1st to fight-----that's a good point. In fact, everyone I know that has lost a job recently was able to find one as good as if not better than their previous job. My dad is a retired GM worker who was laid off for the better part of the carter presidency. He would chop wood and paint houses to make extra money with his buddies, all of who were laid off as well. In fact, my wife and I were talking about this very topic the other day. She remembers those times also, her dad was a welder, and himself and all of his friends were laid off. Stores were closing, etc. People better get ready, this is such a blatant attempt at social extremism and the permanent change of the US I can ever recall. Interesting that russia is parking warships in our region just before the obama take over.......

"For that matter, any of the brainpans on the Hill might have asked why Ford and GM managed to build viable auto businesses all over the world but not in North America.

You don't need the Hubble telescope to tell the answer: The UAW is present only in the U.S., not all over the world"

Not to mention this idea that Obamy will shove liberty up you ass by telling you how much you can or can not make. He is going to MAKE CEO's give up their bonuses and large yearly salaries to what extent, beside the fact that he is eroding everybody's freedom with a statement like that and when you think about it how in the world does this help ME!!!!!
We do not benefit one bit by these rich people giving up their parachutes or bonuses they simply find a way to eliminate something which is what the government should do in the first place. Why do they think spending money will get us out of this problem why not CUT something?!?!?!?

another point.

Anybody who thinks $8-10 trillion in valuations can be sucked out of the stock market without a disatrous effect on employment is drunk on hopey changey.

a. businesses are intently focussed on share growth. When share values go down, businesses MUST adjust and the easiest way with the fastest impact is to eliminate jobs.

b. when stock market savings are cut in half, consumers will (and there is plenty of evidence they ARE doing so right now) cut their spending. That in turn reduces business' revenue and spurs additional job cuts.

This IS a crisis. It is going to get much worse before it gets better. The entire country will be impacted in a huge way. It's inevitable.

It was caused (or at least triggered) by the CRA home loan fiasco. And it was spurred on by market manipulation, probably in support of Obama's candidacy. Many analysts also think low interest rates, American's overuse of credit has contributed and government's idiot spending contributed.

Don't believe the BS about corporate greed. Corporations' business is to be greedy. It has always been so. The CRA may have inspired greed, but it was like applying a blowtorch to a fart. Don't blame the farter for doing what comes naturally.

Yup....me!! I worked construction and the market fell out in April. There is work but the illegals here in N.C. will do the job for half the money and no days off. How do you compete with that. We have a government that is suppose to keep these illegals out of the country but they don't give a shiite about "WE THE PEOPLE" anymore. In fact they bend over backwards to aid and comfort these border jumpers. When these illegals are hauled in, they are for the most part released back into the populace. These poor little beaners have rights or we are prejudice against them! You can't tell the bleeding hearts the meaning of I-L-L-E-G-A-L. Homeland Security is a joke when the illegals flaunt themselves in spite of our laws and they know it!! Comrade H. Boy will not do anything either....wait.....they did get signed up to vote by ACORN so the Boy needs to return the favor. My Bad!!!

"Do any of you know personally anyone who has lost their job or home due to the current financial crisis?"

Several who have been laid off. I expect the number will increase a lot by February. I also know people who run small businesses that have laid people off already. One said September was his worst month in the 14 years he has been in business..

And I have to sell or walk-away my home soon. My savings have been devastated and I can no longer afford to live this way. My lifestyle has been cut in half.

It's not a game to me.

"A stimulus package of a half trillion dollars or more, to create millions of jobs, including a public works program.
– Emergency help for the jobless and the victims of the sub prime mortgage crisis.
– Passage of the Employee Free Choice Act, so more workers can have unions
to end the ICE raids and deportations of immigrant workers"

Wow, what can I say. So I guess they really don't mind that the "aid" would come from China and that our children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren will have to pay it back - as long as they are comfortable and "protected" by the unions. I suppose they also don't mind if the Free Choice Act takes away a person's right NOT TO JOIN THE UNION.

The only "victims" of the sub-prime mortgages are those of us who thru no fault of our own have seen our 401k's melt away because of the sub-prime mess.
