That’s one of the failings of our system of government: the people in charge are the only ones that can reign themselves in, and that never happens. I suppose in the beginning, it was assumed that office holders would be honest men who were conscious of the wishes of their constituency or had in mind what was best for the country. Of course, that’s the last thing on the mind of the overwhelming number of politicians nowadays.

I think they shouldn’t make a dime for what they do. If they want to continue to call it “public service”, it should be freely done. But who would make that decision? That’s right, the pols themselves. And the circle continues.

Congress voted themselves perpetual raises some time back. It used to be that they had to approve raises, now they are automatic unless they specifically vote to not have one.

They should be taken pay concessions, not a pay raise. But that is just my opinion as merely a peon known as “taxpaying susie Q”

If the American people don’t rise up in fury and demand that this further theft of taxpayer money be repealed, we will know our nation is finished. After what we have witnessed in the last few years, the massive corruption and ineptitude of Congress, there is no reason whatsoever to give them more money.

I fear that the people are ignorant, corrupt, and/or inept themselves. Perhaps Congress does perfectly represent a rotten electorate. Harry Reid’s recent comment about the “tourists” who stink up the Capitol would have brought furious condemnation 50 years ago.

We are probably witnessing the sunset of civilization as well as the death knell of the United States.

I don’t know why they bother to draw salaries.

After a couple of years in Congress, they are all wealthy beyond imagination.

Apparently, being in Congress hones investing skills to a fine edge. Whether the economy goes up or down, the net worth of Congress goes up like Tulips in Holland….without the downside.

I wish I could get a pay raise for sitting around doing nothing. Sounds like my kind of life. How do they manage to give themselves a pay raise, anyways? Just goes to show the hypocrisy that’s in our nation now-a-days.
