Democrats Deny A Black Man Senate Seat

From an inexplicably un-outraged Associated Press:

US Senate Sergeant at Arms Terrance Gainer (L) escorts senate appointee Roland Burris (D-IL) (2nd R), Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich’s choice to fill the vacant U.S. Senate seat of President-elect Barack Obama, out of the building after a brief visit at the US Capitol in Washington, January 6, 2009.

Burris denied seat in US Senate to succeed Obama

By LAURIE KELLMAN, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON – Roland Burris announced Tuesday he was rejected for Barack Obama’s Senate seat, in a bizarre rainy-day scene on the Capitol grounds as lawmakers awaited the gaveling of the 111th Congress into session.

Standing amid a huge throng of reporters and television cameras in a cold and steady rain, Burris, 71, declared that he had been informed that "my credentials are not in order and will not be accepted."

The former Illinois attorney general said he was "not seeking to have any type of confrontation" over taking the seat that he was appointed to by embattled Gov. Rod Blagojevich. But Burris also said he was looking at options for taking the seat.

It was a spectacular demonstration of political gridlock at a time when the Democratic-controlled Congress has been eagerly awaiting Obama’s inauguration while nervously anticipating tense work on a much-discussed stimulus program to steady the faltering economy.

An attorney for Burris, Timothy W. Wright III, said that "our credentials were rejected by the secretary of the Senate. We were not allowed to be placed in the record books. We were not allowed to proceed to the floor for purposes of taking oath. All of which we think was improperly done and is against the law of this land. We will consider our options and we will certainly let you know what our decisions will be soon thereafter."

Asked what his options were, Wright said there possibly could be a court challenge and he said that Burris also would continue to talk to the Senate leadership.

There had been earlier indications that the Senate would disallow Burris to take his seat, at least in part because his letter of appointment from Blagojevich was not co-signed by Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White.

As a thought experiment, try to imagine this being done by Republicans.

The dome would be blown off of the Capitol.

And yet our watchdog media seems to take it in its stride when the perps are their Democrat bosses.

Anyway, compare and contrast:

Gov. George Wallace, left, blocks the doorway to Foster Auditorium at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, in a confrontation with U.S. Deputy Attorney General Nicholas Katzenbach (arms folded), June 11, 1963.

Of course Mr. Wallace was also a Democrat.

Maybe the 101 Airborne can be sent in to escort Senator Burris to his seat, like they had to do for the ‘Little Rock Nine’ in 1957.

Is this the Democrat version of a “High Tech Lynching of a black American?”
( Notice I purposely didn’t say African ) Now thats what I call being “PC”.

  2. proreason says:

If he doesn’t sue, either the payoff is beyond any previous record, or his family’s lives were threatened.

  3. Confucius says:

Do you think Reid air-conditioned the colored areas too?

I hope Burris sues Reid for reparations. Maybe in the World Court.

Speaking of which, has Burris called the U.N. race police?

And what do Obama, Shabazz, Sharpton, Jackson and the Congressional Black Caucus have to say? What about fellow senator Byrd?

    • sheehanjihad says:

Bobby Rush, (racist ILL) has come out saying that the rejection of Burris was a “racist act”. The Black Caucus, which is responsible for keeping racism alive in America, also condemned the Burris turn away… news conference to follow. Yep, Burris’s appointment by Blago, and the fact that his paperwork was not signed off on was done ONLY because he was black….not because he was qualified at all.

    • Liberals Demise says:

Race Card and Victim at the same time. Rush also said, “If Burris had been white, he would have been seated immediately.” A racist Democrap calling the Democraps, “RACIST”. Look at me …..I’m all giddy….TeeHee TeeHee!!

      Hope and Change. ;)

    • pinandpuller says:

Byrd can tie some sheets together so Burris can fast-rope down from the senate gallery.

  4. curvyred says:

And they say Republicans are racist, tsk tsk tsk.

Also did you know that Barry was questioned for two hours by two FBI agents and two US attorneys over the Blago fiasco while he was in Hawaii?

I never saw it in the main stream media, thought I would post it here:

      from Curvy’s link:

“He is not a target of the corruption investigation that threatens to engulf some of Chicago’s most prominent politicians.”

Of course he’s not a target. They were probably interviewing him to get his Fruit Cake recipe, or advice on handicapping the NBA.

15 days from office and he’s already on a first name basis with federal prosecutors.

Now THAT’s change, the Chicago way.

And imagine the MSM feedging frenzy if this were McCain. The Slimes would be publishing special editions.

  5. Lipstick on a PIAPS says:

Oh, NO Negro, you don’t come into our exclusive men’s club! ROFLMAO! Harry Reid will deem which Negroes may pass and which may not! Actually blocking this leftist out of the Senate is a good thing but it’s being done for all the wrong reasons. ;-) Too bad we couldn’t contrast Al Franken being let in, passing Burriss, after he DIDN’T win the seat in Minnesota. What a sight THAT would have been. LMAO

    Here it comes…..

“Senate leader leaves door ajar for Burris
    January 7, 2009 9:27 AM | No Comments |
WASHINGTON — A day after the U.S. Senate barred Roland Burris from being seated, Majority Leader Harry Reid left the door open to his admittance.

After a 45-minute meeting this morning between Burris, Reid and his lieutenant, Sen.Dick Durbin, Reid said Senate Democrats would wait to see if the Illinois Supreme Court would order Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White to sign Burris’ appointment by Gov. Rod Blagojevich.”

The AP initially reported Burris would be seated but have since backed off to this.

But my goodness, he’s an African American. He cannot be denied his heritage.

  7. proreason says:

    and done. what a surprise.

    “AP NewsAlert

    Jan 7 11:25 AM US/Eastern

WASHINGTON (AP) – Senate Democrats plan to accept Roland Burris for President-elect Barack Obama’s vacant seat. ”

unless the AP changes it’s mind again.

  8. pdsand says:

The more I think about it, the more I’m sure that Fitzgerald arrested Blago solely for the purpose of preventing him from actually selling the seat (possibly with Rahm Emmanuel being the highest bidder) and committing a more serious crime that would really embarrass the Democrats and Obama. This way Blagojevich knows that he’s being surveilled, he can make a clean appointment which can be momentarily (one entire day) questioned on account of the scandal. Then eventually (probably a year or more down the road) he can go to trial on the charge of conspiracy to be corrupt, the whole thing will get laughed out of court, and the Democrats can peacefully go about their business of entrenching communism into the law of the land.
My goodness, what other time than murder does a prosecutor who’s got a wiretap on a suspect who’s conspiring to commit the crime, here essentially a financial/corruption crime, step in to arrest before the crime is committed? I’m sure the sentences are always longer for the actual offense, rather than conspiracy to commit the offense. Isn’t that what a prosecutor wants?

    • proreason says:

      Well thought out.

In addition, Fitzgerald is a mad-dog Democrat partisan. Otherwise he would never have wasted the taxpayer’s money amd 2 1/2 years entrapping Libby for not remembering obscure details about a non-crime.

I’ve thought from the begining that Blago would walk.

I also doubt he will be impeached.

      He knows too much.
