CNN Arranged Hillary’s Diamond/Pearl Finale
From, of all places, the Atlantic Monthly:
“Diamond v. Pearl” Student Blasts CNN
16 Nov 2007
Marc Ambinder
Maria Luisa, the UNLV student who asked Hillary Clinton whether she preferred “diamonds or pearls” at last night’s debate wrote on her MySpace page this morning that CNN forced her to ask the frilly question instead of a pre-approved query about the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository.
“Every single question asked during the debate by the audience had to be approved by CNN,” Luisa writes. “I was asked to submit questions including “lighthearted/fun” questions. I submitted more than five questions on issues important to me. I did a policy memo on Yucca Mountain a year ago and was the finalist for the Truman Scholarship. For sure, I thought I would get to ask the Yucca question that was APPROVED by CNN days in advance.”
Now, Luisa is getting “swamped” with critical e-mails.
So what happened?
Writes Luisa:
“CNN ran out of time and used me to “close” the debate with the pearls/diamonds question. Seconds later this girl comes up to me and says, “you gave our school a bad reputation.’ Well, I had to explain to her that every question from the audience was pre-planned and censored. That’s what the media does. See, the media chose what they wanted, not what the people or audience really wanted. That’s politics; that’s reality. So, if you want to read about real issues important to America–and the whole world, I suggest you pick up a copy of the Economist or the New York Times or some other independent source. If you want me to explain to you how the media works, I am more than happy to do so. But do not judge me or my integrity based on that question.”
Rivals to Clinton believe that the debate audience had a pro-Clinton tilt. UNLV was responsible for distributing most of the tickets.
In a separate post, Luisa provides the question she wanted to ask:
Yucca Mountain, NV is the proposed site for the country’s nuclear waste repository. Despite scientific evidence that it is a vulnerable site, the federal government continues to push for the plan to move forward. The evidence relied on is unsound and the risks involved in transporting high-level radioactive waste across the country are high. What will you [Sen. Clinton] do to ensure that the best site/s is/are chosen for the storage of spent nuclear reactor fuel?
Sam Feist, the executive producer of the debate, said that the student was asked to choose another question because the candidates had already spent about ten minutes discussing Yucca Mountain.
“When her Yucca mountain question was asked, she was given the opportunity to ask another question, and my understand is that the [diamond v. pearls] questions was her other question,” Feist said. “She probably was disappointed, but we spent a lot of time with a bunch of different candidates on Yucca Mountain, and we were at the end of the debate.” …
And yet this is how CNN is reporting their stage-managed happy (for Hillary anyway) ending:
A candidate’s best friend?
November 16, 2007
WASHINGTON (CNN) – Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend, but don’t ask Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York to choose those over pearls.
“I know I’m sometimes accused of not being able to make a choice,” Clinton said, laughing. “I want both.”
Clinton was asked if she preferred diamonds or pearls during CNN’s Democratic debate Thursday night. The first and last questions of the night were directed at her and concerned her ability to make a decision and stick with it.
Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware could be heard in the background saying that he liked diamonds better.
– CNN Associate Producer Lauren Kornreich
Well, they must make their mistress look good.
After all, that’s their job.

I want a POTUS who believes in the Constitution, the American way of life and will serve and protect and defend America from all enemies foreign and domestic. . .
Too bad it isn’t any of the crapweasels at last nights Democrat infomercial.
She can’t even come clean about the type of jewelry she likes - what a gutless wonder. Or greedy b****.

Diamond - a sparkling gem formed by tremendous pressure
Pearl - a lovely gem created by irritating a host
Hillary is irritating and under pressure.

What a great quote to take completely out of context, lets ask Hillary:
Q:”Where do you stand on socialism and nanny states?”
Hill: “I want both”
Q: “Are you concerned that gun control would actually make American’s less safe?”
Hill: “I want both”
Q; “Would you rather be seen as ‘pragmatic moderate’ or a socialist ‘progressive’?”
Hill: “I want both”
Q: “Are you into men or women?”

Personally, I found the spit-take inducing quote to be:
Economist? New York Times? Independent sources?!?!

They don’t believe in guns, but they do believe in stripping away our rights under the 2d Amendement. Once they can accomplish that…. “BWAHAHAHAHA”
If that ever happens I’m sure I’ll die shortly thereafter, with a gun in my hand and blood in my mouth.

Lurkin, I don’t believe it will happen - I truly believe that the majority of Americans (or damn close to that 50.1% line) are sane, rational, hard working and believe in the Constitution. I also believe that the majority of America is really lumped around the middle - not the lunatic left fringe or the hardcore religion over all right fringe. I believe that the anti-American, ‘living’ constitution, socialist bunch appear to be so ‘powerful’ and ‘big’ because the msm carries their water for them and puts their face and message out - while squashing or demeaning the real American beliefs. I also feel that the ‘majority’ of people who ’support’ the entitlement polis - don’t make an effort to do anything (donate, vote, write in etc).
I do think that the pro-2nd amendment crowd is much larger than anyone imagines (look at that little crapweasel Webb - gun toter and liar too) and the good thing is that the majority of legal gun owners know how to use them. I do think when it comes down to push and shove - shooting is a very effective shove back.
However, having said that - I would not put it past any of these crapweasels in DC, to vote away our rights while creating a loophole (think off shore accounts situation for gun possession) for themselves - they have done it for everything else (pay raises, retirement, medical care). Why not this issue too?

Lurkin, I am fully aware of their wanting to strip away our gun rights.
If it ever does happen, Ill be laying in the dirt with you.

Just a thought gents, but if it comes to that, you may want to consider making the guy on the other side lie in the dirt (with the aforementioned blood and all that other unpleasantness).
I think General George Patton said something along those lines once…
(it was either him or George C. Scott -maybe both…)
