Latest Version: First Shot Missed Bin Laden

From a surprisingly dogged Reuters:

Bin Laden, two others didn’t fire on SEALs: sources

By Mark Hosenball Thu May 5, 2011

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Only one of four principal targets shot dead by U.S. commandos in the raid which killed Osama bin Laden was involved in any hostile fire, a person familiar with the latest U.S. government reporting on the raid told Reuters on Thursday.

The account of Monday’s daring 40-minute raid has new descriptions of the event, including that Navy SEALs shot an occupant of the compound who they thought was armed, but apparently was not.

It confirms that bin Laden was not armed when he was shot dead, nor are there indications that he directly threatened his attackers, according to the first source and a second U.S. government source who is familiar with briefings on the raid…

Here is a chronological version of what is now said to have happened on Monday when the SEAL team raided bin Laden’s hide-out in Abbotabad, Pakistan:

A SEAL squad moved in darkness on the guest house, one of two dwellings inside the walls of bin Laden’s compound. They were met with hostile fire. As they moved in, they shot a man who was in the guest house.

Apparently, this is the only man who fired at them.

He turned out to be Abu Ahmed Al-Kuwaiti, the al Qaeda courier whose activities the CIA and other U.S. intelligence agencies had been investigating for years and who they believed would lead them to bin Laden.

After shooting al-Kuwaiti, the two sources familiar with official accounts said, U.S. commandos moved onto the compound’s three-story main residence. As they entered the house, they saw a man with his hands behind his back. Fearing that the man might be holding a weapon behind him, the commandos shot him dead.

It turned out that the man, who was the brother of Abu Ahmed al Kuwaiti and another suspected al Qaeda courier, was not holding a weapon, according to the two sources familiar with official accounts. However, the attackers did subsequently find weapons near the second man’s body, the sources said.

Is this the man who was photographed with a green water pistol by his head?

After killing the second courier, commandos started climbing the stairs to the house’s upper floors. As they climbed, a man charged down the stairs at them, and was shot dead. U.S. authorities now believe that he was Osama bin Laden’s son.

As commandos proceeded up the stairs, the sources said, they saw a person they believed was bin Laden either poke his head out of a door or over a balcony. One of the sources said that the attackers took at least one shot at the person, who then retreated back inside the room he had come from.

"At least one shot." This is bad PR for the SEALs, to miss at such close range.

The U.S. commandos proceeded to the top floor and into the room where the man had retreated. While entering the room, they were rushed by a woman. The woman, now believed to be one of bin Laden’s wives, was shot in the leg.

After shooting her, the commandos pushed her to the side. Precisely what bin Laden then did, and what his reaction was when the commandos entered and shot his wife, is unclear.

Isn’t it peculiar that such a seemingly detailed account would decide to skip over the most controversial part by just saying what Bin Laden did "is unclear"?

Still, it is hard to believe that if he had weapons ‘within arm’s reach’ he wouldn’t have picked them up. Especially, after having just been shot at.

But the people familiar with official accounts said the attackers did not wait for much of a reaction, and almost immediately shot the al Qaeda leader dead.

"Almost immediately."

Isn’t it amazing – almost unbelievable – that Obummer, the Sophomore-in-Chief, and his minions CAN’T DO ANYTHING WELL!

  2. Rusty Shackleford says:

It becomes immediately obvious to even the most casual observer that the story is slanted to paint the SEALs in a negative light. From stating that bin Laden was some sort of innocent in the whole thing to calling the SEALs “attackers”, it’s slanted to cause the reader to take the side of the terrorists. Shooting the daughter and “pushing her aside” implies a callous disregard for people but the fact remains that in here lived a very, very bad man who is the mastermind and motivation for the killing of truly innocent people in the name of islam and…as has been long forgotten, bin Laden hated the US because the Saudis turned to the US for freeing Kuwait; Something that bin Laden felt was his birthright and stairway to ascension into the world of muhammed. That he didn’t get his moment of glory set him forth to focus his efforts on attacking the United States and her people.

The media has bastardized this whole thing for decades now. But as a thought experiment, let’s say bin Laden was enlisted by the Saudis to free Kuwait. Let’s even suppose he was successful. How would the map be drawn then? Kuwait would be under the supreme rule and command of….bin Laden, no? And his shariah law and little kingdom would’ve been no better than Hussein’s. The fact that the Saudis didn’t beg him to free Kuwait caused the skinny little man’s ego to go into overdrive. He spent a lot of money to get 9/11 to happen and yet, that wasn’t enough. He blamed the US for putting him into obscurity, not the Saudis who ignored him. Isn’t that odd in its own right?

So now he’s dead. And, like it or not, bad people on this planet need to be done away with. That’s another thing the left thinks is solely their responsibility. And yet, while they want to kill conservative republicans, they are conflicted as to what to do about people who have openly admitted to killing. Again, liberalism is a form of brain-damage.

Is it just me or is each day’s news release designed to provoke anger among our enemies?

  4. Astravogel says:

It may be that the SEAL team was trained
that the Arabic phrase for ‘Get on the floor
with your hands behind you!” is BANG!

  5. proreason says:

Finally, FINALLY, one thing is absolutely clear.

Whenever Obamy is involved in anything, the fog of lies is so intense that there is no way humanly possible to figure out what the truth is.

  6. tranquil.night says:

We pretty much nailed it from the beginning. Obama wanted credit for the kill order but doesn’t want to admit it was an assassination. Once we started hearing that perhaps only one target fired on them, the narrative shifted placing all the responsibility for decisive action on the SEALs instead.

So ‘radical Moose-limb sensibilities already seem good and offended, but especially those Euro-elites that the Left has been courting for the past decade – Obama just confirmed his status as the second Bush to them.

So can we please release the picture? Because it’s really more important than just proving he’s dead and quieting skeptics. I don’t even want to see it, but I want our enemies to. There’s nothing glorious about the reality of death for a Jihadist. You’ll be left a faceless mess. It’s the power of the self-perpetuating myth that Obama won’t kill by not releasing the photos; the sense that even in death OBL continues to terrorize the global psyche. That’s what solidifies your status in Islamist Martyrdom.

If the worry really is about how gruesome it is, why not crop one half of the photo away as best as possible?

  7. Right of the People says:

It just gets curiouser and curiouser as we go along. I find it hard believing someone from SEAL Team Six shot at that close range and missed. Not freakin’ likely!

    Bill,
I believe you’re correct, the Lame Stream Media is trying to take a positive story, this terrorist POS being deceased and spin it so we piss off everyone in the Mooselimb world like they need anymore incentive.

    • jobeth says:

I wondered about the ‘missed shot’ myself. Seals just don’t miss at that range. So many questions…so many lies.

Hard to sort out. Another thing to keep us busy wondering about the details of while that ‘other hand’ is so busy.

  8. proreason says:

This account from Fox describes the shifting sands of the moronistration’s “narrative”.

    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/05/06/bin-laden-killing-white-house-pentagon-cia-botched-storyline/

It sticks pretty closely with what the government said at various points in time, with a couple of exceptions, so it doesn’t include the tons of information in the British papers gathered from the living witnesses (who certainly have their own agendas).

Since the story is not about what really happened, but about what the government said and when they said it, it seems more believable than anything yet. All of the information in this Fox report is easily confirmable from multiple sources. In other words, it is the story of the shifting story.

It’s clear that there was an early effort by the moronistration to glamorize the violence and danger of the raid itself and to paint OBL as a coward. After a couple of days, almost everything that the officials said in the first two days was revised, not just a little, but almost completely reversed.

I guess it could have resulted from confusion and lack of good infomation, but since the misinformation was so widespread, and seemed to back away from the fictional first account in fairly small steps, it seems to indicate that there was a deliberate attempt to mislead.

    Are you surprised?

  9. Liberals Demise says:

    Well….it is settled.
They weren’t watching a blank TV screen after all.
They were intensely listening to the Beatles “White Album” being played
    backwards for subliminal messages.

  10. oldpuppydixie says:

I’m getting an “aroma” of something…can’t quite put my finger on it….

So we’re supposed to believe that no one remembers what exactly happened when OBL was shot??!! Oh please!!! The Obama Regime can’t tell the truth about ANYTHING, can it. Evidently they don’t want to upset their sensitive, leftist friends by admitting the blew this unarmed sub-human away!!!

And where exactly are the leftist Dem congress- critters demanding trials for the SEALS?? Marines were called murderers and terrorists at Haditha.

  11. canary says:

Report was Bin Laden was on 3rd floor, while others said ground.

Who’s Your Daddy? who’s your daddy?

Did the children even know who their daddies or mommies were? Ya know how the mormon bigamist sects play the game. That’s my husband. No the 13 year old changes her mind, that’s my daddy. I see it with the 6 year illegals Mexican. That’s my sister for months. Then it’s a cousin. That’s my daddy for monthes then it’s that’s my uncle. These children are drilled.

Let’s guess that the word Osama Bin Laden was not allowed in that military complex home of OBL.

No way with very young children would say, “that is your daddy Osama bin Ladden,
but if you must call him Uncle Ubama. We won’t just wash your mouth out with soap, we’ll cut your tongue out.”
DNA will have to confirm who was everyone in the family was. lol. A religion like Obama’s father’s side of the family that has so many grannies, young girl moms who run away leaving older sisters to raise their
    siblings.

  12. jobeth says:

I would have SO loved to be a fly on the wall this afternoon when Obalmy met with the Seals.

Obalmy can have full comfort to know no matter what he said to them would remain forever secret.

I’m wondering how he may have talked to them saying “thanks, but here’s what you did wrong”

Angers me. We have seen him do it the the surpreme court, to Ryan and knowing he can’t be found out…likely the Seals.

I’m so sick of this guy.

    • tranquil.night says:

Yeah, I would love to know what the superheros impressions are of a self-styled god. I can see it now.

      “He had soft hands..”

  13. proreason says:

“RUSH: There’s no question. Look, folks, let me just tell you, let me just tell you, there was no way, I’ll repeat this over and over again. Snerdley, do you think there’s…? Look, it’s Open Line Friday, so if it’s what people want to talk about, that’s the rule. Are we getting into fatigue on this? (interruption) Not yet? Good. My empathy says we’re not, but I just — wanted to check. There’s no way they’re gonna take this guy alive — ever, folks! They were never going to do it. I don’t care if he was wearing a diaper, underwear, nude, they were never going to take him alive. They were never gonna bring him back and subject him to their own sissified system of dealing with these people that they have set up. They were never gonna give him an ACLU lawyer. They’re not gonna put him on trial; they’re not gonna do that. No way, shape, manner, or form. Well, the evidence clearly bears me out here. They’re going back and forth on whether or not this was a kill mission. Don’t doubt me out there. This was a kill mission.”

ok, the Seals knew that because that’s what they did. Panetta knew it. The military knew it.

Did Obamy know it? because it’s really really hard to believe he could bring himself to order it.

    • tranquil.night says:

Right. Maybe they misled him a bit on the rules of engagement. They might’ve sold it to him as capture or kill with the more acute details open-ended or handled by another member of the team.

The 25 minute rumored blackout covers the time of entry into thr McMansion, the time in which we’ve now come to learn it was an overtly one-sided execution. Maybe the blackout is a lie (hard to believe they lost all communication), maybe it was intentional to protect the president and the council from the final call.

Doubt we’ll know and I think it’s kind of a lesser issue now compared to some of the other public missteps he’s made since like the burial/photos. Ironically I think the international Left and Islamic educrats who are going to be the ones to press the President over the mechanics of the operation/assassination since it’s they who would have a problem with it at the end of the day, lol.

And it shouldn’t go without saying that Rush has been as vital and on the ball this week as ever.

  14. Anonymoose says:

It’s a given the liberals would start trying to turn this into “assassination,” to which I say, “so?” He didn’t blink an eye for killing our people, why should we care about him at all?

At first I thought the changing stories were was because of Obama’s poor control over his people, but now I’m beginning to wonder if it’s just they have no idea what they’re doing. The Seals did a textbook job, and it wouldn’t surprise me if the rules of engagement were that any able bodied adult male who didn’t immediately surrender was to be eliminated. There would be simply no way to know if they were wearing bomb vests or if the building was wired to blow.

The real tickler would have been to keep quiet about it until the media started talking, then come out with the exact story afterwards. But the administration—-between the constantly changing story; not details but major points….Obama can’t even win right.

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

      “Obama can’t even win right.”

There’s a mouthful. Rang the bell with that one.

    • proreason says:

These guys are so tangled up in themselves that they don’t believe in winning either.

Somehow they have convinced themselves that nothing is real.

It sure is a convenient mechanism if your goal is tear down every human institution, tradition and belief…and set yourself up as the be all end all of existance.

    • Liberals Demise says:

Hitler suffered (?) from this complex.
As did Hirohito, Mussolini, Stalin, Amin and the list is too long to continue
      but ya’ll get my drift.

    • tranquil.night says:

What’s the American Left to do? Criticize Obama? Vote Republican? Racists.

If 2008-2010 was the era in which Obama schooled us on the Rules for Radicals, 2011 is the year when Obama is schooling the nutroots on Rules for Rubes.

Rule #1 – All stated ideological principles are subordinate to the ‘greater good’ of cementing political power. The anti-war charade is first on that list and hardly the only.
