Cuomo Now Says Conservatives Welcome In NY

From the Weekly Standard:

Cuomo Backtracks: ‘It Is Fine’ to Be Anti-Gun Control, Anti-Choice

By DANIEL HALPER | Jan 21, 2014

New York governor Andrew Cuomo came under fire for criticizing pro-life and pro-Second Amendment citizens of his state — and saying "that is not who New Yorkers are."

Their problem is not me and democrats, their problem is themselves. Who are they? Are they these extreme conservatives, who are right to life, pro assault weapon, anti-gay, is that who they are? Because if that is who they are, and if they are the extreme conservatives, they have no place in the state of New York. Because that is not who New Yorkers are.

By the way, has anyone ever called Governor Cuomo a bully?

Now his office is backtracking and insisting that the governor said "’it is fine’ to be anti-gun control, and anti-choice – as he respects both positions."

Yes, nothing could be more clear than his respect for both positions. Mr. Cuomo just doesn’t want people who hold those positions in ‘his’ state.

And they’re attacking the New York Post for highlighting Cuomo’s extreme comments. "The Post can allow any person they want to publish in their paper but if they are to retain any credibility they cannot be entirely reckless with facts and the truth."

After all, what could me more ‘reckless’ than quoting someone who they have on tape saying what they say he said? And there is no mistaking what Mr. Cuomo was saying in that taped statement.

It’s the Cuomo camp who are being reckless with the truth.

Here’s the full statement:

The New York Post distorted Governor Cuomo’s words yesterday, saying that the Governor said "conservatives should leave New York." The Governor did not say that, nor does he believe that.

If you read the transcript, it is clear that the Governor was making the observation that an extreme right candidate cannot win statewide because this is a politically moderate state (either moderate Republican or moderate Democratic).

In the same response, the Governor went on to say "it is fine" to be anti-gun control, and anti-choice” – as he respects both positions.

The Post can allow any person they want to publish in their paper but if they are to retain any credibility they cannot be entirely reckless with facts and the truth.

In other words, don’t believe the New York Post or your lying ears!

  1. Where’s the missing $59 Billion, Andy? Remember the $59 Billion that went missing from HUD while you were there as ‘Secretary’ Andy?

No, but I’ve called him a lot of other things, quite a lot of them unprintable here. Does that count?
