War college teaches senior officers that objectives in war must be reasonable, attainable, easily recognized and kept up to date.

Every soldier in the field knows their assigned duties. When a skid-mark-in-his-drawers president or other politician starts waxing theory and policy, you know our soldiers are in trouble. Bush 1 and 2 never told the generals anything but the main objective and then let them do their jobs.
