Carney: Concerns Over GZ’s Family Are Ridiculous

From the Daily Caller:

‘Ridiculous’: Carney dismisses question about safety of Zimmerman family

By Gabe Finger | July 17, 2013

WASHINGTON — White House Press Secretary Jay Carney dismissed a question Wednesday regarding the safety of George Zimmerman and his parents as “ridiculous.”

Asked by [a Daily Caller intern Gabe Finger] during the daily press briefing whether the president intends to take any action to protect the Zimmermans — in light of the many death threats the family has received — Carney laughed and said, “Well, I think I would refer you to Florida authorities. I’m not aware of that story. But, you know, the president has called for echoing the statements of Trayvon Martin’s family — for calm and reflection in the wake of the verdict. And that continues to be his position. He certainly would oppose any violence.”

ABC News reported Monday that Zimmerman and his parents have remained in hiding since the verdict due to ”an enormous amount of death threats.” Despite the not guilty verdict, Obama released a statement on Sunday calling on the country to honor Trayvon Martin’s memory but made no mention of Zimmerman.

Asked to clarify if Zimmerman’s family members are therefore on their own, Carney responded indignantly. “You can editorialize all you want, and I have no doubt that you will, but that is a ridiculous statement,” he told TheDC. Several reporters in the room laughed…

At least the rest of the (so called) White House Press Corp only laughed at Mr. Finger’s question. The didn’t chase him off the grounds and try to get his credentials revoked, like they did with the Daily Caller’s Neil Munro, when he had the temerity to ask Obama a question in the Rose Garden.

The videos of this exchange between the Daily Caller intern, Gabe Finger (who is a junior in High School) and Carney have gone viral. But most of the comments have missed the very valid point of the question.

The federal government regularly protects people facing death threats. For instance, if he was a famous abortion doctor, you can bet Zimmerman and his family would be getting protection from federal marshals.

Here is just one example, via the archives at Fox News:

Attorney General Directs U.S. Marshals to Protect Abortion Providers After Murder

June 01, 2009

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder dispatched the U.S. Marshals Service to protect "appropriate people and facilities around the nation" in the wake of the murder of late-term abortion provider Dr. George Tiller in Wichita, Kansas on Sunday morning.

U.S. Marshals spokesman Jeff Carter, who confirmed the new security measures, told FOX News, "I can not disclose the subjects of our security efforts as it is the policy of the U.S. Marshals not to comment on the status of any protective detail." …

Many anti-abortion groups condemned the killing of Tiller, a prominent abortion provider who was shot dead at his church in Wichita, Kansas. But they expressed concern that abortion-rights activists would use the occasion to brand the entire anti-abortion movement as extremist…

In other words, Mr. Holder quickly sprang into action just based on a perceived threat to other abortion clinics.

But doesn’t the Zimmerman family warrant protection from their very real threats? Don’t they have any civil rights?

    Yet a $1, 000, 000.00 bounty means nothing.
Would that money be taxpayer money?
    Mr.Holder? Barry? Jesse? Rev. Al?

The Z’man clan should immigrate to Peru, applying there for asylum from political and racial persecution.

Who knows –– the Z’mans may become pioneers for the rest of us, as more and more American refugees follow in their footsteps?

As sad as this may sound, the Zimmerman’s should turn their household into a abortion clininc. The ACLU, and
the NAACP, with the help of “The View” and most democrats. Would render that as sacred ground. At least they would get some security. The left will never stop hounding this man, or his family. The taking of another’s life has no glory. Mr. Zimmerman did’nt seem to relish in it. My heart felt condolence to both families. No one, won.
