MAKES DECISION AFTER LEARNING SHE WASN’T GOING TO BE PICKED AS SENATOR

Caroline Kennedy tonight withdrew her name from consideration to replace Hillary Clinton in the U.S. Senate after learning that Gov. David Paterson wasn’t going to choose her, The Post has learned.

Kennedy’s decision removes the highest-profile name in the ring to step into Clinton’s now-vacant seat, as she departs after getting confirmed today as President Obama’s Secretary of State.

Sources said the reason Paterson had decided not to tap the daughter of John F. Kennedy was her poor performances in media interviews and in in private sessions with various officials.

Aides to Kennedy couldn’t be reached for comment.

Paterson has said he is not yet sure who he will select, but plans to announce his pick by this weekend – and an announcement is expected either Friday or Saturday.

For the first time on Tuesday, shortly after Obama was inaugurated, Paterson acknowledged publicly that he is considering state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo for the slot.

Cuomo, who has soared in public polls over Kennedy in the past two weeks in popularity for the seat, has not said whether he’s interested in the job, but has not tamped down speculation that he’s making a play for it…

Hilarious.

Of course Andrew Cuomo is an even worse choice.

    The story is floating that she dropped out because of her “concern” for Uncle Ted’s health. Yeah, right.

    But not to worry! The Dems have such a “deep bench” (as Gerry Ferraro would say). People like Andrew Cuomo and Carolyn Maloney. ROFL!!

    I am shocked people – come on – she was a shoe in – the only Kennedy without an addiction or arrest record. What is going on in NY? Just because she can’t speak – for shame – the kool-aid drinkers just elected a POTUS who can’t speak – so what kind of excuse is that?

    Once again the hypocrisy of the Dems is on full display – I guess in 2009 even being a womin isn’t enough – if only she’d been a halfrican womin – that would have been the ticket.

    Hillary has to be cackling today.

    It’s no secret that the Clintons were furious with CK after throwing her support to Obama and that Hillary didn’t want “her” Senate seat to go to Caroline.

    I wonder if the Princess was “Arkan-cided.”

    Possible Scenario: A newspaper calls CK to comment on an upcoming scandalous expose. . .an affair? unsavory financial dealings?

    I find it interesting the party of “transparency” has 5 or 6 “reasons”, yet the Princess herself can’t muster up 1 defined one, ala “no comment”

    Inuendo, whispers, reports, etc… yeah you would have made a fine Dem politician.

    IMHO – the fantasy became a reality and someone had her withdraw behind the scenes, noting the mass negativity this mess has caused from Day 1 of the “rumors”.

    While Cuomo and Maloney are front runners, at least according to whispers, naming a black Senator (Carl McCall???) may be the Jan surprise…

    I worked with the McCall campaign in 2002 – and he is actually a pretty decent guy who drove alot of business to the Hudson Valley area, namely when IBM pulled out of a 250,000/sq foot Kingston facility and replaced it with a company/agency that actually grew jobs.

    Somebody’s out to take Princess Caroline down:

    In a stunning revelation, a source close to Gov. David Paterson insisted this afternoon that the governor “had no intention” of picking Caroline Kennedy for New York’s vacant senate seat – because she was “mired” in an issue over taxes, her nanny and possibly her marriage.

    Kennedy was “mired in some potentially embarrassing personal issues,” the source said, citing tax liabilities and worker compensation liabilities connected to the employment of a nanny.

    The source also said the state of her marriage may have presented a problem as well.

    “She has a tax problem that came up in the vetting and a potential nanny issue,” the soruce said. “And reporters are starting to look at her marriage more closely,” the soruce continued, refusing to provide any specifics.

    Gossip columns have reported for more than a year that Kennedy’s marriage to Ed Schlossberg is essentially over, and the gossip site Gawker.com has reported rumors that she’s been linked to New York Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger.

    Kennedy denied any issue over her marriage in an interview with The Post last month. Aides to Kennedy and a Times spokesperson couldn’t immediately be reached.

    Update: The Post has already pulled the paragraph linking the Princess to “Pinch” Sulzberger of the NYT. And, of course, the NYT never mentions anything about marital problems in their reporting of the situation.
