China Gets 19 Countries To Boycott Nobel

From an admiring New York Times:

19 Countries to Miss Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony

LONDON — Nineteen governments have said their ambassadors will not attend a ceremony this week awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to Liu Xiaobo, the imprisoned Chinese dissident, the Norwegian prize committee said on Tuesday, more than tripling the number of those declining to be represented and reflecting the strong pressure exerted by Beijing to boycott the event.

In case there was any doubt that dictatorships are alive and well and kowtowed to around the globe.

In a statement on its Web site, the peace prize committee said that as of Monday, 44 embassies in Oslo, the Norwegian capital, had signaled their intention to send a representative to the ceremony on Friday. But the number who “for various reasons declined our invitations” had risen to 19 from 6 three weeks ago.

Those countries are China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Colombia, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Serbia, Iraq , Iran, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Venezuela, the Philippines, Egypt, Sudan, Ukraine, Cuba and Morocco.

What a roll call of honor. Notice our good friends Russia and Iraq and Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia on the list.

But surely North Korea is on the list, as well. Perhaps The Times thought it went without saying.

China has been incensed by Mr. Liu’s award. For its part, the prize committee has said that for the first time since 1936, the medal and diploma that accompany the prize will not be handed over because neither Mr. Liu, who is in prison, nor members of his family have been permitted to travel to Oslo to receive them.

Mr. Liu, 54, is serving an 11-year sentence for subversion.

Mr. Liu’s wife, Liu Xia, has been held incommunicado since the award was announced in October and the government has been waging an offensive to rebrand the prize as a Western ploy to undermine the Chinese Communist Party’s hold on power

Mind you, it’s a small miracle that the US is sending a delegation – if they do.

Reuters quoted Chinese officials as saying supporters of Mr. Liu are fundamentally opposed to China’s development and trying to interfere in the country’s politics and legal system.

Are they accusing Mr. Liu of being a ‘global warmer’?

A Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Jiang Yu, told reporters: “I would like to say to those at the Nobel committee, they are orchestrating an anti-China farce by themselves.”

We are not changing because of interference by a few clowns and we will not change our path," she said, according to Reuters…

Now that is diplomacy.

According to the Nobel Web site, the last time no one was present to accept the peace medal was in 1936, when the German journalist and pacifist Carl von Ossietzky, who had been awarded the prize in 1935, was not allowed to leave Nazi Germany in either year

And the similarity doesn’t end there.

But China owns us now, so who are we complain?

So, the committee finally awards the prize for someone fighting against the evils of Communism.
Hollywood and Al Gore will likely boycott this award as well.
Everyone knows that the prize is now reserved for Socialists, Communists, and Terrorists.

  2. Right of the People says:

Where were they last year when Brother Barry got his Nobel?

NoNeo, You’re are correct, that is why Barry the Impotent received his, he qualifies on all three counts.

Anyone seen this documentary called “The Shock Doctrine” by Naomi Klien. She has this theory that Freidman & Van Hyek have placed in their free-market capitalism theories that you need to have a crisis in order to create or implement free-market capitalism. The big example of her theory is Chile during the 70’s with Pinochet taking out Allende. Never do they mention a military dictatorship is not recomended by these free-market capitalists. Nobody skipped out on Milton’s Nobel Ceremony.

She claims free-market capitalism destroyed most of Eastern Europe and just made rich people richer. Never does she admit that communism & Keyenes theories have done more to hurt economies and destroy lives than free-market capitalism ever could. I almost broke my TV until I got smart and turned it off.

I’m sure the guy that can’t be in Norway to get his Nobel Prize is being held captive because of free-market capitalism not a hardened Communist Regime.

Holy hammer and sickle, I wonder how much O blah blah has to give up to China so they don’t make the call that tells him that if we don’t stay home they will start unloading bonds. But what the hell the NPP is a farce anyway.

    Sorry, duplicate

Between awarding Al Gore a prize for his junk science and Obama for doing nothing, hasn’t’ the Nobel Prize pretty much discredited itself? It’s too bad that
China has been the only country with the balls to call them on their bogus awards, but at least someone finally did it.
