Dems Demand Equal Seats On Benghazi Committee

From an unquestioning Associated Press:

House Democrats protest plan for Benghazi panel

May 7, 2014

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Democrats are protesting Speaker John Boehner’s plan for a select committee to investigate Benghazi, insisting the panel be evenly split between the two parties.

Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi and whip Steny Hoyer have sent Boehner a letter accusing House Republicans of "extreme and counter-productive partisanship" in their investigations of the 2012 attack on the U.S. diplomatic outpost in Libya, which killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans…

It is always telling what the AP manages to leave out of their articles.

Here are some additional details, via  the Daily Caller:

Pelosi Open To Appointing Democrats To Benghazi Committee

By Alex Pappas | May 6, 2014

Some liberals are pushing for no Democrats to serve on the new select committee on Benghazi — but House minority leader Nancy Pelosi said Tuesday she is open to appointing Democrats to the panel.

“If this review is to be fair, it must be truly bipartisan,” Pelosi said in a statement. “The panel should be equally divided between Democrats and Republicans as is done on the House Ethics Committee. It should require that witnesses are called and interviewed, subpoenas are issued, and information is shared on a bipartisan basis. Only then could it be fair." …

For the record, the Gowdy committee is going to be comprised of seven Republicans and five Democrats. Which is probably too generous to the Democrats.

In response to Pelosi’s statement Tuesday, his office pointed out that in 2007, Pelosi thought a 9-6 ratio of Democrats and Republicans was “fair” when she established a Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming.

You mean Ms. Pelosi is a hypocrite?

Political maneuvering, therefore, may be at play: Pelosi’s request for an equal number of Democrats and Republicans on the committee may be about giving her an excuse not to appoint any Democrats at all if she doesn’t get her way.

Who can doubt it?

Meanwhile, we have this from the Politico:

Police investigate threats against Trey Gowdy

By LAUREN FRENCH | May 6, 2014

The U.S. Capitol Police are investigating threatening emails against Rep. Trey Gowdy, the South Carolina Republican recently tapped to lead a special panel probing the Benghazi terrorist attacks. The investigation comes after POLITICO reporters and journalists at other outlets received two emails on Tuesday warning that Gowdy would be harmed because of his role in investigating the 2012 attacks.

So it’s not the usual trick of people claiming to be threatened without any evidence, in order to get sympathy. (Cf. Harry Reid.) Even Gowdy’s enemies (the news media) got the emails.

The Capitol Police would not comment on the scope of the investigation but Officer Shennell Antrobus confirmed that there is “an active, open investigation.” …

Are they checking the email accounts of Democrat Congressmen and their staffers?

What a fine bunch of reprobates demanding equal representation on anything! Progressives are some of the least tolerant people on the planet- demanding equality only when it serves them. Equality as a concept, as in the application to everyone, is lost on them. These evil, arrogant, and narrow minded totalitarians tolerate no other view but their own. There is no discussion, only imposition.

Pelosi : “It should require that witnesses are called and interviewed, subpoenas are issued, and information is shared on a bipartisan basis.”

If the committee is equally divided, as Madame Defarge demands, the Democrat members will then be able to veto every aspect of the investigation, every proposed subpoena for witnesses or documents, every procedure.

Moreover, it will become easier for them to characterize the proceedings as a partisan witch-hunt, when every matter brought before the committee for action results in a tie vote.
