Democrats Are/Aren’t Afraid To Go Home

From the Politico:

Dems brace for another recess

By: Chris Frates and Carrie Budoff Brown
November 10, 2009

The last time Congress returned home for an extended break in August, health care reform proponents lost ground that took weeks to regain — but not again, Democrats insist as they head into the Veterans Day recess.

The landscape is a bit different this time. House Democrats passed a sweeping bill Saturday night, giving lawmakers something to tout back home but also providing Republicans with more concrete opportunities to criticize

The rhetorical and tactical battle lines, however, are similar to the tumultuous summer recess. Senate Republican leaders are encouraging their members to hold health care town halls. And House Republicans have armed their troops with a 16-page memo detailing talking points on what they call the Pelosi Health Care Bill…

House Democratic leaders have given their members talking points memos, fact sheets and district-by-district analyses of the bill’s impact. The district-specific reports include information on how many seniors, small businesses and uninsured residents will be helped by reform, among other statistics

“We have been arming our members with all the information they need to talk about the benefits of the legislation to any group in their district, answer any question from a constituent or debunk any false claim raised by health insurance reform opponents,” said Nadeam Elshami, a spokesman for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

Liberal groups, including the Service Employees International Union, MoveOn.org and Health Care for America Now, will spend the week thanking lawmakers who supported the House bill and spotlighting those who did not.

For the 39 Democrats who opposed the House bill Saturday, MoveOn is planning to paint their “nays” as votes for the insurance industry and against reform.

The group plans to mount a $500,000 advertising campaign against the naysayers. And the first round of television advertising will target Democratic Reps. Mike Ross of Arkansas; Jason Altmire of Pennsylvania; Glenn Nye and Rick Boucher, both of Virginia; and Larry Kissell and Heath Shuler, both of North Carolina

“This weekend, representatives had a critical choice to make. They either stood up and took a historic vote to fix the health care crisis, or they stood with the vast majority of Republicans and the insurance industry to vote for the status quo,” said MoveOn Executive Director Justin Ruben. “MoveOn members will make sure that representatives who did the right thing know they can count on the support of their base and those who stuck with the insurance companies face real political consequences.”

The labor-backed Americans United for Change is part of a coalition of progressive groups — including SEIU, HCAN and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees — that has targeted 81 House members and 22 senators with constituent calls. This week, the group will thank lawmakers who voted yes and continue to pressure their Senate colleagues to support reform, said spokesman Jeremy Funk.

Since July, the coalition mobilized more than 361,000 calls to lawmakers from their districts. And from last Thursday to Saturday, Funk estimated, the coalition generated about 7,500 calls a day

This is just a very funny, very telling headline.

It shows that the Democrats realize they are not doing the bidding of those who sent them to Washington.

And it’s kind of hard to see the logic behind their denials:

The last time Congress returned home for an extended break in August, health care reform proponents lost ground that took weeks to regain — but not again, Democrats insist as they head into the Veterans Day recess. The landscape is a bit different this time.

Won’t the citizenry be even more irate that this horrific bill has been rammed through the House against their wishes? And we know more about it now than we did back in August.

No, the only hope for the Congressmen is that the recess is too short for people to organize and do anything about it.

More importantly, we suspect the Democrats will hide from their constituents and won’t be holding too many townhalls.

House Democratic leaders have given their members talking points memos, fact sheets and district-by-district analyses of the bill’s impact. The district-specific reports include information on how many seniors, small businesses and uninsured residents will be helped by reform, among other statistics.

If they have compelling details like this, why haven’t we heard them before? Why have they been sitting on them?

Or won’t these ‘facts’ stand up to public scrutiny?

Liberal groups, including the Service Employees International Union, MoveOn.org and Health Care for America Now, will spend the week thanking lawmakers who supported the House bill and spotlighting those who did not.

Hilarious. They have to send out Mr. Obama’s paid hirelings to try to convince these politicians that they did the right thing. They are ‘astro-turfing’ themselves.

And they talk about the ‘rightwing echo chamber.’

For the 39 Democrats who opposed the House bill Saturday, MoveOn is planning to paint their “nays” as votes for the insurance industry and against reform. The group plans to mount a $500,000 advertising campaign against the naysayers.

These are repulsive strong arm tactics, to put it mildly. And it is surely not the way things used to be done in America.

Let’s hope that these Blue Dogs realize that it is their own party, led by Mr. Obama, that is raising money to attack them.

Since July, the coalition [of the usual suspects] mobilized more than 361,000 calls to lawmakers from their districts. And from last Thursday to Saturday, Funk estimated, the coalition generated about 7,500 calls a day.

Again, they talk about the right’s ‘mind-numbed robots.’

These are robo-calls, but made by real people.

If you can call DNC/Soros stooges and union thugs real people.

It’s gonna get messy before Christmas and rightly (no pun intended) so!

    The system must be purged!!

  2. proreason says:

Let’s hope that nobody compares these tactics to Hitler and Stalin.

    That would be unconscionable

Steve has fished up another hilarious article. Certainly the image of Democrats hiding from their constituents is as funny as anything in Mark Twain or Henry Fielding.

By the way, this Mr. Nadeam Elshami, mentioned in the 5th paragraph as point-man for the House bill and as “spokesman for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi,” seems to be a bit of a man of mystery.

A hasty internet search reveals very little information about him. Only that he is a renegade from Reagan conservatism, of Egyptian heritage, has been praised by the Arab American Institute, and was the moving force behind Pelosi’s 2007 visit to the Syrian murderer-terrorist-dictator Assad.

    In other words…lies.

P U L E E S E! As if most Americans won’t already be armed with information discrediting their lies, er, talking points. More proof how stupid or delusional our elected officials really are and why they all need replacing.

  5. Petronius says:

Points in this article regarding Liberal tactics serve to remind that we have not updated our working definition of Liberalism since July 2009.

In light of current events, our original definition –– while accurate as far as it goes –– may have been too generous in that it did not focus sufficiently on the thuggish tactics and destructive aspects of Liberalism.

Here I have in mind current national security events such as deliberately ignoring Islamic jihad and terrorism, even in the officer corps of the Army; inattention to military requirements in Afghanistan and elsewhere; betrayal of America’s old allies; suspending missile defenses; dismantling our intelligence capability; cozying up to foreign dictators; open and undefended borders; and inattention to the threat of nuclear weapons in the hands of terrorist states. We also need to keep in mind economic events such as Obamacare in all of its ruthlessness, massive deficits, inattention to unemployment, cap and tax, destruction of small businesses, and bullying, confiscation and nationalization of large businesses. Our original definition also ignored Liberalism’s place in history.

Therefore, I offer the following revised definition of Liberalism, having tacked on three new paragraphs for your review and constructive comments:

Liberalism is a secular ideology which is completely out of touch with reality and which has been blessed by the media and academics with an aura of quasi-religious sanctity.

Its doctrine is Marxism. As such, Liberalism seeks: to promote class envy and a mythology of victimization; to enslave successful individuals and businesses, and to redistribute their wealth to moochers, freeloaders, and parasites; and to stifle and choke the human will to self-responsibility and the human drive to succeed and prosper.

Its aims are power (both for its own sake and as a means to control and remold human beings), theft (loot), and destruction of Western Civilization (Christendom).

Its method is to take control of a white, Christian country through abuse of the democratic process; then to give that country over to anti-white, anti-Christian migrants (legal or illegal, it hardly seems to matter) for colonization and occupation; to force the indigenous inhabitants to pay for their own dispossession through heavy taxation, affirmative action, indoctrination, endless crime, bloodshed, and humiliations, obliteration of their culture, and other means; to punish those who object to this treatment as “hate criminals,” and then to describe this whole monstrous process as “enrichment.”

Strong arm tactics, abuse of power, deployment of front groups and union thugs, broken promises, fraud, misrepresentation, and corruption are hallmarks of Liberalism, and permeate and color it through and through. Liberals misuse language shamelessly for propaganda and without regard to reality, humanity, or honor.

Liberals take delight in all manner of destruction. To this end they deliberately mishandle matters relating to national security, sovereignty, and military defense. Also to this end, Liberal robber gangs will impose unpopular socialist and redistributionist programs and make war on prosperity. In their pursuit of destruction, Liberals will unabashedly defy the will of the people, even targeting citizens (individually and in groups), political opponents, and news organizations for elimination as unsuitable elements, malcontents, and reactionaries: “unAmericans,” “extremists,” “terrorists,” “astroturfers,” “angry mobs,” “tea-baggers,” “teabag, anti-government people,” “enemy of America” (Fox News), “Republican hissy fits,” “foot-dragging, knuckle-dragging Neanderthals,” “naysayers,” “opponents of reform,” etc., characteristic of Liberal invective.

In historical terms, Liberalism remains the gravest threat to Western Civilization and individual liberty since the passing of the Black Death and the end of serfdom in the 14th century AD. If Liberalism were to disappear overnight, it would be a matter of widespread rejoicing and revival of spirituality, and would usher in an era of great happiness, freedom, security, prosperity, and progress.

  6. KrlyQ says:

They should be fearful of returning home. “When the government fears the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny.” Thomas Jefferson.
We need to work on the Senators, with phone calls and e-mails everyday reminding them of how much we, the people, do not want this bill passed into law!

    • Liberals Demise says:

Well….we did this with CONgress and they said “SCREW YOU.”
What makes you think the Senate will heed the calls of “We the people?”
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a rebel with a cause but they are beyond remorse.
Ugly Harry has said he will ram this through.
Short of a revolution again, I don’t see them releasing the reins of power and doing the peoples’ work.

  7. KrlyQ says:

Liberals Demise, we have to try. There are many Blue Dogs and pro-life Dems that are stradling the fence. We need to contact them!

    • Liberals Demise says:

My Senator is Richard Burr (R) N.C.
He sent me a letter stating that in no way would he support Government run Health Care.
I don’t know who yours is but I wish you luck if they are a fence sitter. You know that the promising and wrist twisting has begun.

Believe me when I say, ” I’m on your side of aisle on this!”

  8. Enthalpy says:

Pelosi exhibits the face of a religious zealot, a true believer. Reason and truth will never reach her; she will always believe that she is right.

  9. wirenut says:

Enthalpy, true. The only thing I see religious about Pelosi’s face is, I always say “O MY GOD!” after viewing it.

  10. Wow.. is it just me or without her millions of dollars, would Pelosi be just another crazy cat lady?
