Gandhi museum, Mani Bhavan, does not want to take any chances with the law of gravity.

Fearing that a coconut could decide to come down and land on a wrong head and leave them red-faced, authorities of the two-storey building where Gandhiji [Mahatma Gandhi] stayed when in Mumbai, yesterday got the local civic ward to pick coconuts from four trees right outside the bhavan situated on Laburnum Road.

Laburnum Road is an avenue dotted with quite a few coconut trees. The bhavan is on US President Barack Obama’s itinerary during his impending visit.

"All security men will be standing outside Mani Bhavan. So, to pre-empt any mishap, we requested the ward officer to have the branches removed," said Executive Secretary of Mani Bhavan, Meghshyam Ajgaonkar.

Around 10-15 coconuts were picked from the trees outside, "The branches kept falling off. So we thought it would be better to get them removed," said Ajgaonkar.

Police officials and US security officials have been doing the rounds of Mani Bhavan over the last few days.
While some of the coconuts were sold, the workers feasted on the remaining booty.

"We didn’t want the coconuts, and we were not interested in what they did with them," said Ajgaonkar. "They also gave a good scrubbing to the entire road."

Meanwhile, the police are browsing through all books in the library at Mani Bhavan as well as setting them up properly to ensure that any of the shelves does not give way, especially during Obama’s visit.

The officials are constantly checking each and every room at Mani Bhavan.

"We don’t interfere with their work. Every step they take is a matter of precaution," Ajgaonkar said…

There will be a minimum staff presence during Obama’s visit. "Security agencies have told us not to gift him anything. We would have loved to gift him a charkha or the three monkeys," said Ajgaonkar

Maybe they have him mixed up with Al Gore. Or is that chakras?

Mani Bhavan has been flooded with calls from nearby residents, requesting a brief meeting with the President.

"One of them was an 85-year-old man who wanted to demonstrate a few yoga postures to the President," said Ajgaonkar…

Maybe he could demonstrate the ‘Down Dog.’

I do hope Obama’s vacation in India is safe, to ensure he makes his long waited circus vacation in Indonesia where they will have 3000 soldiers guard him 24/7.

  2. bill says:

So what does America get for $200 million a day, except a well fed moochelle?

  3. proreason says:

Coconut removal……..could it be the answer to America’s job woes?

Major factors in favor of a trillion dollare Coconutilus:

    – many Obamy groupies will be able to do the job with minimal training
    – DC is overgrown with coconuts

  4. BigOil says:

Completely unnecessary. In a collision of coconuts, I believe the big eared coconut would disintegrate the falling coconut.

    The mind boggles…

    • canary says:

Rusty, they had to scrub the roads because of their sacred cow ancestors’ waste. Goat eyeballs on the menu. Porn for entertainment. Can’t wait for Obama bowing pics.

Part of the local job saving/creating stimulus plan…..O will undoubtably be picking up pointers about “shovel ready jobs”.

I love my Indian friends. Of course I’ve met all of them here in the U. S. But, really, though India is showing Pakistan and other Third World countries how to get ahead, India is still immensely backward. Question: Thanks to Obama, these are the people beating us economically? See http://www.wimp.com/indiatraffic/

Maybe he could demonstrate the ‘Down Dog.’

Or better yet, he could demonstrate the ‘bend over and grab your ankles’ yoga move.

Just came over from a site viewed by way of Ann Coulter…www.bbc.co.uk/news/health where I read the whole article and Steve left out some of the best parts….”Mahatma Ghandi has been cited by the President as an inspiration to him” and President Obama once famously said he would like to have dinner with Mr. Ghandi” but then the question arises as to whether Mr. Ghandi could have taught the President just how detestable an arrogant, overbearing, overreaching, unresponsive government really is?

  9. Mae says:

The Mahatma’s “truth force” would have a cow, if I may be so bold as to disrespect sacred bovines. My favorite Gandhi quote: “Freedom of the individual is at the root of all progress.” Oh yeah, Obama is comfortable with that! And no specially prepared beef for dinner, either.

And how’s this fer ya: “Government control gives rise to fraud, suppression of Truth, intensification of the black market and artificial scarcity. Above all, it unmans the people and deprives them of initiative, it undoes the teaching of self-help…I look upon an increase in the power of the State with the greatest fear because, although while apparently doing good by minimizing exploitation, it does the greatest harm to mankind by destroying individuality which lies at the heart of all progress.”
