Chavez Calls Win A Mandate for Socialism

From an overjoyed Associated Press:

Chavez Calls Venezuela Vote Mandate for Socialism

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — President Hugo Chavez says a referendum victory that removed limits on his re-election is a mandate to intensify his socialist agenda for decades to come. Opponents warn of an impending dictatorship…

"Those who voted "yes" today voted for socialism, for revolution," Chavez thundered to thousands of ecstatic supporters jamming the streets around the presidential palace. Fireworks lit up the Caracas skyline, and one man walked though the crowd carrying a painting of Chavez that read: "Forever."

Josefa Dugarte stared at the crowd from the stoop of her apartment building with look of dismay.

"These people don’t realize what they have done," she muttered…

"In 2012 there will be presidential elections, and unless God decides otherwise, unless the people decide otherwise, this soldier is already a candidate," Chavez said to applause. First elected in 1998, he has said he might stay in power until 2049, when he’ll be 95

At their campaign headquarters, Chavez opponents hugged one another, and some cried. They said the results were skewed by Chavez’s broad use of state resources to get out the vote, through a battery of state-run news media, pressure on 2 million public employees and frequent presidential speeches which all television stations were required to air

Funny, but when Mr. Chavez lost a similar referendum back in December 2007, he did not announce that it was a mandate to end his socialism.

But we have seen this coming for Venezuela for a long time. (We predicted this outcome back in May 2006.)

And now we see it coming to our own country.

Was this the same kind of vote a few years back (certified as “legit” by Jimmah Carter) where all reputable exit polls indicated he actually lost by 60-40? Was anyone doing exit polls that verify this was an honest election?

On the other hand, with our own wretched politicians running our country, who has the time to care about who the Venezuelans elect, legitimate or not. Who are we to throw stones at Venezuela?

Funny, the Democrats in Congress feel the same way about Obama’s win.

Heck, if you want to see a complete disregard for actual election results, you need look no further than Minnesota…

The petrothug from Venezuela only won because he followed two guidelines from the Marxist handbook.

    1. True power comes not from who casts the ballot but from those who count them.

    2. True power flows from the end of a gun barrel.

Chavez is nothing more than a pachuco/dictator wannabe.

This sounds all too familiar for my taste.

Hummm…the MSM may as well be state-run since they’re in the tank; moving the census under white house control sounds like “using state resources”; politicians (public employees) are already manipulated (under pressure) in order to obtain federal funding; frequent presidential speeches directed at the “economic crisis” which are all televised to manipulate the people into agreeing with this steal-from-us bill…All we need now is to extend the 22nd Amendment (presidential term limits) and we’ll have our own version of Chavez.

    • I have wondered WHY the msm would so completely sell its soul, but if you take into consideration that GE is receiving money as GE capital, making by green initiatives though its enviro conglomerate.. it makes sense.. Then PBS.. which has all the reason in the world to support its sugar nanny..

As to CBS and ABC and CNN? not sure, but it aint just the slant of the participants.. there is a back door motive like the rest to be sure. Rent seekers all

I think the 22nd Amendment is next on the legislative plate so we can have “President for Life” Obammy. What has happened to my country?

Today’s Am Thinker article is well worth a look, and highly relevant to Chavez and our own Moron:

“Near the end of the Republic Socrates decides to drive this point home by showing Adeimantus what happens to a regime when its parents and educators neglect the proper moral education of its children. …without proper moral conditioning a regime’s “defining principle” will be the source of its ultimate destruction. For democracy, that defining principle is freedom. According to Socrates, freedom makes a democracy but freedom also eventually breaks a democracy…

some conclusions about the overall message of this fascinating text and its relevance for 21st century Americans.
First, those of us who are incapable of self-mastery will always shamefully prostrate ourselves before messianic political leaders. The progressive left in America has spent countless generations destroying the guardians of our inner citadel: religion, family, parents, and tradition …– in short, conservatism and limits. When we exhaust the financial and moral capital of previous generations (and future ones, as with the current stimulus bill) we will dutifully line up at the public trough, on our knees. … Citizens capable of self-mastery will always choose to be left alone. In other words, they’ll always choose limited government.

Second, …freedom without limits paves the way to tyranny by undermining respect for the law. … When politicians play fast and loose with the law it becomes easier for them and for the people to see special champions as alternative sources of rule…. … Today in America the objective basis for law is being attacked on campuses and even in law schools as too authoritarian and too insensitive to the subjective experiences and personal narratives of criminals. … As Socrates warned: extreme freedom will instill a paranoia about any kind of “master” including objective measurements of right and wrong, and of merit based forms of achievement. …But when the citizens become enslaved to their vices they’ll dutifully cry out for another kind of master….

Third, is the crucial role of education…The ethos of American education has been for many decades saturated with a simple mantra: choice. What’s worse, those few remaining educators who chant the old, Socratic mantra of “judgment” are vilified and harassed by the modern day lotus-eaters as hateful conservatives.

Socrates predicted that all of this would happen in a democracy. But it is judgment not choice that enables a young person to erect a citadel in the soul. This eliminates the need for tyrants, and for bailouts too.”

The Moron has certainly read Socrates.

Socrates foresaw exactly what is happening today.

Many posters on S&L have said similar words to Socrates said millenia ago.

In a nutshell, the warning is this…..freedom without responsibility destroys itself. A dictator will emerge to save the unfettered from themselves, and they will willing follow him to their own destruction and the destruction of democracy.

Proreason, your last few remarks concerning freedom hit the nail right on the head. Freedom unrestrained does lead to tyranny and oppression. The apostle Paul spoke about this danger over a thousand years ago and it’s still just as relevant today.
