Court Says No Recount For “President” Obrador

From a terribly disappointed Associated Press:

People protest outside of the offices of the Federal Electoral Tribunal in Mexico City, Mexico on Saturday Aug. 5, 2006. Mexico’s top electoral court rejected Saturday the leftist party’s request for a total recount in the country’s disputed presidential race, angering millions of supporters of candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

Mexican electoral court rejects recount

By TRACI CARL, Associated Press Writer

MEXICO CITY – Mexico’s top electoral court rejected the leftist party’s request for a total recount in the country’s disputed presidential race on Saturday, angering millions of supporters of candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

In Mexico’s central plaza, thousands of protesters watched the session on a huge screen, chanting "Vote by vote!" and drowning out the judges’ statements. Obrador’s representatives walked out of the session in protest.

Somehow I doubt that this minor setback will shut him up.
