California Dems Want To End Free Parking

From the Los Angeles Times:

State lawmakers seek to end free parking

By Patrick McGreevy in Sacramento

January 29, 2010

State lawmakers are taking aim at what some of them see as a menace to California’s environment: free parking.

There is too much of it, the legislators say, and it encourages people to drive instead of taking the bus, walking or riding a bike.

All that motoring is contributing to traffic jams and pollution, according to state Sen. Alan Lowenthal (D-Long Beach), and on Thursday he won Senate approval of a proposal he hopes will prompt cities and businesses to reduce the availability of free parking.

"Free parking has significant social, economic and environmental costs," Lowenthal said. "It increases congestion and greenhouse gas emissions.’’

The bill, supported by the Natural Resources Defense Council and the Sierra Club, provides financial incentives for cities and counties to stop providing free parking on the street and at government offices and to reduce the amount they require businesses to provide.

"It’s nice that we’ve been treated to this luxury," Lowenthal said. "The problem with free parking is it’s not free.’’

Mind you, this is not a scheme to raise money. This is seen as a way to protect the environment.

Never mind that California is financially bankrupt, that it is facing unprecedented debt.

These Democrat state legislators want to use taxpayer money to provide “financial incentives for cities and counties to stop providing free parking.”

If anyone who votes for this insane bill gets re-elected, Californians deserve their fate.

(Thanks to BillK for the heads up.)

    Yeah, this will help California.

Of course I’m sure Nancy will push it nationwide.

Republicans opposed the measure, saying the Legislature should not be meddling in how much people pay to park. …

Nice way of killing even more businesses and of course further destroying the business climate in California in general.

The article continues by naming the usual suspects:

Of course it’s not “free” – it’s provided by businesses to encourage people to patronize their businesses.

If two retailers exist and one offers free parking and one doesn’t, which will people patronize?

But that’s right, vehicles are evil.

Of course we’ll also need subsidized parking for the poor…

(Note also that California lawmakers enjoy free parking at the Capitol in Sacramento as well as at their closest airport, in this case LAX and/or Burbank…)

Let’s protect the environment by removing the Democrats, with prejudice, and then making it impossible for marxists to ever weasle their way into power again.

You know, it really is a test of wills between a tiny percentage of arrogant, willful, self-indulgent, elitist statists (supported of course by the people they have bought off), and the clear majority of the country.

We simply have to beat the shit out of them until they go back into their enclaves to lick their wounds for a few decades.

We should seriously consider shutting down all of the Ivy League Universties after we have taken power back. Plots to destroy the country are not free speech. Criminal actions to take away freedom from the people are not legitimate expressions of dissent.

Remember this from last April?… Poor woman parked in her own driveway and got a ticket for parking there. Driveways are now a no parking zone In the land of Liberal Oz…

Here’s hoping Nancy and her minions never hear about this…I’m sure it would sound like a great idea to them.

Of course Nancy probably is preoccupied at the moment, trying to get over the wall, Pole Vaulting, and parachuting, to get that Health Care Bill through.

Okay California dims .. show us the way.

No more cars or trucks. Ya’ can’t park anywhere for free – get rid of ’em. Besides, they’re bad for the environment, cause global warming, and deplete natural resources.

Use one – AND ONLY ONE – sheet of toilet paper at any one setting.

Get rid of your planes of any size or shape. They’re bad, too! Yes – you too, Travolta.

Use “Go to Meeting” more. All of you. Pelosi included.

Trim your energy consumption (lights, A/C, furnace, refrigerator, etc) by cutting off your power after the dinner hour.

Sponge bathe once a week – you ain’t going anywhere anyway.

More “energy savings” ideas for these nitwits, S&L’rs????

Every problem can be solved by a new tax, fee, fine or levy. Funny how that works.

When California Legislators start taking the bus to Sacramento from their respective hometowns, and then take the city bus to Sessions …. then I’ll start to pay attention.

Whenever democraps screw the middle class and poor, their accomplices in the lamestream media use the term ‘government legislators’, or the name of the legislative body itself, and rarely if ever mention (1) the legislators producing the vile legislation are DEMOCRAPS; and (2) that republicans oppose the democraps vile legislation. This is akin to democrap scandals where their buddies in the media trumpet everyone does it and it doesn’t matter or isn’t related to their official duties. Whereas if a republican looks at someone cross eyed, they portray him/her as an ax murderer who should be voted out of office and imprisoned for life.
