Code Pink ‘Brutalized’ At Israel Protest

From the (odious) Huffington Post:

An activist dressed as the Grim Reaper demonstrates in front of Israel’s separation barrier during a protest of Israeli and foreign activists from the Israeli Coalition of Women for Peace and the international feminist organization Code Pink, against Israel’s blockade of the Gaza Strip, at the Erez border crossing between Israel and Gaza, in southern Israel, Tuesday June 9, 2009.

Israeli Police and Military Brutalize Peaceful Protesters at Netanyahu’s Speech

June 15, 2009

Ann Wright

While Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was making a major foreign policy speech at Tel Aviv University Sunday, Israeli police outside the university attacked international protesters of Israel’s invasion of Gaza, illegal settlements and the apartheid wall.

Heavy-handed police treatment of the unarmed, peaceful members of the CODEPINK delegation there began immediately after they unfurled several pink banners that read "Free Gaza" and "End the Occupation."

CODEPINK co-founder Medea Benjamin and New York activist Zool Zulkowitz were physically dragged across the street from their original protest site next to the entrance gate to Bar Ilan University where audience members and press entered the university complex to attend the speech.

Several hours later, a French journalist and member of the CODEPINK delegation, was arrested as she crossed a small street in an attempt to take photos of the demonstration. As she was placed in an Israeli police car, several members of the delegation converged to determine why the journalist was being held.

Israeli police and military violently shoved the group back into a wall. Delegation member Tighe Barry from Santa Monica, Cali. was struck in the face with the butt of a military rifle and pushed to the ground where he could barely breathe. He was taken by ambulance to the Trauma Center of Tal-Hashomer hospital in Tel Aviv where he was treated for a concussion, an injured neck and an asthma attack. Benjamin and several other delegation members were bruised in the arms and upper body from being shoved and manhandled by the police and military.

The journalist was taken to a local police station and released an hour later without charges. Mr. Barry was treated overnight at the hospital.

The CODEPINK delegation has requested the Israeli police and military investigate the brutality used by their forces on the peaceful, non-violent protesters.

When President Obama spoke in Cairo on June 4, a separate CODEPINK delegation that had just returned from six days in Gaza in early June, held a demonstration right outside Cairo University holding signs that read "Stop funding Israeli War Crimes." Egyptian police allowed the demonstration to take place.

But not so in Israel.

"Is this the great democracy that the U.S. taxpayers pay for with $3 billion dollars a year?" Benjamin cried, as she was being dragged away by the police.

Ann Wright is a retired US Army Reserves Colonel and a former U.S. diplomat who resigned in March, 2003 in opposition to the Iraq war. She served in Nicaragua, Grenada, Somalia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Sierra Leone, Micronesia, and Mongolia. She was on a small State Department team that reopened the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan in December, 2001. She has visited Gaza three times in the past three months, co-leading two delegations of more than 120 persons.

People are being gunned down in Iran for demonstrating for the right to have their votes counted.

And this is what (the professional agitators) Code Pink and the rest of the American left are worried about?

By the way, lest we forget, Code Pink has happily gone into business with the Iranian government.

They have their priorities.

Also by the way, notice that even while Huffington Post prints Ms. Wright’s biography, it neglects to mention that she is a member of Code Pink and has worked with them for many years.

This is what they call ‘journalism.’

Queue Obama’s speech equating the action taken here with that taken in Iran.

I’m so glad – not about the violence – but that we’re getting to the root of this finally. Netanyahu’s speech was heralded as Israel finally embracing a Palestinian state, but it wasn’t anything like that. That speech was a big “*bleep* you Obama” followed by a challenge to him to tell the world what he really thinks when they have those shoe sole telephone conversations. He had one sane and rational request: that Israel be recognized as legitimate. And the first thing we hear today from Middle East leaders is “*bleep* you Israel.” Now Obama has to move forward by effectively choosing a side, and he’s afraid to admit the one we all know he’s chosen! He’s afraid to admit it but Wright is out there toting the “truth” in books that operate on the very same premise as Code Pink while Iranian protesters are getting shot by the people whom he’s diplomatically defending! The World Apology Tour of Foreign Policy like most of the Obama Doctrine right now is on the verge of utter collapse after a few ‘harmless’ speeches and meekly feigned reports of success.

Thank you! I don’t think it’s so unreasonable to ask that your “peace partner” recognize your right to exist. All of this malarkey about “Netenyahu endorses Palestinian Independence” et al is total male cow excrement. It’s just another way for our lame MSM to come back a few months from now pointing the finger and say, “But YOU said you SUPPORTED it…waaah” What Netenyahu essentially did was expose Hamas, Fatah, et al for the cowardly thug terrorists they are. Instead of coming right out and saying, “Screw you,” he basically told them, “Yeah, I’ll negotiate… when you completely abandon every ideal your Jew hating, Islamo-facist terrorist organizations were founded on.” He knows they’ll never do it. And he comes out looking great by being the “reasonable” one.

  2. proreason says:

Gee, one would think Code Pink would be protesting against the side that causes the violence, rather than the side that the violence is directed at.

It’s almost like the thing they are “anti” isn’t war at all.

  3. silver charm says:

    “and an asthma attack”

An Asthma attack? Oh for heavens sake. Sounds more like a hissy fit.

I can just see him, shrieking and flailing on the ground the second the officer makes eye contact with him, grasping at his pink panties in one hand and his recorder and love beads in the other.

  4. wardmama4 says:

Come over here Ms Wright – and I will show you brutalized – I got a real life picture that will give you nightmares for a long, long time. What a crock of bs.

The area over there is a hot bed of cultural and religious hatred and the only country that has been willing to negotiate and give up concessions (not to mention that allows all citizens to worship as they please) and perhaps the only country in that region run with democratic elections and sane people is the one all those on the left belittle, call evil and spit upon –

Ms Benjamin would be living in her ideal spot of the World – Cuba – but even they can’t tolerate her agitation and sent her packing.

  5. wirenut says:

Only one question I can think of . Why did the Israeli authorities wait till the pinks unfurled their banners? I would have sent the “Welcome Wagon” right to the airport luggage rack.

  6. Liberals Demise says:

They needed to grind a few more of those fugly mugs with military style rifles!! Damn sure wouldn’t hurt their appearance any!!
I sure they’d complain if they protested at the target impact area of a rifle range.

Oh, btw Ms. Benjamin ………..$3 Billion dollars a year may buy some democracy but it won’t keep your ass from being dragged away by the police!!
    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

    • David says:

Supporting democracy in the middle east … $3 Billion dollars
Watching Pinkos get a taste of 1/100th the violence they support around the world… priceless!

“a separate CODEPINK delegation that had just returned from six days in Gaza in early June, held a demonstration right outside Cairo University holding signs that read “Stop funding Israeli War Crimes.” Egyptian police allowed the demonstration to take place.”

Gee, what were the odds that Egypt would allow an anti Israeli protest in Cairo? Egypt, where the local papers routinely print garbage about Jews devouring babies and the blood of their enemies.

I’ve been to Israel. The soldiers there have to deal with freakin’ suicide bombers, and they certainly shouldn’t be expected to suffer out-of-touch, whiny foreign protesters hurling insults and them, their service, and their country.

  8. 12 Gauge Rage says:

Medea Benjamin is an idiot. She foolishly thought that since we support Israel the Israeli’s therefore must somehow mirror our own government with the right to free speech/protest. And when she screams outrage at being led away her very words point out how much this woman and her group are way in over their heads with the IDF. She’s nothing more than a stupid idiot who travels abroad, gets into trouble with the local authorities, and then screams ‘You can’t do this to me. I’m an American!’ As if that ever carried any weight to begin with.

  9. neocon mom says:

Reminds me of former Representative Cynthia McKinney alleging having been brutalized by the Capitol police.

Benjamin ought to try going to Iran to protest some of their policy.

Ain’t it something how the only governments these codepinkos try to agitate against are the freest, most advanced nations? Of course she wasn’t expecting that to happen; bullies are usually surprised when somebody stands up and bloodies their nose.

Perhaps this really did happen though. Was it really out of proportion in a country where terrorism is such a daily threat? Perhaps instead of arguing with such inane, infantile ideas like “war is never the answer” they wanted to demonstrate just how rapid and effective the mere butt of a rifle can be in quelling conflict. Then they turned around and took him by ambulance to a hospital where he received lifesaving treatment for his asthma attack (I would personally have traveled with my inhaler).

“a separate CODEPINK delegation that had just returned from six days in Gaza in early June, held a demonstration right outside Cairo University holding signs that read “Stop funding Israeli War Crimes.” Egyptian police allowed the demonstration to take place.”

Wow, how big of them, an Arab country permitting a protest against America and Israel. Surprised it wasn’t front page news, really.

  10. BatK says:

I had to laugh. You’re not in Kansas anymore, kids. And I have no doubt the actions of the Code Pinkers is being minimized/left out… been to Israel… never felt safer in my life… would take quite a bit to get that sort of reaction from an IDF soldier… and perhaps these code pink clowns forget all of the technology, intelligence, weaponry, and training we get from Israel…

I liken it to this… the annoying younger sibling who gets up in your face and says, “I’m not touching you, I’m not touching you.. I’m not … OW! I’m telling! Mo-oooooom!”

  11. xomorrison says:

I can go for hours on this subject. I lived in Israel– and worked in the West Bank– for a long enough time to know that something really outrageous or just plain stupid was done to agitate IDF soldiers, particularly in sensitive areas like the WB and the Gaza border, where these activists planted their sorry behinds. Once you get in their faces or don’t follow commands, well, you get what you deserve– especially in a place as sensitive to Israel’s security as the Erez crossing. Any soldier of any army would have a similar– or worse– reaction. Anyone with half a brain knows this piece is activist journalism.
It’s already been established that peace organizations bend their own rules when it comes to Israel and cannot be taken seriously. Everyone from codeBULL to the U.N. has tiptoed around their own standards in order to specifically indict Israel on some sort of war charge. (I wonder why they’re not going out to Sudan to protest Bashir’s human rights abuses.) Sometimes, I feel like I’m the only one in the world who understands that “peace” organizations will not be satisfied until Israel is dissolved.
The “apartheid wall” reduced terrorist attacks in Jerusalem originating from the West Bank by almost 100%. But of course, Israel is the bloodthirsty fear-monger. Just throwing that out there.

  12. canary says:

The Palestines are protesting w/ Code Pink, and that makes them extremely dangerous and threatening to the Israel. These adults are endangering children.
This one idiot that keeps singing and shouting on the bull horn says “please let us go home and tell “our” Obama you are peaceful. Like Obama is their god.
vidio show’s their stupidity and idiot trying to have asthma attack.

    • Liberals Demise says:

Didn’t look like asthma to me. Looked like a good dose of tear gas that made this weeble-wobble!! It wouldn’t surprise me in the least to find out that this male(?) code pinker wasn’t a obama plant (as in vegetable).

    • canary says:

It was not tear gas. They are called “sound” smoke bombs. Even with a gas mask on, tear gas would burn the exposed skin, and they’d run. It’s a hoot that the cross-dresser, on the bull-horn keeps saying if you quit shooting at us we’ll leave. duh. Just propaganda for their video’s.

  13. Liberals Make Great Speedbumps says:

I know it’s been pointed out a thousand times before but I just love how these “brave” protesters of the left only protest where it is safe to do so.

  14. bronzeprofessor says:

Code Pink is full of very strange women. At my university the grad students organized a conference and a Code Pink poet was the keynote speaker. She bragged about showing up at people’s speeches and interrupting them, throwing red paint on them, and sabotaging their ability to speak. The Code Pink woman saw no contradiction in the fact that she stifles other people’s speech, which is especially problematic now that she’s allied to the party in power.

At this point, in the US at least, they are brownshirts.

  15. Right of the People says:

I’m really surprised that Israel even let these whackadoodles into their country. It’s amazing how people like this travel abroad to denigrate the US with their protests but the first thing they scream when confronted by the local law enforcement it that they are Americans and you can’t do this because they have rights. These morons don’t realize that the moment they leave the US, they are fair game. I have always thought when we get someone from another country who breaks our laws they ought to get the same rights as they have at home, not rights that American citizens have. It frosts my nether regions when I apprehend an illegal and the first thing they say is “I want a lawyer, I know my rights.” Like that is something they’re told to say.

  16. jrmcdonald says:

Netanyahu should push the ‘Palestinian state’ and the code pink loons into the sea.

  17. JulieJ says:

I hope they were “brutallized”. They need to see the movie “TheStoning of Soraya, M.”about an Iranian woman who was stoned to death. In Iran when they say “let’s all get stoned” they mean that literally. Medea Benjamin is an Islamofascist loving commie. Period.
