Census: Hispanic Poverty Rate Is 28% Higher

From Fox News Latino:

Latino Poverty Rate Climbs to 28%

November 14, 2012

While Latinos are gaining in political clout, they are also falling down the economic ladder, new Census numbers show.

Latinos poverty rates climbed to 28 percent after the census reconfigured its algorithm to take into account medical costs and government programs. The Hispanic poverty level rose after the government took into account safety-net programs such as food stamps and housing, which have lower participation among immigrants and non-English speakers.

Overall, the ranks of America’s poor edged up last year to a high of 49.7 million, based on the new census measure.

The truly disgusting thing here is that this is not bad news for Democrats. In fact, it is good news. They want Hispanics and everyone else to be under their thumb. They want and need as many people as possible in poverty, and dependent on the government for survival.

The numbers released Wednesday by the Census Bureau are part of a newly developed supplemental poverty measure.

Would it be cynical to question the timing of this? Why didn’t any of this come out before the elections?

Devised a year ago, this measure provides a fuller picture of poverty that the government believes can be used to assess safety-net programs by factoring in living expenses and taxpayer-provided benefits that the official formula leaves out.

Based on the revised formula, the number of poor people exceeded the 49 million, or 16 percent of the population, who were living below the poverty line in 2010…

The revised poverty rate of 16.1 percent also is higher than the record 46.2 million, or 15 percent, that the government’s official estimate reported in September…

If a Republican President was running for re-election, these numbers would have come out before election day.

The portrait of poverty broken down by state notably changed. California tops the list, hurt by high housing costs, large numbers of immigrants as well as less generous tax credits and food stamp programs to buoy low-income families. It is followed by the District of Columbia, Arizona, Florida and Georgia…

But we thought immigrants were a boon to the economy? Mayor Bloomberg says they are the only thing that will save us.

Broken down by group, poverty was disproportionately affecting people 65 and older — about 15.1 percent, or nearly double the 8.7 percent rate calculated under the official formula…

Working-age adults ages 18-64 saw an increase in poverty from 13.7 percent to 15.5 percent..

Hispanics and Asians also saw much higher rates of poverty, 28 percent and 16.9 percent, respectively, compared with rates of 25.4 percent and 12.3 percent under the official formula…

And yet they voted for Obama in record numbers.

Well, Hispanics. I guess it’s now obvious why the countries you fled to get here are in such a mess.

You can’t even act in your own best interest.

Because if you think thePoverty Levels are bad now …. go here (sorry, it’s in English) and see your future as EVERYONE gets laid off.

    Karma.

But look on the bright side. By pulverizing the American economy, Nerobama has managed to control illegal immigration better than Bush.

I wonder if they decide to go back to their third world sh*tholes if they’ll let them back in?

Except for the part where 800,000 illegals will be given work permits by executive order. But they were already here mooching.

According to the article, poverty is disproportionately affecting people who are 65 and older, as well as those who are 18-64. It seems that poverty is “disproportionately” affecting everybody.

How is it possible that California has “less generous food stamp programs?” California is run by liberals and liberals will be first to tell you that Republicans want to starve people in the street.

Hispanics are paid in cash. They pay rent in cash. Not unusual to see brand new refrigerators and the children have all the perks games, dvds, etc. Now it’s possible this is all stolen goods. And the children constantly get their things stolen, but end up just getting another gadget. Brand clothes.
The best school perks. The money goes to these areas.

And with the lead EPA regulations so many are getting to moving into new bigger homes and neighborhoods.

They lead the lines in the ER rooms. Children jumping and leaping around playing, on their wait to see a doctor for their emergency. The older teens on their cells talking about what they will be doing after leaving the ER. So, they are pretty well taken care of.

And I am not making fun of people and their weight, simply stating an honest observation, there are few that are not overweight.
