CDC: 1 Out Of 4 US Teen Girls Has A STD

From BBC News:

HPV, which can cause cancer, was found to be the most common STD.

STDs rife among US teenage girls

One in four teenage girls in the United States has a sexually-transmitted disease, a study has indicated.

The study, by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), found an even higher prevalence of STDs among black girls.

Researchers analysed data from a nationally representative sample of 838 US girls aged 14 to 19.

A virus that causes cervical cancer - HPV - was the most common, followed by chlamydia, trichomoniasis and herpes.

The CDC says the study is the first in its kind to examine the prevalence of common sexually transmitted diseases among adolescent girls.

It found that nearly half of the African-American girls surveyed had at least one STD, while the rate was 20% among white and Mexican-American teenagers.

Human papillomavirus, or HPV, affected 18% of the girls surveyed, chlamydia 4%, trichomoniasis 2.5%, and herpes simplex virus 2%. …

What has our liberal establishment wrought?

Is this the Legacy of BUBBA?

Are the Interns in Washington plagued with a higher rate of STD?

Will anyone ask Hillary about this concerning statistic?

Or, if Ms. Rodham thinks American Teens can aquire a STD without having “sexual relations”?

We know Hillary Clinton and Justice Ginsberg believe a Child of 14 (or is it 13 years?), should be able to obtain an abortion without consulting their Parents…

I do not believe this stat for a second. 1 in 4 teens are virgins, so does this mean that 100% of teens who have sex also have STDs?

Maybe this is another case of “give us more funding”.

I would bet that if we took a look closer at the details of the results you would find that the stat may be 1 in 4 teens WHO GET TESTED have STDs, but people who get tested do so for a reason (blister, burning, etc)…

    Details…

…..”Maybe this is another case of “give us more funding”.

This is my thought, also. Front load the data to support the outcome, narrow the sampling, make an outrageous statement, then apply for another grant to underwrite a more in-depth study. Once the truth is in, bury the results in some obscure part of a medical journal or newspaper. A casual look at the topics being funded and researched by the CDC should anger every taxpayer. We get relatively nothing for our money.

    Huh?

Today’s liberalism is a mental decease. Symptoms include rebelling for the sake of rebelling, decadence and narcissism. The correlation between the rise of liberal policies and that of unplanned pregnancies, broken homes, and deceases is ridiculously obvious. Someone once said (I can’t recall the name) that the 60’s brought forth deceases we hadn’t seen since the Dark Ages. Mention abstinence, even amongst children, and a liberal will accuse you of being unrealistic. But all their teen pregnancy and contraception programs have led to higher rates of these occurring. Not only have these results not discouraged them but they are pushing the envelope further by going after even younger aged children. Before they’re even sexually mature kids are being taught about everything from condoms to anal sex. But if you give a kid a condom, you’re saying it’s okay to have sex. Of course the rate of STDs and pregnancies will go up then.

Liberals don’t like facts and hate discussions about abstinence, but STDs are S=sexually transmitted deceases. Teaching abstinence for children and monogamy for married couples would definitely make the biggest impact to reduce the spread of decease. But in the liberal world people are animals and love is biology. We’re all as helpless as a spawning salmon and bad decisions are unavoidable. And so, it’s perfectly reasonable to make the rest of us pay/subsidize their deviant behaviors.
Some articles on the matter here:

For about three years I did work for labs that researched vaccines for STDs. The stats in this BBC article are actually tame compared to long range forecast (understanding that Herpes has many forms and some are just a sore on the lip while others are lifelong transmittable infections). But one of the most disturbing things I ever learned while working there was of the phenomena called “Bug Chasing”; homosexual men intentionally infecting themselves with HIV because they find it erotic. Rolling Stone Magazine did an article on the subject and liberals weren’t very happy about that.

All that said let me make one personal point. I wasn’t born Buddha and certainly wasn’t abstinent in my youth. But my family was broken up by the time I was 11 years old. I was lucky enough to survive and learn better things than a liberal welfare society had to offer. I witnessed many times over the consequences of irresponsible living.

Sorry for the misspelling of “disease” everyone. At least I was consistent throughout.

    GnB;…”Sorry for the misspelling …”

I’ll bet some of these people will become “diseased” as a result of these “deceases”! :-)

It goes to show you can’t rush something if you want it to have worth. I just hit “correct all” with my spell check and posted. It is pretty hard to take it serious as it is. Maybe SG will be so kind and trash it for me :)

    GnB; All in good fun. I try not to take myself too seriously, and hope others realize and appreciate it when my slightly twisted sense (or is that since?) of humor surges to the fore. :-}

Holly Cow, Has anyone mentioned this to the Governor of New York? He’ll probably get right on it, set up a study to see what can be done to reduce these numbers. I’m sure he’ll be willing to put some big bucks up to find out what causes this.
    Not!

    pagar,

All he cares about is how they charge.

Am I the only one surprised that the left has not yet defined diseases down?

For example, if 18% of teens now have HPV, is HPV really a “disease” anymore or just “normal”?

That may certainly be their next tactic; all HPV will be is a “virginity test” as if you’ve had sex, you must have HPV.

Is it any wonder the left has been pushing the HPV “vaccine” so heavily, mandating its use in many states.

(Though, quite frankly, with an infection rate that high, there is a good argument to be made for having your daughter receive it, just as is the case with any other prophylactic (ha!) vaccination. Even if your daughter is a “good girl,” there’s always that “one time” or, frankly, rape, and given HPV is a big factor in cervical cancer…

When does it become less of a moral issue and more of a public health issue?)

The purpose of this article is to promote the HPV vaccine. The truth is that something close to 100% of all sexually active females will have one strain or another of HPV. Some strains cause cervical cancer, some strains cause warts, most strains cause no symptoms at all and most can not be easily tested for in females and none can be tested for in males.

If you remove HPV from the equation, STD rates are pretty much as they always have been. The difference between these stats and those in the past is that HPV was never included in the past. Remember, if you have NO symptoms and test negative for everything, that is your primary indication that you probably have HPV.
