AP: Campaign tactics back as Obama presses health care
By Associated Press Writer Liz Sidoti Aug 15 2009

BIG SKY, Mont. – President Barack Obama is using political tactics and rhetorical devices honed in his White House campaign

town hall meetings where he rolls up his sleeves and discards his tie and jacket

Plus he’s got the bully pulpit, which he used Saturday. Obama.. “lower our voices..

Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch … “there is nothing un-American about disagreements. In fact, our great nation was founded on speaking our minds.”

Conservative activists and Obama opponents have stepped up their attacks in recent weeks — and may be outmaneuvering

The Democratic National Committee and Obama’s allies are spending millions on advertising campaigns to influence public opinion, much like they did last year… The White House is using Internet tools

Obama is trying to energize his estimated 13 million grass-roots supporters .. called Organizing for America…

In Pittsburgh, Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett.. Saturday at a conference.. the president can’t accomplish his goal without them.

..White House senior adviser David Axelrod asked supporters to forward a chain e-mail … White House also began a “Reality Check” Web site “to help Americans clear up health care lies and misinformation.”

The DNC has created a Web video — “What You Won’t See on National Cable News” — to highlight civil town hall meetings,

and Obama also plans to speak to backers by telephone during a health care event Wednesday.

past week, he’s fielded questions from audiences in Portsmouth, N.H., and Belgrade, Mont., and scheduled an event Saturday in Grand Junction, Colo., during his family’s tour of national parks.

Hours before the Colorado event, several hundred people gathered at a park to listen as a series of speakers criticized Obama’s approach.

AP writer Dan Nephin in Pittsburgh contributed to this report.

  2. Yarddog1 says:

Well – just another inane comment from a liberal, agorrant and bootlicking communist wannabe. Although I am from the South – despised by elitists – I would match my intellect with any of these empty heads. Some of us here are well educated, patriotic and determined to fight against the systematic dismantling of our country. To call concerned citizens exercising their rights to express their views afraid and ignorant is an insult. These fools are far removed from Americas heart and mind. And, if truth be known, they are the ones afraid and ignorant. You just keep on thinking that we lack determination and resolve and you just might be surprised.

    • Liberals Demise says:

Well versed and to the point, Yarddog 1.

They best heed the vocal outcry of the unwashed or they “will” fear the wraith!!

  3. catie says:

    What a b*tch. She’s clueless.

  4. VMAN says:

I’m sure Catie sits around day after day saying “Why are my ratings in the tank?” “Why aren’t people watching me?” Then she says “Screw them when Obama takes over I’ll be among the elite”

  5. 12 Gauge Rage says:

Who? I tend to forget that Miss Couric is even in existence until she says another one of her insignificant remarks. But hey, the First Amendment gives everyone the right to voice their opinion. Or in this case, make an out of touch ass of yourself.

  6. Bill R. says:

The guy didn’t bring the gun to the church. He was quite a ways away from there. As far as the swastika incident, someone was carrying an Obama as Hitler poster beforeRep Dingell’s (D MI) townhall. After the townhall, the same guy was handing out pro Obama literature. It was later revealed the guy was a union member and a democrat. In other words the guy was a plant. The next day, there was a swastika found painted at Rep. David Scott’s (D. Ga.) office. I wouldn’t be surprised if that was done by a D as well. Of course in Texas, we only have people posing as doctors. Katie is just another well paid partisan posing as a reporter. It’s no wonder her ratings were never any good. I never would have known about this except someone linked to it at AoSHQ. The MSM never says a word about any of it unless they have to, and even then they put the fools in the best possible light.

  7. proreason says:

    What a disgrace she is.

Like the Moron, she is willing to go down in flames for the ideology thats been washed into her little brain.

Nobody should ever turn to her channel again. Ever.

  8. BillK says:

Of course she’s right in one way:

    They are due to fear.

Fear of destroying the American health care system, the best in the world.

    Fear of being denied care.

Fear of seeing our parents being counseled to take their own lives rather than be a “burden on society.”

Fear of a Government that rations care despite ever more confiscatory taxes upon the “rich.”

Yeah, Katie, we have a lot to fear.

  9. BigOil says:

Another day, another lecture from an elitist liberal directed at all us un-American, Nazi, terrorist rubes. Keep it up for about the next year. Please.

  10. curvyred says:

She lost me when she whined about not having a vehicle for “serious journalism” despite the fact that she was on The Today Show for years – she is just another whiny liberal, and I certainly would not call her a journalist she left that behind years ago.

    From the AP:

Obama invokes grandmother’s death in health debate

By LIZ SIDOTI, Associated Press Writer Liz Sidoti, Associated Press Writer – 42 mins ago

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Now, it’s personal. President Barack Obama invoked his own anguish over the death of a loved one as he challenged the debunked notion that Democratic efforts to overhaul the nation’s health care would include “death panels.”

“I just lost my grandmother last year. I know what it’s like to watch somebody you love, who’s aging, deteriorate and have to struggle with that,” an impassioned Obama told a crowd as he spoke of Madelyn Payne Dunham. He took issue with “the notion that somehow I ran for public office or members of Congress are in this so they can go around pulling the plug on grandma.”

“mmmmm… I don’t reckon’ I like you and I aint’a listenin’ to you no more. mmmmm hmmm”

    • BigOil says:

Barry was so concerned with his Grandma’s health he didn’t visit her for the last year of her life – not until she was already on her death bed.

The desperation is showing through. He’s trying the BJ Clinton approach of shedding a tear on demand. Good luck pulling it off.

    • Celina says:

So he is bringing his dead grandmother out from under the bus that he threw her under during the campaign more than once.

      Class act, huh?

  12. Colonel1961 says:

    ‘Katie, you ignorant slut.’

  13. wirenut says:

Well Katty, that should settle this debate. The consensus of teleprompters has spoken. All that’s left is for Gomer, Goober and me is to head to the woodshed. GoshAllFishHooks!
Katty, we little people “get it”. That’s my we have a fear of a “consensus” of government. Katty looked better when the camera was in her colon. Sorry ,cheap shot.

  14. JadedByPolitics says:

Well actually Katie anyone watching your show is ignorantly fearful of the TRUTH!

  15. crosspatch says:

I am sure it was a hit with both of the viewers that bothered to tune in.

  16. gabester says:

Katie normally I would not say this of a member of the opposite sex, but frankly my dear you a b*tch. And that is puting it nicely.

  17. canary says:

Didn’t Obama’s grandmother have that stroke and fall, about the same time, he slandered and humiliated her in front of the entire world, playing his poor me, fake race card.

What that evil cold monster did to the woman who raised him, and never made any racial slur. His grandparensts never did. They bent over back word, pacifying the paranoid, everyone is looking at my skin, boo hoo, whiny sissy man. A whiny sissy man bullying an old feeble lady. He took her life, money, time, and just broke her heart into a million pieces.!!!!!
Obama broke his grandmother’s heart. It’s in her medical records.!!!!!

  18. canary says:

Katie did favors to get where’s she’s at. She has always been clueless. Didn’t she think to remove the flag in the background if she wanted to impress Obomies.

  19. Rusty Shackleford says:

“DC is Hollywood for ugly people”
“Hollywood is a bastion for liberals”
–But if you want to find a “liberal’s liberal” all you have to do is tune into the news at 6:30.

They are neither bright nor insightful. They have merely honed their 10th grade creative writing skills to a fine, albeit mundane “edge”. The problem is that they, themselves have ended up believing they are the only wizards who can do that trick before the king and thus be recognized for “revelation”.

Then, it goes on for such a period of time as certain types consider it a “long and illustrious career”. The biography of these types of people could be quite fascinating from a psychological standpoint, but alas, we will never know what they were really like since whomsoever would write it, would they, themselves be such a master of spin that all you’d get were things like “Katie, a typical midwestern farmgirl with dreams of the big city herself was nothing very spectacular. But underneath that adorable smile and cornhusker exterior, she was as feisty and rambunctious a fighter as any heavyweight in the ring”.

There, see how easy that is? It’s all crap but it sure stirs the 16 year old mind. And here in America, it’s what sells news. Every single thing, even locally, they break from the “newsperson on-the-scene” to their carefully “crafted” biodrama of the four-car pileup on the interstate, replete with the same old descriptors they lifted off the floor of some third rate newsroom.

    “Traveling at incredible speed”
    “Completely inibriated”
    “Cataclysm”
    “Slammed into”

    etc etc.

Joe Walsh’s “Dirty Laundry” was a remarkable piece of music for the way he told about the news desks of the world. There was a time when people reported the news. Now, they all take tips and hints from tabloids..the ones we used to all joke about (Is your dog really an alien?) and so on.

Then, to top it off, even with ridiculously slumped ratings, she still “earns” what, millions? Why? To spend a half hour on the tube before the US public and read a teleprompter. And not just to sell us the news but to be sold to us as well.

I haven’t watched MSM for over a decade. I think they are all out-of-work actors who actually think they are important.

I’d have more pride if I shoveled crap for a living than to do what they do.

  20. mrbeverage says:

Funny I listened to that clip twice and i didn’t hear Katie ask the President to stop villianizing every group that has deep concerns about his take over of the health system, nor did I hear her ask for congressmen, women and Senators to stop the slurs against dissenting voters, nor did i hear her call off union thugs or left wing groups from pretending to be conservatives and showing up at rallies as Hitler supporters. funny, all i heard was a scolding to people for not being sheep and not letting this administration roll over them and their rights. funny, huh? More like pathetic.

  21. Howard Roark says:

Isn’t she tiring just to watch? How these network producers, writers, and anchors can continue with their silly fantasies is beyond me, thanks to the past 20 years of what we lovingly call “the alternative media”: Rush, Levin, Boortz, Farber, Grant, Bruce, Ingraham, Hannity, Beck, and a few others have helped galvanize our cause for many years, and I dare say that they helped to inspire Roger Ailes’ stand-alone network, Fox News.

For instance, compare Couric’s hysterical “notebook” commentary in the face of this piece of reporting on the SEIU thugs from two Fridays ago about the real threat to America. It was reported by a far more beautiful, intelligent, and experienced journalist than perky Catie could ever hope to be: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PcUjKwRiGo

  22. J. P. says:

WOW!!! What a colossal, glittering jewel of ignorance.

First Katie…you had better check facts. Did you ever stop to think that the congressman in question was the one who is responsible for the swastika? And ‘why’ Katie? Because he realized that the person who was questioning him was a constituent and physician living in the congressman’s district and he had to cover-up his ignorance and bad behavior by trying to play the “race card” and thus hopefully divert attention away from himself.

The only “ignorance” on display Katie is yours. The only one who needs to “take a breath” here is you Katie. It’s people like you who are part of the problem and I refuse to have some f**king airhead like Katie Couric lecture me on anything. Especially, policy issues and behavior.

    • RightWinger says:

Amen JP! As soon as that swastika showed up on David Scott’s sign, I suspected he did it or one of his “aides” or SEIU thugs went to go outside and paint that on in the middle of the night. Especially after Scott made himself look like a complete idiot in that townhall.

Incidently, I can’t recall which network morning show it was, but they were talking about the protests and in one clip, showed a bunch of people chanting USA USA in an outside crowd setting. Then in the very next clip, they showed Scott yelling how his meeting was “taken over” by protestors. Of course this was all done in order to give the illusion that Scott’s town hall had degenerated into a free for all, when in fact it had not and he had that meltdown when asked a simple, polite question by that doctor.

  23. proreason says:

    Lightweight.

    Brainwashed.

    Sycophant.

    Fool.

  24. Enthalpy says:

I feel so much better now that Katie’s on the case–providing us with her extensive knowledge and insight. What these town hall meetings have uncovered is, in fact, the essence of what we are as a free people. Katie Couric is oblivious. She has no understanding of what America has been and what we are more than willing to do to keep. Obama and his nuts want to control our life and our death. The issue is: who decides? The answer is: we decide. No matter what, we decide!
