Cops Block Press From Anti-Obama Rally

From Ben Smith at the Politico:

Most transparent White House ever…

Ben Smith

April 20, 2010

Police chased reporters away from the White House and closed Lafayette Park today in response to a gay rights protest in which several service members in full uniform handcuffed themselves to the White House gate to protest "Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell."

People who have covered the White House for years tell me that’s an extremely unusual thing to do in an area that regularly features protests.

A reporter can be seen in the YouTube video above calling the move "outrageous" and "ridiculous."

This is pretty serious stuff when it makes one of the White House’s most devoted minion complain.

But of course, Mr. Smith was quick to print a clarification:

UPDATE: U.S. Parks Police spokesman David Schlosser tells POLITICO his service erred in pushing the reporters back, and stressed that the White House played no role in the move.

"That was strictly the U.S. Parks Police that screwed up – that has nothing to do with the Secret Service of the White House or the Administration," said Sergeant Schlosser. "We had some young officers who, when they were told to move the people back — which we typically do when we’re going to make arrests – they moved the people back a lot further than we typically do. That was a rookie, amateur error and they screwed up on that."

Ah, it was all a mistake.

But should the Park Police be using the such terms as “rookie” and “amateur error”?

That sounds like some of that dangerous anti-government talk, for sure.

Photographers pushed back away from obvious photo-op.

I have never seen such manicured, clean, pressed gay protesters organized in such a careful way—all branches of the military represented—so that they can get an unfettered photo ‘chained’ to the White House fence. (and not arrested and beaten like other people)

I wonder how, where, when this photo will pop-up for propaganda purposes. I guess you heckle at a speech, you get your propaganda piece set up for you….

    Rookie mistake?

    I’ll say.

A couple of broken kneecaps would have been much more effective, and you wouldn’t hear any “journalists” squawking either.

ex-Sergeant Schlosser will be in a re-education camp tomorrow.

This seemingly minor incident struck me as an ominous preview of potentially ugly times ahead.

That cop is not a rookie and he appears to be under strict orders. There is clearly no reason for the cop to be pushing the crowd around. How long until someone asserts their right to stand on public property, not breaking any laws, and takes a nightstick upside the head? Not long I’m afraid.

    ““rookie” and “amateur error”?”

    Are they meaning Obama?

Obama’s no rookie or amateur…….he’s a major league f#@*-up! If Obama and Biden were a poker hand, it’d take a full house to beat that pair.

Relax, Obama is taking his time until rumors floating around him, wind down.
