Coulter Called Gore “A Fag” - Why No Outrage?

Come along with me if you will, to a time long ago. Well, actually just a few months ago. But apparently it was a more innocent age:

On the July 27, 2006 edition of MSNBC’s Hardball, host Chris Matthews asked Ann Coulter, “How do you know that [former President] Bill Clinton is gay?” — referring to her comment the night before on CNBC’s The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch that Clinton “show[s] some level of latent homosexuality.”

Coulter responded, “I don’t know if he’s gay. But [former Vice President] Al Gore — total fag.”

She went on to defend her theory about Clinton’s sexuality by stating that “everyone has always known, widely promiscuous heterosexual men have, as I say, a whiff of the bathhouse about them.”

Coulter claimed she was “just kidding” about Gore, but said of her theory about Clinton, “It’s not only not a joke, it’s not even surprising.”

As the world now knows, Ann Coulter made a similar joke at CPAC a couple of days ago. But this time our watchdog media were looking for dirt from CPAC, so they latched upon her joke, and pretended she was calling Edwards a faggot — and of course indulging in hate speech.

But where was their outrage last July?

Meanwhile, if you are looking for a way to strike back:

Godless: The Church of Liberalism

This is a link to Amazon, which has all of Ms. Coulter’s books, if you already have this one. And of course they make great gifts as well.

Also, by using this link, S&L gets back a modest kickback of two or three cents per purchase. So it is a win-win all around.

Too funny. Everyone laughed by little miss smarty pants.

This CPAC thing has just got out of hand. A friend that commented on my blog equated using the term faggot with the “n” word and the derogatory “c” word when referring to women. I disagree. I think the term faggot could be equated with other terms such as slut and whore, which before long will be on the “don’t you dare use this term” list.

  2. wardmama4

I guess it is ok to call algored a fag but not one the dem ‘hopefull’ candadates - Edwards.
Even though she didn’t call him a fag - but I digress.

It is just typical liberal stuff - point out the speck in the conservatives eye while ignoring the beam in their own.

[It is also a way to paint conservatives as mean, nasty and oh so hypocritical]

Meanwhile they say anything they want and scream - joke, misunderstood, I meant to say, or free speech if and when anyone even tries to bring it up.

Now that David Geffen has abandoned Hillary, it’s no wonder Geffen and Bubba are often at odds with each other. That happens when you get two bitchy queens in the same room.

When Bubba and Hill stayed at the Geffen estate, you could call that a sleepover. When he went there alone, the more apt term was a layover.

Geffen left him for a younger man.

Ann Coulter is mean and nasty and that is her stock in trade-people who like her like it and those who don’t don’t. When our newspaper put out a list of four conservative writers from which we could vote on the one we wanted to see in our paper I knew that Ann was going to be the choice. Frankly, I did not want any of the ones on the list so I e-mailed my personal list which included Steyn, Sowell, Krauthammer and a person that not many know whom I think is a great thinker and writer-her name is Marianne Jennings and she is a professor of law and ethics at Arizone State University and the mother of three, one of whom is profoundly brain damaged (she has a flat EEG) and still has made it to her l8th (I think) birthday with the loving care of her family. If I were to send in my suggestions today I would add Claudia Rosett and Clarice Feldman but I was not familiar with them at the time. Well, our paper chose Molly for the left column and Ann for the right column and everyone knows why. They are (or in Molly’s case, were)both outrageous and over the top and manage to offend many with every word they write. I know many conservatives who are embarrassed by Ann and many who love her spirit. I wish she wouldn’t call anyone a faggot even those who are gay-it is a nasty word but like the blacks who use the forbidden words among themselves it is one that the gays use among themselves (and even worse because they seem to be little snips themselves) JMO

Here are a couple of slightly paraphrased definitions by Orwell:
crimethink - To even consider any thought not in line with the principles of PC. Doubting any of the principles of PC. All crimes begin with a thought. So, if you control thought, you can control crime. “Thoughtcrime is death, Thoughtcrime does not entail death, Thoughtcrime is death…. The essential crime that contains all others in itself.”

crimestop - “The faculty of stopping short, as though by instinct, at the threshold of any dangerous thought. It includes the power of not grasping analogies, of failing to perceive logical errors, of misunderstanding the simplest arguments if they are inimical to PC, and of being bored or repelled by any train of thought which is capable of leading in a heretical direction. In short….. protective stupidity.”

Would there be any agreement as to them being relevant to the situation?

  6. rocketman

Please, can someone tell me what RD is trying to say here…
“whom I think is a great thinker and writer-her name is Marianne Jennings and she is a professor of law and ethics at Arizone State University and the mother of three, one of whom is profoundly brain damaged (she has a flat EEG) and still has made it to her l8th (I think) birthday with the loving care of her family. “

Just what does this have to do with Ann Coulter??? This reminds me of a raving nutcase I heard on a talk show last night out of Seattle, when asked a simple question about gobal warming, he ranted on and on for about three mins and ended up talking about the war in Iraq… He never did acknowledge or answer the question..ever notice this tactic of the libs???

  7. retire05

So the party that make making snide remarks about anyone on the right, from the President on down, into an art form is now showing outrage?
    Screw ‘em.
When the left denounces Cindy Sheehan for wanting to go back in time and kill our president when he was a baby and stops standing on the podium with her while she rants, I might pay attention to what they are saying. When the left denounces Bill Maher for saying that people would still be alive (yeah, Bill all those terrorists you have sympathy for) if someone had taken our Vice President out and stops doing spots on his shows, I might pay attention to what they are saying. When the left denounces Michael Moore sitting next to an ex-DEMOCRAT president at their national convention and says that he doesn’t speak for them, I might pay attention to what they are saying.

Right wing bloggers are falling all over themselves denoucing Coulter because she made a quip about the Breck Girl. Romney and Rudy are both making apologies for Coulter, putting distance between them and her. God forbid that we conservative might be thought of as anything but NICE people. We may lose elections because the left says anything they want to and we don’t call them down on it, but we are nice people. Are they that stupid? Do they not know what Howie Dean is doing? It is called deflection. It the MSM are talking about what Coulter says, they are not paying attention to the crap put out by the left. Gramsci would be proud.
I am not going to apologize for Coulter. I didn’t say the line. I didn’t ask her to say the line. And since I am conservative, I believe in personal responsiblity. If Coulter wants to apologize, that is up to her. But until the left can speak from a moral high ground I say,
    SCREW THEM.

  8. RD

You’re right Rocketman that was a pretty lame post all the way through taking up the site hosts bandwidth without answering his question-”where’s the outrage” I don’t know where the outrage is but I just think there are better thinkers than Ann Coulter to present the conservative point of view which might be more persuasive to moderates if you didn’t offend them first-sorry I offended you.

  9. retire05

RD, just think of Ann Coulter as the right’s “carbon” offset to Cindy Sheehan. If it were not for Coulter, Sheehan would have to have her power outage.

  10. rocketman

RD - You didn’t offend me. I was just wondering what “your point” was. Marianne may very well be a wonderful writer as you mentioned. Her family life, as Retire05 stated above was a deflection.

I think the biggest misunderstanding about Coulter is that too many on both sides have thin skins and do not recognize her ‘tongue & cheek” style. Everyone is waiting just to pounce on someone who says something they do not like. As Retire05 said SCREW ‘EM.

  11. Voice of Reason

    Who cares?

Not me……he prolly is gay. Too damned concerned with his doo for the dudes I roll with. So screw em. He has about as much chance of beating Hillary or Obama in the primaries as SJ. Sorry dude……hate to break it to you…….but you will NOT be the Democratic nominee for President in ‘08.

But a Repub ticket of you and 1st with the slogan, “Screw em all, if you ain’t American, eat sh*t and die” would have my support. Especially if you appointed Ann Sec of State. Let the millies on the left chew on that one for a while.

I have been watching all weekend and it is like non-stop on this story and not a peep about Bill Mahr. Don’t know why I do…….my wife says it is my natural cantankerous side…..but I watch this POS. Two weeks ago the Somali woman who wrote Infidel took him, Darryl Issa and one of the fruit loops from Wings apart. She is so soft spoken but she hammered him every time he opened his yap. I have it TiVoed and have watched it 4 times and cheer every time. If it replays in reruns later in the year you must catch it. After she hands him his ass….David Mamet puts the coup de grace on him in a sat. interview about his two books. Well worth the hour……but fast forward through him and Joe Biden back slapping each other. These two are quite possibly the smugest men on the planet. Full of verbage and devoid of insight. A mile wide and an inch deep. I would love to catch Billy on the street…..I would give him a short lesson in the meaning of the word respect. But anyways….I am still waiting on the “hate speech” headline about his Cheney quips. But not holding my breath.

    Ann - You go girl.

  12. Rip Cord

I “heart” “Ann Coulter. She isn’t afraid of these bastards. She is not going to dry hump the leg of Political Correctness and God bless her. We need more of her and her like. Can anyone tell me why we should have to put up with James Carvilles crap?!?!

  13. Warmonger Infidel

Sorry posters, I haven’t had much time to post lately due to work schedules, but once in a while when something/someone pushes a button, I have to take time to post. This is one of those times…..

About 8 months ago here, there was much discussion about all things Ann Coulter. Some here think she’s the greatest thing since sliced bread, and others, well we didn’t/don’t think she’s that great. And those of us that don’t, well it’s for a lot of reasons, not necessarily because of her “over the top” speeches. Hell I think a few of the guys, which will remain annonymous, even have sexual fantasies about her. I, being one of her non-fans, deferred to the majority and promised I wouldn’t post negative things about her in the future. I fact, I declared I would just ignore any Ann threads.

And now I find myself having to say something about her latest “joke” at CPAC. It was just too much to ignore on so many levels. And by the way, I have asbestos skin, so flame all you want.

There comes a time in the politics of our country that we have to start view the politics as a business. Conservatives are in the business of getting other conservatives, with like minds elected and liberals are trying to do the same. So if we look at politics in that light, with Ann being one of our sales-persons, we have to evaluate as her bosses just how she is doing selling our product. I’m going to use car sales by General Motors as my example. Ann is a sales-person for GM in this case. You, me, or anyone else that’s a great fan of GM cars will eat up anything she says about them, be it true or not. Because we want to by from GM, just like we want to elect conservatives. Ann does a great job of convincing people that already love GM to buy more of the products. She can say anything she wants about them, and “we” still buy. Ann does that very well, I must admit, with most conservative voters. “We”, well most of us or most of you, love her and what she says. Truth is, it isn’t very hard to be a successful sales-person when the only people you are selling to already love your product. That’s the easy part.

The hard part is selling GM to someone that doesn’t necessarily love Fords, but has bought them in the past because of some promotion, or something that caught their eye about the product. This person is not committed to any brand, but is willing to listen to the sales-person’s pitch about either brand. Willing to have the sales-person tell them what is good about their product, and listen to the competitor’s pitch about their’s. Now two dynamics come into play. The first is how you turn off a buyer sitting on the fence. You do it by not explaing the advantages of buying GM, telling them how good and what kind of great features the latest GM product has, but by not mentioning these good attributes at all. You turn off the buyer when you ignore the good in your product and start tearing down any, and every thing about the Fords being sold across the street. You know what I’m talking about, because most of you have probably turned and walked on sales-people who have done this to you…..be it cars, kitchen appliances or a pair of shoes. So when it comes to sales to people who aren’t already committed to a particular product (or canidate/party in our business), Ann does all the wrong things for all the wrong reasons. She doesn’t sell conservatism or conservative candidates for what they are, she attacks the competition. And she does it in a way that even those of us who hate political correctness, but still try to maintain some sense of decency or fairness in our dealings with the other side in this county, will revolt against her. I’m one of those. The way to sell your product is to sell your product. Know it well, believe in it and sell it for what it is. That’s the other dynamic and it’s been a very successful business plan for a very long time.

There was nothing to be gained by what she said about Edwards, and the word she used in referring to him. Nothing. Nothing at all. The best thing you CAN say about him is also nothing at all. Just ignore him. He is a non-viable candidte for the nomination. He brings nothing to the table politically. Hell he couldn’t even get reelected to the Senate in his home state. So ignore him and he can do us no harm. There was only animosity from the left and right to be gained. She garnered no votes for the conservative cause by saying that. In fact, she probably caused some fence-sitters to jump to the other side by saying it. Not many you say? It doesn’t take many in the divided world we live in to lose an election. The other side does it all the time you say? So what? Just because they do it doesn’t make it right. I could use a line my mother used to tell me 60 years ago, but I’ll let you figure out what that might have been. Ann Coulter cost the republican party and the conservative cause votes at CPAC. If you all want to applaud that, then you have a political death wish. You would have thought she would have learned something by her Jersey Girls remarks last year. Nothing to be gained but ill-will, and a lot to lose.

We aren’t talking about trying to get hard-core liberals to vote for our candidates. That’s not going to happen, ever. We are talking about those independant and undecided voters the republican candidate will need to get elected in 2008. With friends like Ann Coulter, we don’t need enemies. And we damn sure don’t need to be acting like childish liberals when it comes to name-calling by our very public party members.

I know, from SG’s previous comments, that Ann sometimes reads our comments. Are you listening Ann? Do yourself and the rest of us conservatives a favor and tone it down please. Either that or shut it down. You aren’t helping the cause.

  14. kelsie25

Ann Coulter is great–she’s intelligent and I like that she doesn’t worry about offending people. But Warmonger is right. Comments like this don’t help the cause. They give liberals “proof” of conservatives’ bigotry. Has anyone read Huffington Post readers’ reactions? They’re so backward. They talk about how unacceptable it is to attack Edwards this way, and in the same breath call Ann the most vile things you can think of.

  15. Warmonger Infidel

kelsie and nodems…..thank you for getting what I was saying. Like SJ on the other thread concerning this “joke”, I really don’t give a hoot about what Ann Coulter says. She’s a lawyer first, which automatically puts her at the bottome of my favorites list. She has the right to say any damn thing she wants. I just think a lot of otherwise intelligent conservatives who, I guess the word could be worship, each and every thing she says are following her down the path to self-destruction of our message. I personally don’t like her because I don’t like her style, not necessarily what she says. He voice and manner of speech makes me want to run and cover my ears in a very quite place, regardless of her message. But that’s just a personal thing with me. To me, she comes off like some valley girl in southern mexifornia. But……no matter how some will defend her, at the end of the day she is hurting the cause. The cause for conservative views on the GWOT, national defense, the economy and taxes. She does this by driving a very hard wedge between like minded conservatives, some who believe she is a “sexy, smart blond” and others who think she is just a loud mouth attention whore. I fall somewhere in between the two extremes.
As for the joke part, and the fact that she’s being defended on the basis of, as soon as she said it, she said she was just joking…..I remember the comments, mine included, about j-fing-kerry and his joke and about osamaobama when he made his statement about military lives wasted, and then followed up with….”I knew I made a mistake and shouldn’t have said that”. You can’t have it both ways folks. You can’t have a double standard and then accuse the other side of having that same double standard.

That’s all I”m going to say about it, but I would hope that those defending her classless, distasteful words would look at the big picture. As all of you know, my screen name pretty much says I’m right of Attila the Hun….doesn’t mean I have to be, or you have to be, trailer park trash at the same time.

  16. Chief

Somebody better let the offended Pretty Boy know that when the Islamic Radicals are prepping to cut your head off the last of your worries is them calling you a Fag.

  17. endzonekiller

Hey offended pretty boy, cut your head off, save the mussies the trouble.
War monger, I love you, but disagree, “Conservatives are in the business of getting other conservatives,”
I am not. That is the job of “born-again-conservatives.” I am in the business, like Ann, of telling it like it is.
Like you, I have a thick skin, but unlike you, I don’t think the gay word has anything productive to contrubute to humanity. They deserve no more special treatment than the Septic-system-Suckers Union does. Or that I or you do.

“Homosexuals are in the business of getting other people to become Homosexuals,” and that means young boys and girls.
Is that a good thing, bad thing or a no-point thing?

My feeling is, it is a bad thing.
Unlike the “feels good do it!” crowd, I have logic and well grounded social understandings why I say that. I wont bore with logic, it isn’t your strong point.

I follow the rule, “love the criminal but hate the crime, don’t be an enabler.”

Is it possible to resist the tide of homosexuality?
I really don’t care. I will die swimming against the tide. I don’t accept homosexuality as normal. Why? Same reason I don’t believe the sun rises. It doesn’t. The earth rotates.
Fags rotate, too, and that is the problem. We have just been hammered with fag-o-concepts for so long we think that it is normal.
