CBS: ‘We Get Stories Wrong, Over and Over Again’

From the Weekly Standard:

CBS Anchor: ‘We Are Getting Big Stories Wrong, Over and Over Again’

"Our house is on fire."

By DANIEL HALPER | May 11, 2013

CBS anchor Scott Pelley said at a speech at Quinnipiac University that journalists "are getting big stories wrong, over and over again."

"Our house is on fire," said Pelley. "These have been a bad few months for journalism," he added. "We’re getting the big stories wrong, over and over again."

Isn’t it hilarious how it’s the news anchors who are always the last to know?

The CBS newsreader was quick to take at least partial blame. "Let me take the first arrow: During our coverage of Newtown, I sat on my set and I reported that Nancy Lanza was a teacher at the school. And that her son had attacked her classroom. It’s a hell of a story, but it was dead wrong. Now, I was the managing editor, I made the decision to go ahead with that and I did, and that’s what I said, and I was absolutely wrong. So let me just take the first arrow here."

Getting such details of a breaking story wrong is the least of the news media’s problems.

And Pelley said the republic relies on the quality of the news business. "Democracies succeed or fail based on their journalism," said Pelley. "America is strong because its journalism is strong. That’s how democracies work. They’re only as good as the quality of the information that the public possesses. And that is where we come in."

And yet the news media are dumbing down the public. In order to make it all the easier for them and their allies to advance their agenda.

Of course, there is also more than just sharing a liberal agenda with the Democrats at work here. The Obama administration has been careful to hire people who are related to people high up in the news business.

As we have previously mentioned, CBS News President, David Rhodes, has a brother named Ben who is Obama’s Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communication, especially concerning the Middle East. (Rhodes even wrote Obama’s infamous Cairo Speech.) And we now know that Rhodes was a key player in revising the Benghazi talking points last September.

But it also turns out, that the President Of ABC News’s sister also works for Obama. Ben Sherwood’s sister, Dr. Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall, is a Special Assistant to Barack Obama. (She is also a specialist on the Middle East.)

Moreover, CNN’s deputy bureau chief, Virginia Moseley, is married to Hillary Clinton’s (former) deputy, Tom Nides. Tom Nides was Hillary’s Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources.

Steve, this article and your comments should be “tabbed” so that every time a reader comes to S&L this is one of the first things the reader sees.

    Keep up the great work.

  2. I got a brother name of Dan. Do you know Stella and Ralph by any chance? Atlanta can’t be all that big …

    Just kidding. Howdy, Dan!

Came here to say, what Scott Pelley is really saying is “You freaking buffoons. I’m the face of all your mistakes! You’re hanging my ass out on the line every time you send me out to project the earnest and sincere and important noises of a top flight news agency and people see me, not you! They think I’m the fool when it’s you trolls in the background screwing me over out here live at Five!</i<.

That’s what Scott Pelley was saying.
