PA Democrat John Murtha Is Dead At 77

From a grief stricken Associated Press:

Rep. John Murtha, Iraq war critic, dies at 77

By Peter Jackson, Associated Press Writer

February 8, 2010

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Rep. John Murtha, the tall, gruff-mannered former Marine who became the de facto voice of veterans on Capitol Hill and later an outspoken and influential critic of the Iraq War, died Monday. He was 77.

The Pennsylvania Democrat had been suffering from complications from gallbladder surgery. He died at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, Va., with his family at his bedside, the hospital said…

This is too bad.

It looks like the Haditha Marines will never get their long overdue apology.

Murtha was a Marine…which is laudable. But his attacks on fellow Marines made me think the guy was an opportunistic cretin.

I have no use for people like him. He has sullied the reputation of those Marines who have all been acquitted of their supposed “criminal” actions. He also turned his back on every man and woman who served honorably in the current wars. He was an opportunistic pig who probably should have died in prison with all the extemporaneous shenanigans he and his family have been involved in throughout the years. Some friends of ours were at the National Memorial Day Concert at the Capital a few years ago while he was recuperating at Walter Reed. When the Marine anthem was played he stands up with this big grin. Our friend told us a number of the Marines that surrounded them flipped him off and told him to sit down as he was no longer a “real Marine”. He was disgusting and while his service in Viet Nam is laudable, he should have had more respect based on what he went through (I would imagine) for those serving now. But he didn’t. I know a retired Navy pilot who got his appointment to Annapolis through him but even he had no more respect for him after those Haditha comments & that ridiculous pulling the troops back to Okinawa. Ted wondered if he had lost his mind. I’m sure the honorable Marines who have passed have plenty to say to him.

He soiled the uniform that many of us here wore. There is an unspoken code that he should have upheld, and instead he chose to defile it for political expediency. He was and shall always remain a disgrace in my mind. I’m reminded of an incident that took place many years ago when I had just returned from ‘Nam and got discharged. One day a friend of my Dad’s said to him, “I see in the obituaries that (so-and-so) died.”

My Dad (he, a WW II Marine) said, “That son-of-a-bitch!”

I (having myself seen plenty enough dead people too recently) said “Dad!! The man just died.”

To which my Dad’s friend said, “That just makes him a DEAD son-of-a-bitch.”

I, too, know I shouldn’t be judgmental, but Murtha was a cretin much in the mold of Ted Kennedy. I wouldn’t wish him dead, but I’m finding it hard to feel sorry that he is. If his pronouncements on the Iraq war cost one US serviceman’s life, that persons blood is on Murtha’s hands. What I really regret is that we wont have the pleasure of voting him out of office and then flipping him off.

Oh, yes, this’ll also make getting the Moron’s ‘health scare’ bill tougher to pass.

    (with bowed head)

Lord, please forgive me the sin of what I’m thinking …..

  4. Mithrandir says:

Kennedy, Murtha. Now, we just have to wait for captain earmark, Robert Byrd, and few other 70-80 year olds to meet their maker, and Viola! We might actually have ‘change’ in our government in 2 generations. . .

    • BannedbytheTaliban says:

I don’t know about that. The old guard Dems were more like mob bosses. They were more interested in running unions and playing dirty to line their pockets with tax dollars. The new face of the Democratic Party is more socialist/communist like Obama who would like to end the capitalist system. The old guys were still bad, but at least could acknowledge that it was capitalism, not government that made them rich.

  5. AmericanIPA says:

Whose life is worse off now that he’s gone? Exactly.

  6. U NO HOO says:

Seems to me Murtha died because he was greedy. Didn’t believe in “30 and out.”

    Condolences to family and friends.

  7. U NO HOO says:

    Unindicted Co Conspirator

  8. GL0120 says:

When a local conservative paper endorsed him last year I couldn’t believe it.
They said that the armed forces had no better friend than a man who called Marines cold blooded killers before they went to trial!
Afterward, when the Marines were acquitted, Murtha was as silent as he is now.
Condolences to his family, but who needs friends like him?

  9. Chuckk says:

If you have nothing good to say, say nothing.

Therefore I have nothing to say.

  10. crosspatch says:

Sounds to me like he needed a better health care plan.

  11. artboyusa says:

Don’t speak ill of the dead, they say. Well, screw that. He was a corrupt, bloated liar and a bad American. From the Artboy Archives…JACK “PRETTY BOY” MURTHA, the Pennsylvania Man-Pig, stars in “Jack’s Big Score”!

The intercom buzzed insistently on the Pennsylvania Congressman’s ornate but cluttered desk.

“Bzzzz. Bzzzz. Bzzzz” it went. “Bzzzzzzzzz…”

“Huh? Wha? I’m awake – I wasn’t asleep!” Jack “Pretty Boy” Murtha spluttered “I’m woikin’ on impordant legislation”.

“Congressman? Are you okay?” asked his secretary. “The delegation from the Japanese Embassy is here for your 4 pm meeting”.

“Wha? Nips, huh? So early in da day? Okay – gimme a minute and den send da slopes in”.

Pretty Boy tucked his shirt under his massive bellies and wiped his mouth on his tie. He spat on his hands and plastered his white hair into place. A quick glance in the mirror – “lookin’ good” – and then he was ready. The door opened… oops –the bottle! He grabbed it and shoved it back in his desk drawer.

“Congressman? This is the delegation from the Embassy of Japan. Gentlemen, this is Congressman Murtha”.

“Hey, fellas. What’s the good word? How youse doin’?”

“We are doing most werr, esteemed Murtha-san, sank you. I am Mitsubishi Toyota, Assistant Underr-Secletaly for North Amelican Affairs. These are my correagues, Mr Sony and Mr Nakajima. Gleetings”.

“Same ta youse” said Pretty Boy, crushing each of the Asiatic’s delicate hands in his own meaty paw. “Have a seat. Make yourselfs comfordable. Now – what can I do for youse fellas?”

Mr Toyota cleared his throat. “It has to do with the matter of Okinawa” he said. “The Emperor of the Chrysanthemum Throne and his ministers have ristened with intelest and glowing concern to your lecent suggestions concerning the ‘re-deproyment’ of US forces to Japanese tellitoly”.

“Jap territory?” said Pretty Boy. “I neva said nuthin’ aboud dat. I said Okinawa”.

“The irland of Okinawa is Japanese tellitoly, Murtha-san. The 159 irlands, part of the Ryuku chain, form my countly’s southernmost Plefecture”.

“Youse have godda be kiddin’! No way! It’s right here on da map”. Pretty Boy pointed to a spot on the inflatable plastic globe which adorned his desk.

“Forgive me, Murtha-san. That is Belgium”.

    “Oh. Over here den”.

    “The mountain kingdom of Andorra”.

“Oh. Okay, so what? Youse didn’t come here ta give me no geography lesson”.

“You speak the stlaightfolward truth, Murtha-san, as is your wont. His Majesty is most concerned by your suggestions and their imprications for our countly. It is his plofound desire that some way may be found to ameriolate your ploposals”.

“Change your mind, conglessman. His Majesty hopes that you may…”

“I ged it, I ged it” said Pretty Boy. “But I’m warnin’ youse –changin’ my mind don’t come cheap”. The veteran lawmaker rubbed thumb and forefinger busily together.

“We undelstand perfectry, Murtha-san. We are aware of your personar leputation for plobity, or the absence thereof; and I berieve we will be abre to successfurry addless your requilements”.

“Youse ain’t cops, is youse?” demanded Pretty Boy. “Cause if youse is, and I axe you, youse’ve gotta say so straight. Dat’s da law!”

“We are not ‘clops’, Murtha-san” said Mr Toyota. “You may quiet your mind on that point”.

“No hidden mikes? No cameras? I almosd got stung once before like dat”.

“No, Murtha-san. Prease; I assure you no indictments wirr ensue”.

“Not even un-indictments? Good. Okay. So whad’s up?”

Mr Toyota spoke sharply in Japanese and his two assistants silently placed their gleaming briefcases on their knees, opened them –click click – and spun them around so that Pretty Boy could see the contents. His little red piggy eyes widened.

Mr Toyota smiled. “Yerrs, Murtha-san –‘wow’ indeed. I tlust it wirr be possiberr to achieve a mutuary enabring concordance?”

“Hey, I’ll say” said Murtha. “I’ll say. Now youse guys is talkin’ my langwitch”!

  12. ptat says:

First Kennedy, now Murtha. Perhaps the Corruptocrats are going extinct….we can only hope!

I posted my condolences over at the News Selection as soon as I heard about this news – gleeful as I am, having just gone through this – I am very aware of how condolences mean a lot to the family.

Having said that – Obamacare is Obama’s signature ‘legacy’ legislation (or so the Obamamedia claims) so I have a few questions:
    1) Why did he not jump out of the shoot while he had staggeringly high poll numbers to start it (and probably get it)?
    2) As he had majority in both the House & Senate – why did it take until Nov (House- by 2 votes) and Dec 24 (Senate – by 2 bribed votes) to pass it?
    3) If this is just what American people want, if this is true reform – exactly why has it failed since FDR started the dream?
    4) What is Obama going to do to get this passed?

As I said in my earlier post – I am waiting (popcorn handy) to watch the implosion of Obama/DNC as they watch their ‘majorities’ disapear.

And the Lie-brals say that there is no God –

  14. BannedbytheTaliban says:

Murtha would have done better if he had remembered the meaning of Semper Fi.

  15. Confucius says:

I wonder if he’s looking up with any regrets.

  16. CKO1986 says:

“It looks like the Haditha Marines will never get their long overdue apology.”

    That is indeed unfortunate…

On the plus side, however, we’ll no longer have to listen to Murtha trash his own constituents as ‘racist’.
