Bin Laden remained active in targeting U.S.: official

By David Alexander Sat May 7, 2011

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The compound in Pakistan where U.S. forces killed Osama bin Laden was an active command center from which he directed al Qaeda, a senior intelligence official said on Saturday as he released videos showing bin Laden watching himself on tape and rehearsing speeches…

"This compound in Abbottabad was an active command and control center for al Qaeda’s top leader and it’s clear … that he was not just a strategic thinker for the group," the official said. "He was active in operational planning and in driving tactical decisions."

From the video tapes and other photos from the compound we can certainly see that this was a state of the art "command and control center." We even saw Mr. Bin Laden’s remote control for his satellite dish.

By the way, did you notice that in other photos, the satellite menu showed that Bin Laden’s favorite TV channel was Al Jazeera? So his tastes are just like Mr. Obama’s and Hillary’s.

The official released five video clips of bin Laden taken during the raid, most of them showing the al Qaeda leader, his beard dyed black, evidently rehearsing the videotaped speeches he occasionally distributed to his followers.

Instead of ‘Grecian Formula’ we now have ‘Islamic Formula’ – Just For Muslims. Still, if Bin Laden had had more advanced teleprompter technology, he wouldn’t have needed to rehearse his speeches so much.

The videos were released without sound.

The intelligence official said the sound had been stripped because the United States did not want to transmit bin Laden’s propaganda. He said they contained the usual message "condemning U.S. policy and denigrating capitalism."

So there is yet another similarity with Bin Laden and Obama and Hillary.

The intelligence official’s portrayal of bin Laden as an active threat to the United States followed several missteps by the Obama administration in its handling of news about the raid that killed the al Qaeda leader

This is what as known as British understatement.

The administration’s changing story marred what was otherwise a major intelligence victory for Washington.

But it has been a wonderful distraction from the rest of the news. Almost as good as the ‘birther’ controversy.

One of the videos released on Saturday was a "complete, yet unreleased" bin Laden tape he describes as "a message to the American people," the intelligence official said.

The video was believed to have been produced between October 9 and November 5, 2010, he said, adding it was unclear why it had not yet surfaced publicly

Perhaps Mr. Bin Laden decided he didn’t want to influence the mid-term elections. He probably saw that the Tea Party was going to do too well as it was.

Another segment showed a gray-bearded bin Laden in a more casual setting wrapped in a blanket and apparently wearing a ski cap while watching videotapes of himself

It’s going to be a lot harder for the media to continue calling Osama Bin Laden ‘charismatic’ after we have seen that clip of him watching TV wrapped in a blanket.

"The videos make clear that bin Laden remained active in al Qaeda’s terrorist propaganda operations, especially in shaping his own image," the official said

Really? Bin Laden was not quite ‘Number One’ of James Bond’s nemesis, Specter. Indeed, he looks almost like a homeless person. And the compound in general looks like a poorly maintained crack house, especially with all the food and clothing strewn about.

"The materials reviewed over the past several days clearly show that bin Laden remained an active leader in al Qaeda, providing strategic, operational and tactical instructions to the group," the official said.

"He was far from a figurehead. he was an active player."

Absolutely. After all we can’t have Mr. Obama killing somebody who wasn’t a major player, can we?

That wouldn’t be heroic.

Well well….Spike finally has his own Tojo.

And just in time. The bunish has long since worn off George W. Bush as the demon of the ages.

I’m so disappointed in OBL still using a CRT instead of a flat screen. That is so 90s!

Given the high-tech nature of this “command & control” center, I now understand why the Pakistan Space Program is doing so well.

In all fairness, all that’s needed for any “c&c” center is to have a means of gathering information and effective and expedient communication. The type of operation determines the type of information gathering needed.

Who’s willing to bet that in the coming weeks, we’ll get wind of OBL’s internet account(s)? And…cellphone records.

Meanwhile the PM of Pock-ee-stahn is feigning outrage at the lack of respect of sovereignty by the US in doing such a thing. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/05/09/pakistan-backlash-mounts-does-opportunity-new-terror-targets/

Methinks he doth protest too loudly (as in CYOAF, too loudly). And the US gubberment is saying they didn’t want to tell the PM for fear of tipping off OBL. I can see that and it’s certainly believable. But I suspect that either they WERE told or if they weren’t, there was any number of other reasons. Not that I’m a conspiracy theorist but it’s just been proven over and over again that just below the surface with anything of the obamaflavor, there is some agenda, some deception and a reason that makes absolutely no sense….except to a socialist.
