Honesty and Ethics Poll Finds Congress’ Image Tarnished

PRINCETON, NJ — For the first time in Gallup’s annual Honesty and Ethics of Professions poll, a majority of Americans — 55% — say the honesty and ethical standards of "members of Congress" are low or very low — slightly worse than "senators," whose ethics are rated low by 49%. By contrast, 83% of Americans say nurses have either very high or high ethical standards, positioning them at the top of Gallup’s 2009 ranking of various professions…

Bottom Line

Congress has long ranked among the worst-rated professions on Gallup’s annual Honesty and Ethics of Professions list. Now, it has earned the unwelcome distinction of having a majority of Americans rate its integrity as low or very low…

We’re not quite sure how this is news. Or why it should have taken so long for Gallup to notice.

And notice how Gallup’s chart still puts Congress above car salesmen, even though their aggregate number is lower.

By the way, note too who are at the very top of the Gallup rankings.

    There’s only one conceivable explanation for this poll.

    9% of the respondents must have been members of congress.

    What is the difference between Senators, Congressmen, Members of Congress and Representatives?

      Senators are criminals.

      Congressmen are con men.

      Members of Congress are crooks.

      Representatives are thieves.

    I’ll add that the congress critters won last place for the most people with a Low/Very Low opinion of them.

    And rightly so.

    So will someone PLEASE explain to me why these motherless sons of bitches are running the country and we can’t seem to get rid of them!

    Or are we really becoming a nation of incompetent excuse-making stumble bums?
