Carney: ‘Benghazi Happened A Long Time Ago’

From the Weekly Standard:

Carney: ‘Benghazi Happened a Long Time Ago’

By DANIEL HALPER | May 1, 2013

White House spokesman Jay Carney said in response to a question about the September 11, 2012 Benghazi terror attack that it "happened a long time ago."

"Let’s be clear," said Carney. "Benghazi happened a long time ago. We are unaware of any agency blocking an employee who would like to appear before Congress to provide information related to Benghazi."

The question was about reports that Benghazi whistleblowers are being prevented from coming forward.

Here is my transcription of the pertinent quotes:

CARNEY: "Benghazi happened a long time ago… and we’re not aware of any agency that has blocked an employee who would like to appear before Congress. And as, as you noted, both the State Department and the Department of Defense have made clear that they are not aware of any request for a security clearance for a private attorney having been made in connection with the Benghazi investigation.

So, what you have is an attorney saying that she represents somebody, claiming that she’s not getting the security clearance, and yet the agencies involved have no information about this at all.

Which falls into the broader story here, which is, these allegations are part of an unfortunate pattern of spreading misinformation…"

Of course, Benghazi is a textbook case of the Obama’s administration spreading of mis-information. Susan Rice, Hillary Clinton, Obama and the rest of his administration all spread mis-information about Benghazi, starting with (but not ending with) the attack being a protest over a video.

Meanwhile, via Sharyl Atkinsson on Twitter, we have the news that the FBI has finally released (grainy) photos of three suspects in the Benghazi attack, eight months after the attack.

From the FBI:

Seeking Information on Benghazi Attacks

The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation appreciates that the Libyan people and the government of Libya have condemned the September 11, 2012 attacks on U.S. Special Mission personnel and facilities in Benghazi, Libya.

The FBI is now asking Libyans and people around the world for additional information related to the attacks, which resulted in the deaths of four Americans, including the U.S. ambassador to Libya.

We are seeking information about three individuals who were on the grounds of the U.S. Special Mission when it was attacked. These individuals may be able to provide information to help in the investigation.

We need your help to solve this crime. If you have any information, text or e-mail BenghaziTips@ic.fbi.gov or submit information confidentially at https://forms.fbi.gov/benghazi-en.

But, once again, it sure looks like the FBI is only doing even this much because they are being shamed into it.

Mr. Carney, if Benghazi happened a long time ago and you haven’t brought the people who acted against us and our people who failed to act to justice yet, that refects poorly on you.

    En Route Mexico City, Mexico
    11:29 A.M. EDT
MR. CARNEY: Welcome aboard Air Force One as we make our way to Mexico, the first stop on our two-country tour through the region. The President is looking forward to the trip. I think you were thoroughly briefed yesterday by two of our colleagues, but if you have more questions on that trip I will take them. And I will take questions on other issues if you have them.

…We don’t have any further information to share with you.
…And I don’t have specific comments on the alleged role of these individuals.
…I haven’t spoken with him directly about that issue.
    …And it’s my understanding
    …Again, I haven’t spoken with him.
…and I have attempted to put it within the context given the President’s previous statements about the previous ruling.
…I’d say two things. One, I won’t read out private conversations the President may or may not have had.

…I don’t have a specific conversation between the President and any lawmaker on this to read out to you, but we are in contact with all the major players, first of all.

… I’ll have to take the question. I haven’t had that conversation with him.

“Well for a White House Press Release Chief, there appears to be a lot of topics that he ‘has not spoken to the President about’.
I understand the concept of Carney’s job, but his lying is pathetic. He has learned how to lie with a straight face, but he’s still a pathetic liar. Perhaps he should listen to obama more: Now THERE is an accomplished liar. “

The families and survivors must feel double devastated, first Hillary saying only weeks it was in the past; now Carney mimicking Obama’s signature “Let’s be clear” it happened a long time ago.

As far as those intimidated to speak…Evil flourishes when good people do nothing.

“That happened a long time ago” is brilliant, ranks right up there with “What difference does it make?”
One could use this excuse for almost anything, think I’ll try it at work today, should I happen to make a mistake. After all, depending on your perspective, “a long time ago” could be minutes…words have no meaning…
How we got this far saddens me, these people are so poorly equipped to lead. God save us.

Think of them all as petulant children. Or that annoying neighbor kid who always has something to say.

They’re in power right now and they know it and to hell with you and everybody else. If you disagree with them, they act like little kids and stamp their little feet and have their tantrums.

It’s quite remarkable when people I consider to be very much my lessers act as if they are superior. That includes all of them because I don’t consider elected officials to be much more than my servants who are supposed to do what the majority decide. I consider appointees deserving of even less status.

They are an elected MINORITY yet they actually believe they are right all of the time. Such lack of humility can only end badly and usually does.

It will catch up to them. The beauty of it is they never see it coming.

  7. yadayada says:

it happened a long time ago in a land far far away.

whistle blowers don’t need security clearance to talk to their senators and representatives (or Hannity or Limbaugh). just start blowing the damn whistle !!!
