Conservatives Still Largest Ideology In US

From Gallup:

Conservatives Remain the Largest Ideological Group in U.S.

Overall, the nation has grown more polarized over the past decade

PRINCETON, NJ — Political ideology in the U.S. held steady in 2011, with 40% of Americans continuing to describe their views as conservative, 35% as moderate, and 21% as liberal. This marks the third straight year that conservatives have outnumbered moderates, after more than a decade in which moderates mainly tied or outnumbered conservatives.

So why do the polling organizations, such as Gallup, continue to oversample Democrats and ‘independents’?

The percentage of Americans calling themselves "moderate" has gradually diminished in the U.S. since it was 43% in 1992. That is the year Gallup started routinely measuring ideology with the current question. It fell to 39% in 2002 and has been 35% since 2010. At the same time, the country became more politically polarized, with the percentages of Americans calling themselves either "conservative" or "liberal" each increasing

Would Gallup call this ‘polarizing’ if liberals were increasing at a faster rate than conservatives?

The majority of Republicans say they are either very conservative or conservative, but the total proportion of conservatives grew 10 percentage points between 2002 and 2010, from 62% to 72%

As recently as 2002, the solid plurality of Democrats were "moderate," while smaller, but nearly equal, percentages called themselves "liberal" and "conservative." From 2003 through 2007, the liberal share of the party grew to 38%, while the "moderate" and "conservative" percentages each diminished somewhat…

This is great news, of course. In fact, given our culture, it is little short of amazing.

Just imagine how conservative this country would be if we had a level playing field. Imagine if the entire establishment, the news media, the entertainment industry, the educational system, the publishing field, were not all lockstep radical liberals?

Just imagine if we were allowed to hear more of the truth.

To me, this is nothing more than an excursion into P.C. speak. Moderate = OWS crowd, Liberal = even worse. Conservative = largely unpracticed. If Gallup wants me to be giddy and stay home. I say, nope!
Just another dog turd wrapped in bacon. It may look good, but I ain’t bite’n.
