Carney Attacks Press For Wanting WH Plan

From the Politico:

Carney turns tables, mocks press

By JULIE MASON | 07/26/11

… Newly minted Fox News reporter Ed Henry wondered at the daily briefing what the point of Monday’s national address was, given the lack of a specific Obama plan for closing the deal.

White House press secretary Jay Carney called demands for more detail, "talking points issued by the Republican Party," adding, "I get that, OK?"

Amid Henry’s protestations that the talking point crack was unfair, Carney continued:

"He explained a lot of the detail," Carney said. "The president stood before you — I can’t remember if you were here Friday night. Some of you weren’t, because you cut out early, but a lot of you were."

Responded members of the press: "Ooooooohhhh!"

"We have shown a lot of leg on what we were proposing," Carney said.

Isn’t that kind of a ‘sexist’ remark from a White House spokesperson?

Pressed for more details — something on paper? Some numbers? Carney grew scornful.

"I mean, look, you need something printed for you, you can’t write it down?" he said. "There is ample detail."

Reminded that Obama on Friday also promised to walk reporters through the process, saying, "We’ll go through all the paper" but then there was no paper, Carney told the press to grow up:

"Most of you are veteran Washington reporters," Carney said. "You know how this process works: that if you — that when you put forward a position, it becomes highly — on difficult issues before a compromise is reached, it becomes charged politically and your chances of acting getting an agreement diminish significantly. That’s how it works. You know that’s how it works."

"You don’t? Well you should," he said. "Others do."

We’re not quite sure we would describe it as Mr. Carney mocking the press. It seems to us that he is acting like what Mark Halperin might call, ‘an Obama.’

But the nerve of the press wanting to see something written down. After all, if something is written down, it’s harder to lie about it. Heck, the CBO might even try to score it.

Still, to be fair, the White House press corps is used to being given administration handouts and press releases, which they turn around and publish as news.

Doesn’t Mr. Carney know how the process works?

    Exactly, Steve.

This man-child thinks he can follow the same formula from the 1994 budget showdown between Clinton and Congress with the same results. How typical of their bankrupt well of ideas. Always going back to the tired socialist answers of the past. But wait! Green technology can balance the budget, right? When we’re all working as solar-panel installers and recycling pick-up trashmen, we can pat ourselves on the backs on the way to the next Tom Hanks movie.

    Glorious revolution!

long time. I hope things have picked up for you, since they haven’t for the country.

    • Howard Roark says:

      Thank-you, PR.

Things have picked up only because I picked myself up out of the disaster that was south Florida. After researching the entire country for many months for the place with the lowest unemployment, my fiance (now wife) and I moved across the nation without anything (job, friend, etc) waiting on us as we arrived in this midwest town. She had a lot of fears, but stuck with me as we leapt out on a wing and a prayer. Of course, I had some fears, also. It took all of what little funds we had to make this move into the unknown.

We were in a weekly-rental type hotel for 4 days when I got an interview, then a job offer (full-time, in my field [IT]) two days later; and we found a little duplex to rent after 7 days. This was a little over a year ago. The little lady struggled to find full-time work (used temp agency for the past year), but just got a full-time job with a company she loves. We are truly blessed and thank God often for helping us through it all.

As they say, God helps those who help themselves.

I remember that you were contemplating leaving Florida after long struggles and also getting hitched. Of course, you could have waited for Obamy to give you a house and car lie 20 million other Americans are doing.

You may not be in DC-level clover yet, but it sounds like an good example of indiviual responsiblity triumphing over adversity to me.

Real American story right there, despite whatever Delusional Harry says.

Welcome back to the fray HR, it’s great to hear from you.

S&L is buzzing. Thank you all for hanging with Steve. He does so much and advertises none.

    • Steve says:

Wow. What a real life profile in courage, HK. We salute you.

    • Howard Roark says:

Thank-you, Steve, et al. That means a lot, and I appreciate it.

Ridicule, accusations of stupidity, or insanity are the last refuge of the Ruling Class. They believe they are superior and entitled to their parasitic positions, as is their progeny and their relatives. These people put George III and the the British aristocracy in the shade.

This goes for the GOP also, sad to say. Thank God for the Tea Party, or we wouldn’t even be discussing the national debt and federal deficit.

  3. hercjm says:

Beginning at the top, I read the S&L headline, then the original Politico headline. Until I hit his name in the second paragraph of the article, I didn’t realize that I had been reading “Carney” as “Canary”.

    Seems appropriate.

For Howard Roark: Bravo! When the going gets tough, those who are tough get going. In Washington, reputation is wholly manufactured. Only in the real world is it based on character.

  7. Melly says:

And I thought Gibbs was pompous. Carney, Axelrod, Daly, etc….arrogant, elitist, delusional tentacles of the Obama cephalopod mollusc. I so miss Tony Snow, God bless him.

  8. Astravogel says:

Why are they bothering this poor man?
Just stay at the office and let them send

  9. canary says:

“You should go on the air and tell your viewers there’s nothing to worry about. That is one approach.” said Jay Carney at the end of the video.

Carney quoted Ronald Reagan. More evidence Obama’s handlers are stealing Reagan’s speeches, but
Obama’s recent unexpected speech was nothing Reagan would have done or said.

So, no telling how accurate Carney’s past reporting has been, when he writes down what he thinks he heard.

  10. Nora says:

As far as I’m concerned, he is barely better than Gibbs. But only in the looks department. I could never focus on what Gibbs was saying as I was always too distracted thinking, ‘who on Earth would have sex with that man?” but I digress, Carney is no different than the rest of these d-bags. Same [excrement], different day.

  11. tranquil.night says:

Yeah, MBM, stop attacking Obama, seriously. Racists. The GoP is like totally fracturing because John Boehner can’t admit he’s made mistake upon mistake upon mistake, and can’t admit that he’s about to make another one. He’s too worried about consolidating his caucus while his buddies in the Establishment go out and parrot ol’ Boehner Wormtongue’s message, while others just plain out rip us without basis.

This isn’t about politics to us, only to you in the Ruling Class who can’t get away from it. Everything is identity politics, it’s all you know and it’s how you mask yourself as a crony just as Cronyism infected the Republican Northeastern Industrialists following the Civil War. This deal reeks substantively and politically. So you breach our ethic of Common Decency, call us little people, tell us to shut up, smile and eat it? I see you. It’s disgusting.

Nah, the Liberal’s media wasn’t scaring us anymore, so they begged their Ruling Class Republican media friends, the Haradrim, to help them again, which they did, again.

They don’t think we see it? That arrogance would be amusing if it weren’t literally the entire Culture of the people who we entrust to watch over our national affairs and help facilitate the Democratic and legislative process.. not govern over us with all these media machine’s dedicated solely to their lobbying groups interests.

The Establishment leadership has my vote of no confidence because they simply ignore us, over and over, no matter how much through this debate we showed them to be wrong and have no reason to fear.

They still don’t want to hear the facts. No default. No immediate downgrade. Reid says Boehner’s bill is DoA. Pelosi is rallying against it, they say it’ll have less Democrat support than CCB. Think about that: they say it has less bipartisan support than CCB and yet it is the one that is politically viable whereas CCB is dead, dead, done? Error: Flaw in Logic.

We had a plan and a front that we had rallied around because the leadership was subverting our attempts to get information out of them during the 2 months of dungeon negotiations. I literally described it as a new front and attached a Historical analogy.

This plan was a compromise to the demand to increase the debt ceiling. That demand was a false deadline to begin with, and we knew it, because he had declared such a deadline before, the media had hyped it, and when no one bought the fearmongering, we passed the date quietly and the media did not say a word.. but Steve did. Nevertheless, because we knew if we just sat on our ass that John Boehner was never seriously going to fight for fiscal Conservatism but just pretend to, we got together and came up with a plan. Everyone keeps saying now that we’re at this point “So what would you do wingnuts. What’s your compromise huh HUH!” It’s Cut, Cap, and Balance.

The Democrat Party does not want to engage in the Democratic Process because they know they’ll lose the debate in the arena of ideas. That’s all we’ve been trying to tell our leadership, but they don’t want to hear it because I’m convinced they’re in on the racket. So I don’t want to deal with either of them; I want them taken down from power because they can’t respect the office.

Our plan was developed under the due process of the House with fair and transparent debate. It is not radical, it was polled to have two-thirds the support of the American People, information which was buried in the report by the very people who conducted it. The moment this became known, Senator Reid forced the bill to a table vote which he rammed through without letting it come to debate. It is not a dead plan as our Leadership lies. It is tabled and in limbo.

Forget the Democrats for a moment.

Our leadership has, from three angles – at the Senate level, at the bipartisan Gang of Six level, and at the House leadership level – taken every opportunity to assault us with each new alternative deal. These deals were brokered suddenly and in secret, presented at maximum political opportunity to undercut momentum for Cut, Cap, and Balance, without ever addressing the Tea Party’s central premise as to why they were “Holding the Line” on it. When our wizards immediately analyzed and rejected as outright frauds (the earlier ones like the McConnell and Go6 options blatantly so) each one of their subsequent compromise plan, they quickly changed their stripes, updated their political image with new ideas on how to deceive us while making it sound like they were with us, and then charged at our wall again.

Now they’re downright furious with us.

You know why? Because they are indicted, and it’s on the open record to be reviewed and for the failure analysis to provide solid conclusions on how to proceed. And they know they can’t stop that ultimately. The more they try, the faster their small little bubble worlds floating around in the Universe of LIes will deflate around them.

“The thinking, I assume, is that if we hit the ceiling and the economy tanks, the left will have a panic attack and agree to pass CCB simply because it’s the only thing, supposedly, that can pass the House.” – Chumpundit

No the thinking is that the Economy isn’t going to tank because we aren’t going to have any critical problems paying our bills. August 2nd is probably not even the real ceiling. You are parroting fearmongers, and you continue to do a disservice to the reputation of the site for which you write.

The thinking is that we’re going to expose them until their own voters realize how maniacally out of touch they are and bring political pressure on them to bare until they deal with us openly and legitimately. If they don’t it’s on them because they control 2/3 of government, but 2/3 of the people support our plan. Wall Street knows we’re not going to default. It’s a Big Lie. If anything crashes the market, it will be some subversive like it was the 2008 crisis or last year’s “flash crash.” Trading will be suspended, we will call on the SEC to investigate (because Dodd/Frank was suppose to fix all this right? “No more ups and sudden downs in the market?”). The world will go on.

Whereas you, noob pundit, don’t seem to concern yourself with anything but politics. Strange how even though writing on it is your job, you seem to be completely devoid of this basic journalistic ethic of an adherence to facts, forget morality, because we all know you’re an athiest. You’re always sure to make that very clear.

You know what else is strange? Commenting on what you think other people’s thinking is when you very clearly don’t. Actually we’ll just call that embarassing. For you.

It’s kind of kookish actually. What – you think you can just guess what’s in people’s minds without evidence? Pretty arrogant of you.

    • tranquil.night says:

I’m going to rewrite this because it’s essential:

      – The Democrats hold 2/3 of the State.

      – Our plan holds the approval of 2/3 of the public will.

To whose narrative are the Republican leadership adhering?

    • tranquil.night says:

This battle could be over with 3 Democrat Senators who know that they are toast in 2012 at this point who could be persuaded to leave behind the old and busted and embrace the new and beautiful.

We are not going to demand instant implosion of the Social Welfare State. God as my witness we are trying to fulfill its promises – save it – and reform it so that the opportunity for personal security and prosperity is more accessible for everyone who wouldn’t abuse it.
