ethnic studies program” (whatever that is…) but has an Ethnic Resource Center (whatever that is…) and these kids whine? Not to mention the whole taking over a purported “safe-haven” where students can feel welcome is the quickest way to make students feel unwelcome.

Perfect example how logic isn’t a requiste or component of college education anymore.

It’s nice to know that colleges are still the bastions of civil unrest and the benchmark for how to protest while au natural.

Oh, how they just need a cause, like Vietnam or….something. So they can, like, really like, make a difference, like y’know?

Bad logistical mistake. If they’d planned the rallies for April 20th (national marijuana day), they could’ve easily made it look like most of California and especially NorCal supports them.

And gas is 4/gal here. Roads are falling apart with potholes. Onramps just remain flooded out after rains. Traffic is constantly stalled.

Greece is the word, the word. And when it comes to state politics, we’re desperately trying to keep 5 Rino squishes from siding with the Marxists on tax increases. It’s pretty much over for us. Who knows where it goes from here except further downward.

  6. untrainable says:

Ah, the next generation of Birkenstock wearing dirt worshipers. Same as it ever was.
Did you ever notice that the protestors who go naked are always the ones that nobody wants to see naked? The braided armpit hair, the scruffy moustaches, the acrid stench of petuli and self loathing. And that’s just the girls!

UC Berkeley is where Obama’s half brother Mark studied physics. He wanted to discuss the “academic infighting” at his school, while Obambi tried to talk him into returning and saving Africa after their schooling. Mark tried to explain how horrible Obambi Sr. was, and Obambi implied all the more they needed to save Africa. Obama caused a long and real rif between the 2 with his anger and bigotry, and in the end Mark ended up choosing communist China to thrive in. Gosh, Obambi Sr. sure had a thing about white woman focused on communism.
If only Obambi had followed his original dreams he pushed on others, every American would be better off. I mean for Obambi to campaign for his African sharia law relative to win on his Senate’s dime of the people.
If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, it’s usually a duck. And Obama is not an American.

    • canary says:

Obama paid no attention to California’s students. Instead he flew to Florida H.S. to see what near 1 million dollars of our federal stimulus money did for it. Numbers are up, which will mean more money headed that way.

Ignorant uneducated students laying naked is not part of Obama’s requirements. Now if their getting free dinners with Michelle menu they might gain something.

Obama hasn’t helped the levee problem to prevent flooding of California. Filling sand bags would be a great community project to get more stimulus money to the naked apes.
Those dirt piles the Chinese made 100 years ago that need to be replace would not only meet the community service requirement for more school money, but add Mexicans and dumb White hippies all using sacks with sand this time, would meet the ethnic improvement requirement.

Watch when your school trys to cover up an attempted murderer (minority) in a reverse racial attempted murder against a whitie, because that would be a blemish in the ethnic racial improvement requirement which in my opinion will lead to more slaughtering of whities a growing minority from Obama lip service, yet with no legal civil rights protection. I suggest everyone learn a foreign language, dye hair, I’m considering botox to put a bump on my nose and start wearing a burka. A tongue piece that appears my tongue was cut out for saying the word sex, will get me out of learning any foreign language. I will just wave my arms.

Aw, c’mon. If there’s no pics, it didn’t happen.
