Democrats Call For Action After Zimmerman Verdict

From the National Journal:

GOP Congressman: We’ll Be Talking About the Trayvon Martin Case ‘For a Long Time to Come’

By Matt Berman | July 13, 2013

In a dramatic end to a case that has played out for over a year, George Zimmerman was found not guilty of any charges related to the death of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager who was shot by Zimmerman…

Some people are probably starting to think that "Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager" is actually his full Christian name.

On Saturday night, the reactions from D.C. started coming in soon after the not-guilty verdict was reached. Florida Rep. Frederica Wilson tweeted: Frederica Wilson: "I am tired of burying little black boys"

The vast majority of whom are killed by fellow blacks.

This bold response came early from Texas Rep. Joaquin Castro, who is widely viewed as a big part of the Democratic Party’s future:  Joaquin Castro: "Defense attorney Mark O’Mara may incite a riot by his arrogance alone. Talk about adding insult to injury."

Democratic Rep. Hakeem Jeffries of New York kept the "I am Trayvon" sentiment alive into Saturday night: Hakeem Jeffries: "Zimmerman verdict inexplicable. Justice delayed will not be justice denied. #IAmTrayvon"

And Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland used the verdict as a call to action:  Elijah E. Cummings: "Turn your pain into passion and your passion into purpose. Now is the time to do so for #JusticeForTrayvon"

Rep. Gregory Meeks joined the other New York members of Congress in commenting on the verdict on Twitter:  Gregory Meeks: "I hope that our country now engages in a much needed conversation about the consequences of racial profiling #IAmTrayvonMartin"

Frankly, it seems a little insensitive to harp on Trayvon Martin’s "racial profiling" ("crazy ass cracker") now that he is dead.

Former congressman and New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner also weighed in: Anthony Weiner: "Keep Trayvon’s family in our prayers. Deeply unsatisfying verdict. Trial by jury is our only choice in a democracy."

Thankfully Mr. Weiner refrained from including any photos in his tweet.

Weiner wasn’t the only politician running for New York City office to weigh in. On This Week Sunday, former New York Governor and comptroller candidate Eliot Spitzer called the case "a failure of justice." …

It’s always nice to hear from moral authorities like Weiner and Spitzer.

Just because Zimmerman has been cleared on all charges doesn’t mean that this case is over. The NAACP on Saturday night posted a petition to the Department of Justice, asking Attorney General Eric Holder to file civil rights charges against Zimmerman. New York Congressman Jerry Nadler seemed to voice some support for such an effort:

Congressman Nadler: "Trayvon Martin’s death was a senseless tragedy & I’m deeply saddened tonight. Pleased that DOJ is continuing to evaluate evidence."

In a retweet of NAACP president Ben Jealous, Tennessee Rep. Steve Cohen did the same: Steve Cohen: "@BenJealous: We can move from anger to action. Ask the DOJ to pursue federal civil rights charges"

Later in the day, Cohen explicitly called for the Department of Justice to take action: Steve Cohen: #TrayvonMartin case. I’m asking @TheJusticeDept to consider fed #hatecrimes charges 4 #Zimmerman."

And double jeopardy be damned. They must have blood.

And never mind that the feds are only supposed to get involved when there have been ‘civil rights’ violations done by agents of the government. Like the LAPD in the Rodney King case.

    (D) rouse for not doing what SHOULD be priority.
Liberals Demise is not a moniker here.

Then get your house in order, honey.

93% of black homicides are by blacks

      Excellent point, GBJ.

Florida Rep. Frederica Wilson: “tired of burying little black boys.”

Which poses the question: How many “little black boys” practice mixed martial arts and engage in MMA fighting as their hobby? And cover their bodies with tats? Keep burglar’s tools and stolen jewelry in their school locker? Have marijuana in their system?

And how many “little black boys” look like Trayskittles :

The dead stare of a fish or the careful sizing-up of a predator. Empty, soulless, black expressionless eyes, no vitality, no spark of curiosity or sense of wonder about the beauty of God’s creation, none of those things that call for intelligence, charity, or mercy, just evil to the core. Full of insolence, arrogance, and aggression without remorse, without the capacity for remorse. “[T]he thing about a shark … he’s got lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a doll’s eyes. When he comes at ya, doesn’t seem to be living….” – Peter Benchley, “Jaws” (1975).

Isn’t Aaron Hernandez accused of killing some black people over a barfight and a subsequent murder coverup? Are the race hustlers going to spend some time talking about that case? I still haven’t heard Hernandez referred to as a “white hispanic.” Does he get a pass because he’s a member of the National Felons’ League? Some of his best friends are black??
