Sheehan Complains About “Media Scrutiny”

In Mother Sheehan’s latest rantings, she complains about the amount of scrutiny her past is getting from the media.

From those masters of objectivity at Reuters:

From Cindy’s appearance at Independence Hall, in Philadelphia, Friday.

NEW YORK, Sept 18 (Reuters) – Peace activist Cindy Sheehan brought her "Bring Them Home Now Tour" to a Brooklyn church on Sunday, where she was greeted by hundreds of cheering supporters.

Sheehan was accompanied by a dozen veterans and family members of active-duty or killed-in-action soldiers who oppose the war in Iraq and are calling for withdrawal of U.S. troops.

"These people," she said of those who are touring the country with her, "are true American patriots" who "paid the most terrible price," in contrast to "the maniacs who run our country right now."

Speakers at the event, one of 200 hundred in 28 states over 21 days, urged people to turn up next weekend in Washington for a three-day anti-war protest.

"It’s not patriotism when you say my country, right or wrong," Sheehan said. Rather, she said, "true patriots" speak out when they country is headed on the wrong path.

The soft-spoken Sheehan, whose oldest son was killed in Iraq, first came to attention when she camped outside President George W. Bush’s ranch in Crawford, Texas, this summer asking for a meeting with the president, which was not granted.

She had tough words for the military, the Bush administration and even Democratic liberals such as a Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, whom she said voters should reject if she fails to toughen her stance against the war.

"We have to stop making war profitable," she said.

Sheehan also took issue with the media, which she said has spent more time scrutinizing her past than Bush’s policies.

"They aren’t asking ‘when are you bringing our troops home,’ so we have to do it," she said. "It’s my job as an American." She added, "it isn’t about hatred. It’s about never seeing my oldest son again," she said, her voice breaking.

Actually, we have to take steps to stop making hating America profitable. This was just one of Cindy’s latest speeches she’s delivered since she signed with her gal pal Medea Benjamin’s speakers bureau.

They will not disclose Mother Sheehan’s rates, but they are projected to be at least $30,000 an appearance.

As for the media’s scrutiny of Cindy’s past — you’re looking at it. There has been no scrutiny of Mother Sheehan in the mainstream media. There has instead been an active cover-up of her past actions and remarks.

"It’s not patriotism when you say my country, right or wrong," Sheehan said. Rather, she said, "true patriots" speak out when they country is headed on the wrong path."

Lest we forget, here are some of Mother Sheehan’s more gentle remarks about this country. Remarks never once mentioned by our one party media:

I was raised in a country by a public school system that taught us that America was good, that America was just. America has been killing people, like my sister over here says, since we first stepped on this continent, we have been responsible for death and destruction. I passed on that bullshit to my son and my son enlisted. I’m going all over the country telling moms: “This country is not worth dying for."

I would never have let [Casey] go and try and defend this morally repugnant system we have. The people are good, the system is morally repugnant.

They’re a bunch of fucking hypocrites! And we need to, we just need to rise up. We need a revolution!

Besides, we’d have to be crazy to question the patriotism of a woman who calls terrorists killing our soldiers " freedom fighters "? Something Cindy said in a videotaped interview with CBS News, which was edited out of their report.

But man, the media have been brutal on her.
