CNN: Thousands Cheer Iran’s Michelle O

From Michelle Obama’s slavish fans at CNN:

Thousands gather to hear, cheer Iran’s Michelle Obama

From Reza Sayah

May 24, 2009

TEHRAN, Iran (CNN) — Dancing in public in not allowed in Iran, but thousands could hardly contain themselves at a recent presidential campaign rally in the capital city, Tehran.

On this day, the deafening cheers were not for presidential hopeful Mir Hossein Mousavi, but rather for his wife — a woman some are calling Iran’s Michelle Obama.

The comparisons to the first lady of the United States stem from the role Zahra Rahnavard is playing in her husband’s quest for the presidency.

Never in the history of Iranian presidential elections has a candidate put his wife in the forefront of his campaign.

Wherever Mousavi — a centrist candidate — goes, Rahnavard is usually nearby.

"We look at her and we say, ‘we want to be like her in the future, ‘ " said Shakiba Shakerhosseie, one of 12,000 people who packed into Tehran’s indoor Azadi (Freedom) sports stadium to hear Rahnavard speak…

At this rally, Rahnavard — a writer and art professor — spoke for her husband, who was campaigning elsewhere.

Wearing a floral headscarf and a traditional black chador — a full-length loose robe that women in Iran wear like a cloak — Rahnavard called for freedoms she says were lost during President Mahmoud Ahmadijenad’s term.

"I hope freedom of speech, freedom of the pen and freedom of thought will not be forgotten," she said.

The crowd, which was clad in Mousavi’s trademark color green, cheered wildly. It waved placards with his picture and swayed from side to side, chanting and beating drums.

The women sat on one side; the men on the other.

The overwhelming majority were young voters, many of whom said they attended because of Mousavi’s wife, a mother of three…

Mousavi, a former prime minister, is considered a threat to Ahmadinejad, a hard-liner, in the June 12 elections…

So now the wife of every political figure is going to be compared to Michelle Obama?

The comparisons to the first lady of the United States stem from the role Zahra Rahnavard is playing in her husband’s quest for the presidency.

Never in the history of Iranian presidential elections has a candidate put his wife in the forefront of his campaign.

How soon we (or at least the reporters at CNN) forget.

Mrs. Obama was carefully hidden away once the campaign got underway in earnest.

Lest some of her more untoward er… views leak out.

And when, for the record, did Michelle Obama ever cry out for more freedom from an oppressive government?

Of course it is equally risible that CNN thinks Mr. Mousavi, let alone his wife, is any kind of threat to Mr. Ahmadinejad’s rule.

She’s even MORE lovely than “our” Michelle…

  2. VMAN says:

OOOOOOO she’s creepy. Michelle’s just scary.

  3. Rusty Shackleford says:

” but rather for his wife — a woman some are calling Iran’s Michelle Obama.”

This is a completely presumptuous line created by its writer.

“SOME”? Which “some” would that be? 99,9% of Americans are completely unaware of this person’s existence. Most of the rest of the world is probably, likewise, ignorant. The only people who keep an eye on the social pages of Iran are, Iranians. So why was this article even written…and given any room on paper to begin with?

Iran hates us. Iran hates Obama and his non-burkha-wearing whore of an infidel’s wife.

This line, if/when read by Iranians would cause them to spit on the article, set it on fire and have an effigy-burning party of the whole obama family.

(Some people just don’t get it)

*side note: On the other hand, she’s about as ugly or uglier than Mobama

Also: “Of course it is equally risible that CNN thinks Mr. Mousavi, let alone his wife, is any kind of threat to Mr. Ahmadinejad’s rule.”

Yep, their bodies will be found burned beyond recognition if they pose any real threat to the nutjob currently in power.

“many of whom said they attended because of Mousavi’s wife, a mother of three…”

Sounds more like the effect Sarah Palin had on a John McCain rally.

  5. republicguard says:

If you go over the the liberal sites like Huffington Post (I know, dangerous territory, just like to see what the other side is doing) there are already posts from people pushing the idea of M. Obama being the next POTUS eight years from now. Monarchy?

  6. beautyofreason says:

Oh goody, when will I get to read the Iranian article on how the “Iranian Michelle” organic gardens or exercises her toned upper arms?

Ooo…..bad question from the look of the dress code.
The Iranian morality police haul off women for “crimes against chastity” such as wearing coats hemmed above the knee, boots over jeans, or headscarves that are thin / brightly colored…

Exposed upper arms would probably warrant a beating, but don’t relent! The liberal media can still get their Obama fix, perhaps by describing how “Iranian Michelle” picks chadors…

    • imnewatthis says:

If I hear about M.O.’s toned arms again, I think I’m gonna hurl! Hey, I have toned arms too, but I certainly wouldn’t want them to be a topic of international discussion.

Not to mention shiney and gaudy $400 sneakers we all know are the next fashion fad in Iran for the ladies.!

Can’t wait to see the new Iranian “Michelle, my belle” in her new fashions copied from M.O. That should keep the morality goons busy…you know, with all the women copying her like the millions of Americans copy M.O. (gag)

I’m still looking for the first woman to tell me they “just have to have” what the Belle is wearing. Of course it IS hard to talk while rolling on the floor laughing…..

He’s no different than Ahamdinejad, only hetro- with a wife; holding his manhood slave beating stick, making her carry his Quran and prayer rug.

    Another Key P
    olitician to Run Against Ahmadinejad
The Washington Post: By Thomas Erdbrink Washington Post Foreign Service
    Wednesday, March 11, 2009; A08

    TEHRAN, March 10 —
Mousavi is a critic of Ahmadinejad’s economic stewardship and a proponent of Iran’s nuclear program… a strong backer of Iran’s system of government, in which Shiite Muslim clerics oversee policies.. His critics say that he has been away from politics too long and that his economic views are too socialist.

Mousavi was prime minister from 1981 to 1989, serving under Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was then president and is now Iran’s supreme leader. Mousavi is admired for the way he managed the country during the Iran-Iraq war, which crippled the Iranian economy.

He implicitly referred to recent reports by Iran’s audit commission identifying irregularities in the government’s financial practices.

But he praised Iran’s technological achievements: “The nuclear technology is one of the examples of the achievements of our youth.”

Leni Riefenstahl would be so proud.

The Obamamedia are so adept at making everything, everywhere about The One ™. However did we survive until The One ™ descended upon us to save us?!?

4 years of this is going to be too much – I can’t imagine 8 – the GOP needs to insist on several investigations of ACORN to insure that indeed every vote counts and that the Vote Early, Vote Often brigade is brought to a stop.

Then maybe elections can be the will of the people again.

  10. Confucius says:

What does Rahnavard think of being compared to that yeti, MO?

Better yet, how are her arms? Let’s see them! Let’s see them! Oh wait, she can’t . . . . .

    Nothing but pure IDOL worship!!

Can’t wait to see M.O. shaking the woman’s left hand with her exposed arms and no head cover.

  13. MinnesotaRush says:

Just me, but I’m all ok with giving Iran the real thing .. and her hubby, too!

  14. canary says:

He’s laughing, she’s cowaring. Says women on one side of room, men on other. The goats must be sitting somewhere between them.

  15. wirenut says:

He’s holding on to what looks like a 1950’s car antenna.
She, looks like she’s been beat by one before. Perhaps many times. Somewhere in the distance….., a harlot goat seduces yet another mooselimb. What the heck does this CNN tripe have anything to do about a horse-faced anti-American gold-digger? Too much of a stretch, even for Kool-Aid. Nice chairs too! Did they dig those out of the sand from the last airline bombing?

    • jobeth says:

“He’s holding on to what looks like a 1950’s car antenna”

Looking closely I believe it’s a cattle prod….all the better to keep his woman in line….looks like it could double as a really great handy dandy whip as well!

Ahhh… the technology the 21st century has given us is truly wonderful!
