CAIR Calls 9/11 Coloring Book ‘Dangerous’

From an outraged Agence France-Presse:

9/11 coloring book criticized for depiction of Muslims

CHICAGO — A coloring book aimed at teaching children about the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 has generated controversy for its depiction of Muslims and interpretation of the events.

"It’s disgusting," said Dawud Walid, director of the Michigan branch of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, who has lead the charge against what he sees as an irresponsible and dangerous book.

Just out of curiosity, do you think CAIR has ever denounced any jihadist propaganda as "irresponsible and dangerous"? We would be interested in seeing some examples.

Every mention or depiction of Muslims or Islam in the book titled "We shall never forget 9/11", is accompanied by the word "terrorist" or "extremist"

From what we little we have seen, this is not true. Besides, even if it is true, were not all of the Muslims who were involved in the 9/11 attacks terrorists and extremists?

[A]nd there are no counterbalancing images or references to the Muslims who were killed in the attacks or were among the first responders searching for survivors, Walid said Tuesday

Just like how every time the attack on Pearl Harbor is mentioned, it is always balanced by depictions of all of the Japanese in Hawaii who were among the victims and the ‘first responders.’

Nor does the book mention that the vast majority of Muslims in the United States and around the world condemn terrorism, he added.

That’s probably because the book seeks to give a factual accounting of the events.

"It’s silly to think that a young person who colors that book who has no contact with Muslims would come away with anything but fear of Muslims and thinking that Muslims are bad people," Walid told AFP.

Perhaps Muslim extremists need to work on their image a little more. Of course CAIR is doing their best in that regard.

Really Big Coloring Books publisher Wayne Bell insists that the book is an honest portrayal of events. "We tell this truth and tell it in black in white," Bell said in a telephone interview from his St. Louis, Missouri office.

"This book is about 19 evil terrorists who murdered 3,000 people," he said. "It just so happens that the people who flew those planes into the buildings were radical Muslim jihadists." …

Well, it didn’t just happen they are Muslim jihadists.

Subtitled "The Kids’ Book of Freedom," the book teaches children that "freedom-hating radical Islamic Muslim Extremists" attacked America because they "hate the American way of life because we are FREE."

You can’t put it any plainer than that.

Walid said this overly simplistic and populist interpretation of events is simply not true.

He pointed to statements made by Osama bin Laden and the conclusions of the US congressional 9/11 commission which found the attacks were rooted in a belief that American foreign policy and its ‘immoral’ culture are at war with Islam and Muslim countries.

That sounds like a distinction without a difference if there ever was one. Our freedoms are exactly what Muslim extremists consider to be our "immoral culture." And CAIR knows that all too well.

What CAIR really objects to is that some kids are hearing the plain truth about 9/11. But of course freedom of speech is another part of our "immoral culture" that they despise.

The cartoon of bin Laden hiding behind his wife as he is shot by a Navy SEAL is also not a true depiction of events, Walid noted.

He was Mr. Walid there? Perhaps some of his friends were? (Maybe he should be questioned.)

Bell dismissed the criticism as an attempt to exploit an "innocent book" to promote a political agenda.

CAIR? "Promote a political agenda"? Never!

The controversy has had a positive impact: all the headlines have spurred sales.

Why is Walid so concerned about how bin Laden is depicted in a coloring book?

“The cartoon of bin Laden hiding behind his wife as he is shot by a Navy SEAL is also not a true depiction of events, Walid noted.”

Is he more sympathetic with Muslim terrorists than he lets on? Does he consider bin Laden an example of a typical Muslim who is being falsely depicted and maligned in the coloring book?

On another note, we have conclusive proof that Bin Laden is really dead. It has just recently been revealed that he has registered to vote in Chicago for the 2012 presidential elections.

If this book sticks a burr under CAIR’s saddle, color me amused.

I couldn’t be more proud being from the same town as the publisher Mr. Bell. Finally, something to feel good about. I need to see if Mr. Bell might be hiring for some office help, I could really be happy working there.

  4. Right of the People says:

I’m excited about this. When will we see the Barry the Bungler series with all of the supporting characters like Bite Me Joe and Tax Cheat Timmy and the rest of the Obummer gang?

  5. GetBackJack says:

Mawlana Abul Alla Mawdudi, the founder of Pakistan’s fundamentalist movement, is on record:

“Islam is not a normal religion like the other religions in the world, and Muslim nations are not like normal nations. Muslim nations are very special because they have a command from Allah to rule the entire world and to be over every nation in the world. Islam is a revolutionary faith that comes to destroy any government made by man. Islam doesn’t look for a nation to be in better condition than another nation. Islam doesn’t care about land or who owns the land. The goal of Islam is to rule the entire world and submit all of mankind to the faith of Islam. Any nation or power in this world that tries to get in the way of that goal Islam will fight and destroy. In order for Islam to fulfill that goal, Islam can use every power available every way it can be used to bring worldwide revolution. This is jihad. You will lose, We will win.”

When you fight with disbelievers, do not retreat. Those who do will go to hell (8:15-16); those that the Muslims killed were not really killed by them. It was Allah who did the killing (8:17); Fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is for Allah (8:39); and, don’t let the disbelievers think they can escape. They are your enemy and the enemy of Allah (8:59-60).

Fight them on until there is no more persecution. And the religion becomes Allah’s. But if they cease, Let there be no hostility except to those who practice oppression (2:190-3)

Therefore let those fight in the way of Allah, who sell this world’s life for the hereafter; and whoever fights in the way of Allah, then be he slain or be he victorious, We shall grant him a mighty reward (4:74).

And when the sacred months are passed, kill those who join other gods with God wherever ye shall find them; and seize them, besiege them, and lay wait for them with every kind of ambush: but if they shall convert, and observe prayer, and pay the obligatory alms, then let them go their way, for God is gracious, merciful (9:5)

Thou seest many of them making friends with those who disbelieve. Surely ill for them is that which they themselves send on before them (5:80).

Islam is a presence in Europe that uses violence to influence both Muslims and non-Muslims. In France, radical Islam is being blamed for violence in hospitals. Physicians have been assaulted by men for “touching” Muslim women during the course of examinations and Muslim men are demanding “virginity certificates” for young girls. Muslims are attacking police in Muslim neighborhoods with stones and Molotov cocktails. For his efforts in documenting the nature of Muslim violence against Muslim women, Theo Van Gogh paid with his life. Upon completion of the 10 minute film, Van Gogh received death threats. On Nov. 2, 2004, the threats were carried out by a Muslim, filled with visions of jihad and his holy duty to his god. In 2006, riots broke out across the Muslim world in response to cartoons depicting Mohammed published in a Danish newspaper. People died. Over cartoons. In an effort to appease Muslims, much has been done by non-Muslims in the West to present an air of tolerance, which is just what Muslims want. Tolerance is a step towards acceptance, like getting used to the idea of rats in the basement. Once Islam becomes an accepted nuisance, there will be less opposition to conversion. And in largely secular Europe, Islam might well fill a void and experience little real opposition compared to the United States.

Islam is not a religion, It is a Theocracy whose foundational tenets require it’s adherents to do everything possible to tear down the government of whatever nation is not Islamic and convert it to Islam.

The “comic book” doesn’t go far enough.

  6. Tater Salad says:

Click on Dawud Walid’s websites and give him a piece of your mind. This moron hides behind the lies he tells America to advance Islam and Sharia Law.

  7. canary says:

Walid: Also besides depicting of Bin Laden and his wife who was wearing niqab, the other depictions of Muslims consist of two ominous looking men with their heads and faces covered with kuffiyahs, a common terrorist motif in the West.

Walid is confusing. CAIR a declared terrorist organization by the FBI in the U.S. funneled money to Palestines whose national symbol is the “kuffiyahis”.

I would hope the coloring books shows muslim terrorists dress like everyday people too, and opening and dabbling in the Koran can turn into a dangerous thing.

  8. Mithrandir says:

Popular lies are better than unpopular truths.

The book only portrays muslims are terrorists, because they are.

And only portrays the 911 terrorists as muslims because they were.

~It’s like the black leaders complaining that blacks are 14% of the population but are 60%+ of the prison population. [well, who do you THINK deserves the shame for these facts?]

–get your people straight, and you won’t have to complain about these problems you dummies!

  9. sticks says:

They hate the American way of life because we are free. Exactly correct, Islam means submition and a Muslim is one who submits. Their basic philosophy is 180 degrees opposite of American Christian thinking. I know that not everyone in America is Christian yet there is no denying that Christianity had a profound impact on the beggining of our country. Islam has no real concept of individual rights and while Christians have not allways done well in this respect either they did become involved in powerful movements to give women respect and rights and also to end slavery, where are the great Muslim movements to do these things?
