Clown Banned For Life, NAACP Wants DOJ Probe

From the Christian Science Monitor:

Obama-mask clown gets lifetime Missouri fair ban

By Peter Grier | August 13, 2013

WASHINGTON – Missouri State Fair officials have banned for life the rodeo clown who wore a President Obama mask while facing bulls at the event over the weekend.

The clown in question engaged in an “unconscionable stunt” and will never perform at the Show Me state venue again, the Missouri State Fair Commission said Monday, in a statement. Fair officials are also reviewing their contract with the Missouri Rodeo Cowboy Association, the contractor responsible for hiring and overseeing bull ring clowns

That will ‘show them.’ Fair is fair.

During a bull riding contest on Sunday, the clown appeared wearing a rubber mask of the president with an upside down broomstick trailing from his backside, as if it were a tail. The audience was asked, over a public address system, if it wanted to see Mr. Obama “run down by a bull.” Many people present clapped and cheered, according to one witness, Perry Beam.

“It was feeling like some kind of Klan rally,” said Mr. Beam.

In fact, Mr. Beam is the kind person who graciously posted the video of this unthinkable blasphemy on the internet, and who has peddled his story everywhere he could. He was so outraged and afraid for his life.

Others defended the act as within the mainstream of rodeo ring entertainment. The clown was meant to be imitating a dummy, another witness, Missouri Rodeo Cowboy Association member David Berry, told the Associated Press. Bull ring clowns often dress as sitting presidents, Mr. Berry said…

As we were among the first to note, President George Herbert Walker Bush was subjected to much the same treatment in 1994. And it didn’t even raise an eyebrow. In fact, it didn’t even make the headline or lead of the article that reported it. It was only mentioned in passing.

Whatever the intent, the nationwide reaction was harsh. Photos and video of the event went viral, and social media exploded with condemnation.

Just like there was condemnation for the endless ways President George W. Bush was portrayed and threatened with assassination during his tenure. Except there wasn’t any.

Meanwhile, we have this from the Washington Times:

That’s a clown question, bro: Rodeo clowns asked to take ‘sensitivity training’

By Jessica Chasmar | August 13, 2013

The fallout from a Missouri rodeo clown’s mockery of President Obama continued as the Missouri State Fair said it will force all clowns to undergo sensitivity training and the head of the state rodeo-clown organization resigned.

The state fair commission voted Monday to ratify its decision to ban for life the clown in question who wore an Obama mask. The rodeo announcer and a second clown wearing a microphone asked whether the crowd wanted to see him get run down by a bull.

Except the announcer did not say that.

The crowd enthusiastically approved, according to spectators, one of whom compared it to a Ku Klux Klan rally and said his mixed-race family felt threatened.

That would be Mr. Beam, again.

But the state commission went further Monday, saying it will require that before the Missouri Rodeo Cowboy Association can take part in any future state fair, “they must provide evidence to the director of the Missouri State Fair that they have proof that all officials and subcontractors of the MRCA have successfully participated in sensitivity training.” …

You will learn to not speak against the King!

Meanwhile, we have this from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:

Missouri State Fair bans rodeo clown who mocked Obama

By Elizabeth Crisp | August 12, 2013

JEFFERSON CITY – Missouri State Fair officials on Monday barred a rodeo clown who mocked President Obama from ever performing at the fair again.

And the president of the Missouri Rodeo Cowboy Association, a private nonprofit group that sponsored the rodeo and employed the clown, resigned Monday after getting deluged with criticism for serving as the announcer during the performance Saturday night.

The actions came in response to a firestorm of criticism from Democrats, Republicans and others who described the performance as inappropriate, disrespectful and embarrassing. Several demanded investigations and an end to tax subsidies for the fair, held each year in Sedalia.

Videos posted online show the clown, who wore a Barack Obama mask, being chased by bulls as someone calls over the loudspeaker: “We’re gonna smoke Obama. … Obama, they’re coming for you this time.” The speaker also calls the masked Obama a “big goober,” before saying “This bull’s gonna get ya, Obama. He’s gonna get ya.”

He called Obama a big goober?! The outrage! (We didn’t even know ‘goober’ was a racist slur.)

Neither the fair nor the Rodeo Cowboy Association identified the clown. But family members of the performer, who goes by the stage name of Tuffy Gessling, said that the general public was missing the point.

“Late night hosts, and ‘Saturday Night Live,’ bash Obama all the time — and Bill and Hillary and Bush and Reagan,” said cousin Chrissy Gessling, of Slater, Mo. “That’s exactly what he was doing.

“It’s entertainment,” she continued. “He’s supposed to make the crowd laugh, and just like those shows, he made the crowd laugh.” Efforts to reach Tuffy Gessling late Monday were unsuccessful…

It’s Mr. Gessling who is missing the point. You cannot mock a black Democrat.

The fair’s response did little to quiet the anger of several state lawmakers who demanded investigations and threatened to cut funding for the fair, an annual event in Sedalia that receives state tax dollars.

“We’ve got to hold those responsible accountable for their actions. As far as I’m concerned, the state fair shouldn’t receive another taxpayer dollar until we can be sure it truly represents Missouri’s values,” said state Rep. Mike Colona, D-St. Louis.

“The concept of an angry bull attempting to trample a black man for the amusement of a crowd is neither entertaining nor funny and is not the type of behavior that our taxpayer-subsidized state fair should promote,” House Minority Leader Jake Hummel of St. Louis and Assistant Minority Leader Gail McCann Beatty of Kansas City said in a joint statement

Perry Beam, who was among the spectators and has called attention to the act, told The Associated Press that “everybody screamed” and “just went wild” over the rodeo show.

“It was at that point I began to feel a sense of fear. It was that level of enthusiasm,” said Beam, of Higginsville, Mo.

Poor Mr. Beam. But luckily, he will probably sue for damages. Maybe with the help of the NAACP.

NAACP: DOJ, Secret Service Should Investigate Rodeo Clown

August 13, 2013

On Tuesday, the Missouri State National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) issued a statement asking for federal involvement in the case of a rodeo clown who wore an Obama mask and then asked the crowd if they’d like to see Obama run down by a bull.

“The activities at the Missouri State Fair targeting and inciting violence against our President are serious and warrant a full review by both the Secret Service and the Justice Department,” said State President Mary Ratliff. “Incidents involving individuals acting out with extreme violent behavior in movie theaters, schools, churches, political appearances, and outdoor events in general speaks volume to the irresponsible behavior of all the parties involved with the incendiary events at the Missouri State Fair.”

Somehow we missed the NAACP condemnation of the film featuring the assassination of President Bush.

Ratliff went on to condemn the state’s funding of the State Fair: “our Legislature has failed to support Medicare Expansion in Missouri, has consistently attempted to dismantle our Human Rights Commission, fail to adequately fund urban schools — (who) are predominately African American — yet they are subsidizing the Missouri State Fair to the tune of $400,000; we are calling for the subsidy to stop…

[Governor Nixon's] planned Pancake Breakfast for Thursday should be his ‘Last Supper’ at the Missouri State Fair in response to the racially intolerant attacks on his Commander in Chief."

The insanity never stops.

Can’t the NAACP find something more frivolous to deal with?

  2. Petronius

Another outbreak of Dorner Syndrome? (after the manifesto left by Chris Dorner, former LAPD police officer and murderer) –– a form of paranoia, focusing on imagined wrongs by whites.

Or a case of mass coulrophobia (fear of clowns)?

But isn’t sensitivity training for clowns a contradiction in terms? Like ballet classes for elephants? Or cotillion school for dinosaurs?

I mean, isn’t it the role of a clown to act … well, clownish? To play the Fool? To use slapstick comedy and ridiculous behavior and costumes to poke fun at people?

ridiculous = adj. Fitted to excite ridicule; unworthy of serious consideration; absurd. Syn. see laughable. Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary (2d ed., 1956).

Next thing you know they’ll be outlawing Hallowe’en, Guy Fawkes night, and Morris dancers.

Yes, Liberals will never be content until we all live in a world without fun and laughter, where we must re-think and then re-re-think our every thought and every move, where all forms of humor are banished, where all enjoyment in life is compromised or denied, where every joke becomes problematic, where our every word is subject to misinterpretation, where our best intentions are always met with suspicion or hostility, where our every innocent remark is rebuked with an insult, where our most sincere apologies are never accepted, where our utmost generosity is never good enough, and where we are constantly reminded of the transgressions, real or imagined, of our hated white ancestors.

For the Liberal there is no amount of white groveling, humiliation, and degradation that will ever suffice to quench his thirst. Liberal guilt mongering is obsessive and insatiable.

Of course the Left has had tremendous success with its politics of personal destruction. But historically the Left has normally targeted political figures such as Richard Nixon, Clarence Thomas, Scooter Libby, Sarah Palin, or Mitt Romney (“the corporate looter”).

Now, however, a line has been crossed. Now, in the Age of Obama, the Left has widened its aim from conservative nominees and candidates to include ordinary people. Maybe that is what Nerobama meant by fundamentally transforming America?

Yes, there’s nothing a Liberal enjoys more than smearing and destroying the lives of ordinary, innocent, apolitical people: Rodeo clown Tuffy Gessling, the Swiss shop girl, Paula Deen, Riley Cooper, George Z’man, Sgt. Jim Crowley, Joe the Plumber, Marianne Chiffalle, Carrie Prejean, Katy Abram, James Rosen, Sharyl Attkisson, Dr. Anne Hendershott, Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Rick Santelli, Gregory Hicks and other whistleblowers, Tea Party “hobbits,” and all those “corporate jet owners” and “bitter clingers” and “Wall Street fat cats.” –– Yes, these people are the real problem with this country, because they are obstructing Nerobama in his efforts to fundamentally transform America.

When people no longer accept common rules in their mutual intercourse, when white people are no longer allowed to move peacefully through the streets of life, when all whites are “racists,” then civilization ceases to exist.

What mighty Contests rise from trivial Things”

I hope the rodeo clown organization told the sensitivity people to go f’ themselves.
