China Tells Obama To Cancel Dalai Lama

From China’s Xinhua News Service:

China urges U.S. to immediately withdraw decision on Obama-Dalai Lama meeting

BEIJING, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) — China urges the United States to immediately withdraw a decision of arranging U.S. President Barack Obama to meet with the Dalai Lama, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said here Friday.

China has lodged solemn representation with the United States over such a decision, Ma said in a statement when responding to relevant questions.

"China firmly opposes the Dalai Lama visiting the United States and U.S. leaders’ contacting with him," Ma said, adding China’s position on the issue has been "consistent and clear."

Ma said China has made repeated solemn representations with the U.S. side over Obama’s possible meeting with the Dalai Lama recently.

"We urge the U.S. side to fully understand the high sensitivity of Tibet-related issues, honor its commitment to recognizing Tibet as part of China and opposing ‘Tibet independence,’" Ma said.

According to reports, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said Thursday afternoon local time that the meeting between President Obama and the Dalai Lama was slated for Feb. 18 at the White House.

Ma also called on the Unites States to refrain from offering the Dalai Lama venue and convenience for his engagement in anti-China splitting activities, and undermining the stability of Tibet and interfering in China’s internal affairs, so as to avoid further damage to Sino-U.S. relations.

While they are at it, maybe China can ask Obama to refrain from offering Khalid Sheik Mohammed a venue for his activities, as well.

By the way, this is the latest in a series of at least three articles on the Xinhua site about this. The Chi-coms are obviously deadly serious.

And, after all, they must have heard Mr. Obama promise that the US would no longer interfere with the internal affairs of other nations.

Besides, an far more importantly, as Confucius might have said (but didn’t): He who pays the piper calls the tune.

He’ll meet with the Dalai Lama.

The press will laud his other worldly courage for doing so.

He already struck the deal with the chicoms.

You don’t think he would do anything without a deal, do you?

    • Flession says:

Of course he had to make a deal.

You can’t bring over your friends to spend the night until you convenience mommy and daddy otherwise. After all, it’s their house; they bought it after all.

Obama just wants to interview Dalai Lama for part of his world tour for his book.

China shouldn’t worry Obama will defend some worthless little country. When it comes to China, Obama only sees dollar signs and how to become more powerful economically than China, which Obama’s answer is the country that goes the greenist will rule economically.
So, bizarre is Obama’s & Hillary’s pressure on China to go green if it means China becoming more powerful. No telling what goes on behind closed doors.

Frankly, I don’t care much about Tibet – Tibet is a Hollywood cause alpha to Omega, and that automatically makes it for me suspect –
Then, philosophically speaking, why should we go for that that Nowhere that is, from the enlightenment’s point of view par to Somalia?
Then, pragmatically – there is not much in that – sure, it’s good to keep the Chinese out of balance, but gratuitously irritating them on an issue which anyway yields nothing for us makes no sense –

Obama’s move on this is typical for him – satisfying liberal’s and lefties’ absurd and anti-american demands (Gitmo, NYC trials, gays, kowtowing & apologizing left and right for imaginary crimes, Tibet, etc.), while acquiescing our enemies encroachment (European shield, Iran’s bomb, pull out from Pacific) –

Since David Brooks heartily approves this move, it means that it is terribly wrong –
