Castro sometimes would speak for 10 - 12 hours when he got going and of course no one ever left until he was done. This nationalizing businesses in the third world is nothing new. Back in 1937, Mexico, Venezuela & Columbia all snatched the oil fields and processing plants, nationalizing them. It's what third world despots do. We never got them back either. I pray every night when I go to bed that a miracle will happen, that this is all a nightmare brought on by eating liverwurst before going to bed and I'll wake up and everything will be normal.

Just read this Onion's story. This should be a required "lab" for all those students enamored with socialism/communism.

Wouldn't take too many years to get that nutty thought out of their tiny little brains!

Is the guy hopped up on crack or something? Wouldn't you suspect that only someone that had a mental problem, would blather on for 5 to 6 hours? Most people would have the smarts to pare it down to 1 hour or less, considering the attention span of human beings.

But, it is probably a test to the party loyalists to see if they love anything or anyone enough to tolerate a 6 hour speech without walking out, sleeping, going to the bathroom for 50 minutes, smoke breaks for 30 minutes, eating lunch, or outright storming off in disgust. I take it there is no Q&A afterword so "the people" can speak their mind?

Ha! They truly do get the government they deserve!

OH YEAH, we can see this train wreck coming miles away!

Socialism has only forced people to work harder at the barrel of a gun. Remember all those Stalinist ideas about production? They had to force people into farming unions and the phrase was invented, "They pretend to pay us, and we pretend to work."

Here is The Onion's take on how socialism works:

You reminded me of something. When I was a kid, there was a show called "Mission Impossible" and many times their episodes had to do with a United States that was in mild turmoil against corrupt dictatorships that proliferated in all the deep, dark places.

Zooming ahead 40+ years.....we have corrupt dictatorships that the US is forced to put up with.

So, in all this time, through the eyes of a television show, and others like it, I see that "the more things have changed, the more they have stayed the same". Puny little turds, running their nations into the ground, acting like bigshots and generally being little more than annoyances. Unfortunately, they act like the paper boy who has photos of Mrs Y in bed with Mr X...or better yet, in bed with Mrs X.

Indeed, politics makes strange bedfellows. I remember going to Libya as a kid when my dad worked for Mobil Oil. That worked out so well. A month after we left Qaddafi did his thing and set his nation on that honeymoon with the USSR. Wonder what he's saying to himself now before he turns the light out to go to sleep...if he can stand to be in the dark.

But to make it worse, while the angry, uneducated world was screaming "imperialists" at the US, the US was in the process of destroying the American education system through the Dept of Education...yet another oxymoron. However, the obvious result of this was to breed home-grown terrorists who woudl also scream "imperialists" at major US businesses. Never for once realizing that major US businesses were the backbone of our nation.

To call them imperialists is to not understand the US and also to not understand imperialism.

I had the opportunity to listen to a liberal babble about "US imperialism" and they brought up Coca-Cola and McDonalds. They said, "I was in India and Coca Cola is EVERYWHERE! PROOF", she said, "That the US corporate machine is everywhere."

I didn't explain to her that the "US corporate machine" to which she refers is good ol' capitalism...as that would take all day...but I did say..."Seems to me they like Coca-Cola. Let me ask you, were they drinking it at gunpoint?" She looked at me horrified....and then went on a diatribe about guns. Dang! I had used the "g" word. So I tried a different tack. "Are they held hostage and forced to drink Coca-Cola? Or can they just have one with...oh...'everything' and anything?"

"No" she said with snot in her tone. "They can do whatever they want with it"

Surprised at the honest answer, I then asked, "Then how again, is that imperialism?"

She had no answer. I continued. "When did the United States become an 'empire'?"

No answer.

"I see." I stated flatly. I should like to think I encouraged her to go to the library and, instead of reading about the sexuality of trees, to go to the history section and study up on what makes up an empire...like 1900 Japan, China, Great Britain, etc. Usually overseen by ....a royal figure...such as a king or *gasp* an EMPEROR.

But for the poor, angered, liberal who is usually a victim.....usually of some injustice in their life real or imagined....they cannot see the US as a free superpower that really doesn't just go and conquer lands and usurp its peoples.

I've had the Iraq argument so many times....and well....although I can see the other side...I am still reminded of the whopping number of democrat votes that wanted Saddam's head on a shingle.

I would give a year of my life to hear Hitlery say.....just once....."I voted to go into Iraq because I wanted the US to defeat them and show the rest of the world we're not kidding around by playing nice".

Hell, for that....two years of my life.

But I'm sure my lifespan, as planned, will remain unchanged since no such revelation is forthcoming.

But yeah, as for Chavez....he'll get his. Maybe we'll someday get to do it like we did with ol' Pineapple face.

I am reminded of a very bright and energetic college professor I had who, when irritated with a rather self-impressed undergrad said, "Every time you open your mouth and speak, you withdraw from the sum of human knowledge.".

How true this is of our beyond-reason president.

But picture it....What kind of beret do you think Bo-Bo will pick? He likes dark suits....so...a nice bright contrasting stand out color like....red....with some sort of unique but recognizable symbol for an armband, perhaps. Wouldn't that be striking? Wouldn't that "send a message"? Just think America, how close we really are to that.

Good luck with that Hugo! I'm sure you can do for your rice production what your nationalization has done for your oil production: screw it up and stop all investment in it. If the Venezuelans keep voting for this guy, they get exactly what they deserve. Ditto for the US and voting for liberals. It's just pisses me off that the rest of us have to suffer too.

Good luck with that Hugo! I’m sure you can do for your rice production what your nationalization has done for your oil production: screw it up and stop all investment in it. If the Venezuelans keep voting for this guy, they get exactly what they deserve. Ditto for the US and voting for liberals. It’s just pisses me off that the rest of us have to suffer too.

I love the remark about Obama talking and our stock market.

We could save the market a few thousand points, if Obama somehow got strep throat

"He said the government would guarantee maximum output at the plant."
Didn't Ayn Rand say something about the lash or money? If they had been allowed to operate profitably, he wouldn't have needed to seize them to guarantee maximum output... they would have had all the incentive they need.

And this obvious piece of wisdom will fall on deaf ears on the American left.. they will say "Of course! how dare those corporations hurt the poor by charging fair prices for their rice."

What if they had never risked the capital to start those farms in the first place. A-holes like Chavez and Maxine Waters and Sander and Barney Frank and Obama never stop to ask that question. Who took the risk, and if they can't profit, why should they risk any more, and who will take the risk in the future if they will lose everything to an immature dictator?
