Very interesting stuff. I have to admit I don’t know much about the methods you talked about but you’ve given me something to read up on.

I’ve never heard the problem of us running out of uranium. Another thing that we need to know about for our future.

As to the other methods, I only wish we would plow more $$ into it. These sound like real possible solutions. If only we would use that science.

We need our old America(ns) back…the one that wouldn’t think twice about tackling a new science.

It is a mournful condition we are in. Especially when you consider that the Arab world wouldn’t even have the wealth they presently do, if it weren’t for the brainpower of Western oil merchants who not only showed those bedouins where to find it under their own sands, but how to extract it. When the Ottoman Empire sided with the Kaiser in WW I, we should have put them under the boot of our triumph just as any other victors of the past (the Mongols, the Muslims, Romans, etc) have done, and commandeered the oil without blinking.

I didn’t even mention that now Russia wants to claim the north pole’s reserves as their own. Canada and USA (Alaska) are trying to stake the same claim but with the greenies and the way we cater to them it will be Russia, who couldn’t give a flip what the greenies have to say, who will be getting even that oil

1. Bad management
2. When disasters happen they can be pretty bad
3. There’s not enough Uranium

The first two are obvious, the third is if the world went entirely nuclear the Uranium would last about 30 years. India has already been looking at reactors running off Thorium, but the only really good clean and accessible power we can generate with our technology is nuclear fusion, which is still in research and has been languishing for over twenty years. A conventional fission reactor is incredibly crude and simplistic compared to what’s need for fusion.

Of course if you want to go into the realm of near science fiction quantum foam (fluctuations in subatomic space time) would yield almost unlimited energy. But don’t dare mention is around the liberals, their dear little heads might explode as it’s all they can do to grasp how “smart” they are by chanting “no drilling! no drilling!”

We have the most advanced technology in all of history and yet we don’t use that techology to accomplish what comes so easily for our engineers, in order to protect the wildlife and still have use of our resources. Seems the wildlife and seas of these foreign countries aren’t suffering…Where’s the greenies over there? They would be laughed at and/or arrested for their stupidity!

If the Alaskan pipe line was being planned today it wouldn’t get built.
But when was the last time you heard any problems with the wildlife due to the pipeline? Oil spills? And it’s getting old and needing repairs yet it can be kept clean and in good working order. Believe me, if even one rabbit was injured by the pipeline we would have heard that around the world.

I live in Florida…and off the coast of Florida is a huge oil deposit. IN OUR WATERS! Yet, we can’t go after it. Might hurt a star fish or some such nonsense. We already have oil rigs out there, and when was the last time a beach was coated in oil? Again, it would have been blasted around the world if it had happened.

In fact it is the oil tankers shipping oil to us that have been resposible for the spills that we have had.

So, we are not tapping into that oil, but foreign countries are slant drilling into our waters for OUR oil. Seems that’s ok.

This drives me nuts. I’ll never get it.

And now coal is getting kicked out.

And for power Nuclear would be another good way to go, however I do have some reservations about the plants becoming a target for our enemies. If someone knows why that wouldn’t be a problem I would love to hear your thoughts. I admit I have mixed feelings on Nuclear power.

Appeals court quashes Alaska drilling effort

WASHINGTON — A federal appeals court ruled Friday that the Bush administration did not properly study the environmental impact of expanding oil and gas drilling off Alaska and canceled a program to find new reserves.

A three-judge panel in Washington found that the Bush-era Interior Department failed to consider the effect on the environment and marine life before it began the process in August 2005 to expand an oil and gas leasing program in the Beaufort, Bering and Chukchi seas.

It wasn’t clear whether the decision applied to other areas of the same expanded offshore drilling program, including tracts in the Gulf of Mexico and along the Atlantic Coast. Attorneys for the environmentalists and the industry said they thought it would cancel the entire program…
