You're right Canary.

With virtually no activity for months at car dealerships nationwide, they will glom onto any tactic to get feet in the door.

I cut my teeth at a Caddy dealer when I was a kid. I had perhaps one of the few honest jobs there as new-car prep. I simply cleaned them for delivery. But the stuff I saw and heard. They are ruthless. This is why I liken Blammo to a car salesman. He will say anything to get people to believe him to cinch the deal.

I'm not the least bit surprised that dealerships are coming up with their own plans. And yeah...they basically want newer, clean used cars which historically sell better than new cars. They've already depreciated, and between two to four years don't show their age much...and so on.

IN one respect, though I don't like people being put out of work, I always felt that the more dishonest and schlocky car-people that got put out the door, the better. So...when they are digging their own grave, I feel it is my moral duty to hand them a shovel.

What a crock. Consumer Affairs said to be aware of scame.

Automotive Stimulus Program Requirements:
1. Current vehicle is a 2006 or older 2. is operable -
(They want a car worth 4500 at least).
   5. The replacement vehicle has to be more fuel efficient by a minimum of two mpg (they won't have to scrap it.
6. Incentives vary based on current vehicle and desired vehicle
(they want to resale it not scrap it by govt regs
   7. Incentives vary by State, Make and Model. Incentives vary in some states due to state laws that regulate to automotive advertising and promotion.
  (think California)

All a gimmich to get you into their lot. Consumer Affairs lost of scams going on out there. Just like those adds repos! starting at $dollars a month. No credit needed. b.s. I got an add from a Mexican dealer, with big Mexican flag, and in Spanish. I called, and asked what it said, as I was not Mexican. He said it meant bad credit wasn't a problem. Then I asked him why he had a Mexican flag on the flyer. He apologized and said he would tell the boss he got a complaint.

Went to buy a new vehicle the other day. Offered $12,000 trade-in for my 6 yr old pick-up. Had financing pre-approved. They acted like they didn't want to sell me a car. Left.

A few months back, I read a similar article about an entreprenurial business that had arisen to serve as a broker to pair people who were looking for starter homes with repossessed houses. There were some other factors the business had going for it that gave them a market edge, but I forget the detainls.

The article said that the initial results were very good. That's the amazing thing about capitalism. Even in bad times, opportunies for creative entrepreneurs abound.

But I haven't heard a thing about it recently.

Maybe it was competing with The Moron's plan to create a permanent class of serfs.

I think I said this before, we bought a 2009 new car, received about $4,500 incentive from mfr. and dealer off sticker, and got $1,500 trade in on a 1997 car with 183,000 miles. They wanted to sell, we wanted to buy...cruise control on our old car had just broken...well, I can't drive an unsafe car like that.

Same size cars and same MPG.

What's all the hub bub, bub?

Capitalism works when it is tried.
