CNN: ACORN ‘Allegedly’ Advised Pimp

From an outraged (at the “ruse”) CNN:

[CNN caption:] The footage, which appears to have been edited in places, was recorded and posted online Thursday.

ACORN workers caught on tape allegedly advising on prostitution

(CNN) — Two employees at the Baltimore, Maryland, branch of the liberal community organizing group ACORN were caught on tape allegedly offering advice to a pair posing as a pimp and prostitute on setting up a prostitution ring and evading the IRS.

The video footage — which has been edited and goes to black in some areas — was recorded and posted online Thursday by James O’Keefe, a conservative activist. He was joined on the video by another conservative, Hannah Giles, who posed as the prostitute in the filmmakers’ undercover sting.

The video shows the pair approaching two women working at the ACORN Baltimore office and asking them for advice on how to set up a prostitution ring involving more than a dozen underage girls from El Salvador.

One of the ACORN workers suggests that Giles refer to herself as a "performing artist" on tax forms and declare some of the girls as dependents to receive child tax credits.

"Stop saying prostitution," the woman, identified by the filmmaker as an ACORN tax expert, tells Giles. The other woman tells them, "You want to keep them clean … make sure they go to school." (VideoWatch tape of alleged advice on prostitution)

Both women appear enthusiastic to help.

Calls to ACORN’s Baltimore offices were not immediately returned Thursday.

Stuart Katzenberg, lead organizer for ACORN’s Maryland chapter, told the Baltimore Sun that both ACORN employees were fired because they "did not meet ACORN’s standards of professionalism."

Sonja Merchant-Jones, chair of Baltimore City ACORN, told CNN affiliate WMAR-TV that the fired workers were seasonal, part-time employees and that no senior ACORN staff members were in the building at the time the film was made.

Scott Levenson, a spokesman at ACORN’s national offices said, "The portrayal is false and defamatory and an attempt at ‘gotcha journalism.’

"This film crew tried to pull this sham at other offices and failed. ACORN wants to see the full video before commenting further," Levenson said.

The conservative filmmakers unsuccessfully attempted similar ruses at the group’s offices in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Los Angeles, California, and New York, Levenson said.

Law enforcement officials in the Baltimore area wouldn’t confirm whether they are investigating the alleged incident at the local ACORN office. However, authorities said that under Maryland law, such undercover video may not be admissible in court as evidence…

Note how careful CNN is when it comes to accusations about their friends and allies.

And note that they waited until they could give ACORN’s (laughable) defense, before they reported the story at all.

By the way, remember how CNN called other blockbuster exposes accomplished through the use of hidden cameras “ruses”?

We don’t either.

Meanwhile, here is a following posting from the same intrepid duo, which puts the lie to several of ACORN’s claims.

Part 2 can be viewed here.

The question must sooner or later arise: Whether the American people would be better off being ruled by first-class professional criminals such as the Mafia, or by Liberals and Democrats and their troops at ACORN? Imagine that you were given a choice between rule by, say, the Mafia, or by Bolshevik thugs like the Democrats? What then?

Wouldn’t the Mafia be infinitely better? Seriously?

For one thing, the Mafia are more competent, prudent, and businesslike than the Democrat Party and its affiliates like ACORN. The Mafia would tend to operate the government as a for-profit private enterprise, albeit a criminal enterprise. As a result, they have an interest in preserving the golden goose. It is improbable that they would adopt class warfare rhetoric and redistributionist policies, or spending programs that guarantee penury to future generations.

Of course the Mafia may require you to turn a blind eye to particular criminal activities. But, as a practical matter, how would that differ from life today? Currently we have the Liberal mainstream media (here in particular CNN), which routinely ignores or covers up or glosses over every abuse of power by Nerobama and the Democrats, and by their troops such as ACORN.

The complaint may be made that courts and judges would be corrupted. But here again, I submit that the administration of justice could hardly be worse under the Mafia than under Democrat regimes, where shredding the Constitution has become routine.

The Mafia may out of expediency kill certain troublesome individuals in special circumstances. But they would never as a matter of policy subject all senior citizens across-the-board to rationed health care, with restrictions on medical treatments, and death counselors, nor implement abortion programs involving millions of innocent victims. It would not occur to them to dictate what medical treatments you shall receive, or what you may eat and drink.

From time to time, the Mafia may require certain individuals to become unwilling participants in their crimes. But they would never go so far as to decree how you must think, what you must believe, which radio programs you are permitted to listen to, and so on. Nor would they subject your children to years of public school indoctrination, and subject you to sensitivity training in the workplace. Certainly they would not trample on your religion, or imprison you for saying a prayer.

So I put the question to you, S&Lers. What do you think?

    • proreason says:

It’s a great question Petro, but an easy call.

With our fascist politicians, the demands are unbounded and ultimately consume every aspect of life. And the greed is boundless as well. We know this because of Stalin, Hitler, and Mao.

With the Mafia, as you say, they are much smarter than politicians. They wouldn’t kill the golden egg. They aren’t professional liars either. You may not like what they say, but the meaning is clear. The streets would be safer as well.

I tried to think of something that would be better under the professional politicians, but came up empty.

Is Senator Margaret Nash America’s Next President?

The Sun. Friday, 11 September 2009, London. “Go down to Wapping and see life,” Dr Samuel Johnson once advised the faithful Boswell. And so our intrepid reporter wandered down Narrow Street to The Grapes pub, where he found Viscount Hereward St John Reginald Arthur Fulbert Bollingbath, BNP Member for Stepney and Foreign Secretary, surrounded by his usual coterie, including the American ambassador, Ms Margaret Nash, Jack Kitchen, MP for Hackney and member of Prime Minister Nick Griffin’s inner circle, and Jack’s special friend, the proprietress of The Grapes, Ms Fiona Ridley, a former Playboy bunny and reputed chief of MI6.

And indeed Boswell would not have been disappointed, for The Grapes was absolutely bursting with life, as Lord Bollingbath, Ambassador Nash, Jack, and Fiona, all four as lively as ever, were celebrating Ms Nash’s recent appointment to the United States Senate.

Ambassador Nash was recently appointed as a Republican to fill the vacancy created by the mysterious disappearance of Democratic Senator Alf Cranken. The Republican governor of Minnesota, who made the appointment, called Ms Nash “the obvious choice,” saying she is “widely known as a woman who can not only weigh and judge the more obvious issues, she can make leaps of the imagination laterally, create possibilities no one else has considered, solve problems, and devise new methods of doing things. She has a kind of concentrated energy and inner excitement, as if she knows things other people do not. Clearly she is a woman whose name will be in the history books.”

Joining the celebration at The Grapes, Ms Nash and her three companions spontaneously burst into song, all swaying in unison, each arm hoisting a pint of Fuller’s London Pride,

“Come cheer up, my lads! ’tis to glory we steer,
To add something more to this wonderful year . . . .”

Then the entire pub joined in with the rousing, thumping chorus:

“Heart of oak are our ships, heart of oak are our men . . . .”

The entire crowd seemed pleased to celebrate Ambassador Nash’s appointment as Senator from Minnesota. And that’s not all they have to cheer about. There is also the matter of Lord Bollingbath’s appointment as chairman of International Machines Technology (IMT), the world’s leading manufacturer of slot machines, ATMs, and voting machines.

By the terms of the government’s £3 billion bailout, the British government took controlling interest in IMT and a majority of seats on IMT’s board of directors. Lord Bollingbath’s appointment followed in due course.

Seated in the adjoining booth were three of Lord Bollingbath’s new American business associates, whom he gaily introduced to this reporter as “three outstanding American businessmen––but not only businessmen, something even better, they are what the Yanks call ‘community organizers,’ which, according to my understanding, is the highest calling to which any American can aspire! Yes, the very highest calling, and community organizers par excellence, all three of them!”

These American gentlemen were Mr Carmine “the Gent” Galluzzo, vice president of IMT’s Northeast Region, with offices in New York, Bayonne, Atlantic City, Philadelphia, and Boston; Mr Rubio “Ice Man” Ragucci, vice president for IMT’s Gulf Region, with offices in Miami, Biloxi, Tunica, and New Orleans; and Mr Jo Jo Gigante, vice president of IMT’s West Coast Region, with offices in Las Vegas, Reno, and Los Angeles. Readers of The Sun may recall Mr Gigante as the much acclaimed body builder and the former “Mr Nevada.”

IMT’s sensational new product, Heart of Oak Vote Model 2010, is the voting machine advertised under the popular slogan, “Mighty oaks from little acorns grow.” The Heart of Oak 2010 is in high demand, being the latest model preferred by England, Ireland, Italy, Iran, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, and many of the States in the USA. According to Lord Bollingbath, hundreds of licenses for the Heart of Oak 2010 have already been issued to electoral authorities for the States of Minnesota, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, and Nevada. Negotiations with California, Ohio, Mexico, and Bolivia are presently in progress.

Lord Bollingbath, always a man of dynamism, seemed to radiate energy. He was speaking about the possibility of Senator Nash making a run for the White House in 2012. “It isn’t largely the political issues that are the problem.” He dismissed them with a wave of his hand. “It is the engineering and production . . . .”

Senator Nash swung quickly round, elegantly flipping her hair with a little flick, and placed a graceful finger lightly on Lord Bollingbath’s lips to silence him. “If we must have this discussion at all, Reggie darling, could we at least put it off until after we have finished dining? I’m sure we are grateful that you seem to be taking charge of things, but your zeal has temporarily overtaken your good taste. I would prefer to have my fish and chips without the details.”

Leaving Senator Nash, Lord Bollingbath, Jack, and Fiona to their meal, our reporter eavesdropped on Lord Bollingbath’s new American business associates.

“Sorry I’m late,” Galluzzo said, but somehow Galluzzo gave the impression of a man who was never sorry about anything. Jo Jo nodded and glanced over at Rubio, wondering if Rubio could read what he was thinking. Jo Jo could never be sure what was going through Rubio’s mind.

“No problem, Carmine. Been talking with Rubio.” Rubio sat very still, and stared blankly at Galluzzo, eyes cold, his face expressionless. A muscle ticked dangerously in his jaw.

Galluzzo smiled, but it was a smile without humor, without warmth or affection. “So what you got for me, Jo Jo?” Galluzzo said.

“Guy I know is looking for more Oak 2010s.”

Galluzzo was quiet for a moment, his eyes heavy on Jo Jo. “Who is this guy?” he said finally.

“He’d like to remain anonymous,” Jo Jo said, nodding slightly in the direction of Lord Bollingbath.

“Wouldn’t everyone?” Galluzzo said. “Is it for the IRA?”

    “No, nuthin’ like that.”

“Zealots are not good people to do business with,” Galluzzo observed, his eyebrow arched.

Jo Jo wasn’t exactly sure what a zealot was. But he knew Lord Bollingbath wasn’t negotiating with the IRA. At least not this time. “His Royal Highness is interested in an engineering project that may be undertaken by our company,” Jo Jo began again, regaining his confidence. “The three of us are here in London, at his invitation, in order to discuss the possibilities––the details, if you like. . . . Me and Rubio, we been here two days already, and the discussions have been excellent.”

Galluzzo looked unimpressed. He gave a very slight shrug. It was a minimal, elegant gesture of his shoulders. He was far leaner than Jo Jo, and more at ease in his beautifully tailored Italian suit. “What’s in it for me?” he asked.

“There’s plenty in it for all of us, Carmine.” Jo Jo hunched his shoulders in an effort to stretch and loosen his thick back muscles, restricted by his jacket and the heavy Glock Model 19 semi-automatic pistol strapped to his ribs, and discretely glanced around the room. He picked up his pen, jotted something on a napkin, and slid the napkin, face down, across the table to Galluzzo. Galluzzo curled his hand over the napkin, looked at what Jo Jo had written, then folded the napkin into his pocket and nodded. “Can you do something for us?” Jo Jo asked. “Fix it with the Chinese? We need to ramp up production. Got a big order for the Oak 2010s coming in from the governor of California. Rubio made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. . . .”

The rest of their conversation was drowned out by another rousing outburst of the chorus,

“Heart of oak are our ships, heart of oak are our men . . . .”

It is so rich that a left leaning, biased, in the tank for Obama ‘media’ outlet would use the caption – which appears to have been edited in places – let’s see – should we start with the ad nauseum use of the clipped and edited ‘Phony Soldiers’ smear against Rush Limbaugh that went all the way to Congress not to mention others including the ‘I want him to fail’ comment. Cut, taken out of context and twisted to get the entire left into a lather thinking all right/conservatives are bad, stupid, and mean petty people.

The ACORN people are aiding and abetting IRS fraud, tax evasion, prostitution, aiding and abetting the entry into America of illegal aliens, contributing to the criminal abuse of minors, aiding and abetting the taking of minors over state lines to commit sexual offenses on those minors (off the top of my head). Those are all crimes – thus those two ACORN people are criminally aiding and abetting multiple crimes – all on taxpayers dime.

How come they aren’t reporting Rep Wilson’s You Lie – as alleged? Same thing – video, we all heard it? And his wasn’t even a crime – it was his opinion possibly an insult but no crime.

  7. Steve says:

By the way, here is the official press release on this matter from a top ACORN member:

Statement from Margaret Williams, Board Member, Maryland ACORN

    September 10, 2009

Fox’s attempt to smear ACORN Thursday September 10, 2009 is despicable, part of a coordinated, long-term campaign by Fox to damage ACORN, the premiere community organization of low- and moderate-income people in the United States. Every day ACORN members are working for health care reform, living wage jobs, to end the foreclosure crisis, and to strengthen our public schools. For its part, Fox is running a campaign to demonize ACORN. They will get attention, but they will not succeed.

In July 2009, Fox agents attempted to enter ACORN offices in New York, in Philadelphia, in San Diego, in Los Angeles, and possibly other locales. In each case they were turned away, and in Philadelphia ACORN staff were concerned enough that a police report was filed. In Baltimore, the Fox squad deceived ACORN staff by consistently misrepresenting their intentions. No tax returns were filed and no assistance was provided. But the ACORN personnel in question have been terminated because their handling of the Fox agents provocateurs did not meet ACORN’s standards of professionalism.

The larger pattern of Fox’s irresponsible actions here is the real news. From Glenn Beck calling President Obama a racist, to Fox inciting racism and threats of violence with the Teaparties, to Fox unleashing a hit job on ACORN the day after an inspiring Presidential healthcare speech before Congress, Fox has long since abandoned any journalistic pretense. It is clear and not coincidence that FOX continues to attack and divide our nation along racial lines. We believe our country is beyond this type of attack and call on all Americans to demand that FOX stop its racist coverage.

Sadly, these folks got “people” (or is it “peeps”?).

This could (if left up to the o-blah-blah gang) end up just like the Panther’s voter intimidation that was caught on video. Holder, and his agency, dropping the whole thing after the smoke clears, so to speak.

      Hope not. Could be trouble.

The Senate just passed a vote to strip ACORN of federal funding 83-7.

Wonder if Stretch will let it reach the House floor.

I almost hope she blocks it.
