DC Exchanges Cover Abortions, Not Hearing Aids

From National Review:

Some D.C. Exchange Plans Cover Elective Abortion but Not Hearing Aids

By Betsy Woodruff | November 19, 2013

Multiple individual plans available on the D.C. health-insurance exchange specifically cover elective abortion but not hearing aids, routine foot-care, and routine eye-care.

Well, they have their priorities. Besides, how are you going to get young people to enroll in Obama-Care if you don’t offer free abortions to go with the rest of the free birth control?

One such plan, Healthy Blue PPO $1500, has a summary on the D.C. exchange’s website titled “Excluded Services & Other Covered Services.” It says enrollees can receive coverage for abortions performed for non-medical reasons, but not for a number of other services that could seem medically necessary. The plan also excludes coverage for some other procedures, including cosmetic surgery, bariatric surgery, and infertility treatment

Apparently, Obama doesn’t want to see anyone ‘punished with a baby.’ Even people who think they want a baby.

The Affordable Care Act specifically states that abortion is not an essential benefit, so not all plans cover the procedure.

So Obama-Care does not mandate that insurance companies cover elective abortions. But it doesn’t stop them from doing so, either.

A number of other plans in D.C. that cover elective abortion don’t cover things such as hearing aids, routine foot-care, and routine eye-care. For instance, CD BChoice HSA Br 6000 includes elective-abortion coverage but excludes coverage for hearing aids, infertility treatment, and routine foot-care. And the Kaiser Permanente KP DC Bronze 4500/50/HSA/Dental/PedDental covers elective abortion but not routine foot-care, hearing aids, and infertility treatment. The KP DC 5000/30%/HSA/Dental/PedDental also covers elective abortion but not hearing aids, routine foot-care, and infertility care.

This report is obviously mistaken. The Obama administration says it is a myth that taxpayer dollars are being used to fund abortions.

From the White House website, Get the Facts Straight on Health Reform:

Myth de-bunked

Health insurance reform will NOT use your tax dollars to fund abortions.

The health insurance reform legislation maintains the status quo of no federal funding for abortions, except in cases of rape, incest or when the life of the woman is endangered. A federal judge recently wrote "the express language of the [Affordable Care Act] does not provide for taxpayer funded abortion. That is a fact and it is clear on its face."

And yet people are going to get taxpayer subsidies for Obama-Care plans that do cover elective abortions. Which sure sounds like taxpayer dollars are going to fund abortions. Of course, this is the same White House website that still claims ‘if you like your insurance plan, you can keep it.’

Coincidentally enough, Bart Stupak is in the news, saying he still doesn’t regret his vote for Obama-Care.

thank goodness they will eliminated “Sub Standard Policys.”

Tax payers are paying for abortions because the ACA says it pays the exchanges for any monetary loss.
