Dems Lock Out The GOP – Media Laughs

From a bemused Washington Post:

Partisan anger in House brings lockout of committee Republicans

By Ben Pershing
Friday, October 23, 2009

The House of Representatives, ever the rowdier and more populist of the two chambers of Congress, has been the scene of incessant partisan warfare in 2009, as each party appears to be in a near-constant state of outrage over the behavior of the other.

The picture got uglier this week when Democrats on a House committee changed the locks on a hearing room door in retaliation for an embarrassing video posted online by panel Republicans. What started as a dispute over an oversight probe blossomed into a mini-melodrama, with each side accusing the other of petty and childish behavior.

This latest blow to interparty relations started last week in the Rayburn House Office Building.

Last Thursday, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee was set to hold a routine business meeting. Before the session, its ranking Republican, Rep. Darrell Issa (Calif.), made clear that he planned to call for the panel to subpoena Bank of America for documents related to Countrywide Financial Corp.’s infamous "Friends of Angelo" VIP mortgage program

When Thursday’s committee meeting began, however, the Democrats were absent, and Republican members said they waited for more than half an hour before being told the session had been canceled because of scheduling conflicts. Democrats, meanwhile, were meeting in a private room behind the hearing room.

A Republican aide videotaped Democratic lawmakers leaving that gathering through a back door. The GOP interspersed that tape with footage of empty chairs from the main hearing room, and posted the video on the committee’s minority Web site (and YouTube), set to the tune, "Hit the Road, Jack."

The majority was not pleased.

On Monday, panel Democrats had the lock changed on the door leading from the GOP’s office space into the main hearing room. They did so, Towns’ office said, because Republicans "don’t know how to behave."

To critics, the scuffle is the latest symptom of the chamber’s poisonous atmosphere.

"It’s been the worst since I started my career on Capitol Hill in 1959," said David Abshire, a former House aide and expert on civility who heads the Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress.

Squabbling over committee rooms is not new on Capitol Hill. In 2003, the House Ways and Means Committee erupted into warfare after the panel’s chairman, Rep. Bill Thomas (R-Calif.), summoned the Capitol Police to evict Democrats from a committee room in which they were huddling during a contentious markup of a pension reform bill. (Amid the bickering, one Democratic lawmaker repeatedly called a Republican a "fruitcake.") Thomas ended up delivering a tearful apology on the House floor.

But these days even apologies seem scarce. Democrats wanted — but did not receive — an apology in September from Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.), who yelled "You lie!" at President Obama during an address to a joint session of Congress. A few weeks later, Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) declined to apologize for saying of the GOP’s health-care plans: "Republicans want you to die quickly." …

As for the latest dispute, tempers have cooled. Issa and Towns met Wednesday to chart a way forward in the Countrywide investigation, and by Thursday, committee Republicans had taken down the offending video.

The hearing room door remained locked.

Note how a story about Democrats locking Republicans out of a hearing room is so concerned about given us a full explanation of the slights on both sides.

Democrats control every branch of government. And yet they are resorting to unprecedented bullying tactics, such as cutting off microphones and lights, jimmying procedural rules to cut Republicans out of the legislative process.

And now they are locking the opposition out of hearing rooms in the House of Representatives.

This should outrage an independent press. But, alas, our watchdog media is owned lock stock and barrel by the Democrat party. So we get watered down accounts like this.

You see, both sides do it.

And after all, partisanship is to blame.

Endanger the Dems? Be prepared for the consequences.

    From FoxNews.com:

Oversight Panel’s Democrats Lock Out Republicans After Dispute

The Democratic chairman of the House committee responsible for government oversight has indefinitely locked Republican members out of the hearing room, following a dispute over a mortgage loan controversy.

Kurt Bardella, spokesman for ranking Republican Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., said Chairman Edolphus Towns, D-N.Y., had the locks on the Republican entrance changed Tuesday.

The move was apparently was in retaliation for Issa’s efforts to subpoena records on Countrywide’s so-called VIP loan program and for a video Issa’s staff recorded of Democrats darting from their chambers a week ago in the face of a vote.

“They say we will have access to the hearing room when the general public does,” Bardella told Foxnews.com. “I’m embarrassed for them.”

Bardella jokingly toyed with the idea of “TP”-ing the hearing room in response. “We can play at the second-grade level just like anybody else can,” he said.

A representative from Towns’s office could not be reached for comment.

The chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee apparently was miffed over a video the Republicans took last Thursday and posted on the minority Web site.

At the meeting, Issa had threatened to demand a vote on subpoenaing Bank of America for records of the Countrywide loan program, through which prominent members of Congress and officials are accused of receiving VIP loans. Democrats cancelled the meeting, though, citing a conflict with another committee.

Issa’s office posted a Web video, under the title “Hit the Road, Jack,” showing empty Democratic seats in the hearing room, followed by footage of Democrats leaving their chambers. …

How wonderfully mature of the left.

    This is “open government,” Democrat-style.

If only Joe Wilson had taken a cue from Charlie Brown when Lucy tried to get him to kick the football. Charlie Brown astutely and correctly assessed the situation thus:

“I don’t mind your dishonesty half as much as I mind your opinion of me; You must think I’m stupid.”

    And later:

“You just want me to come running up on that football so you can pull it away and see me land flat on my back and kill myself”

Lucy is clearly the manipulator and the de facto operative of the democrat party, wanting Charlie Brown (the republican) to play into their hands.

I think it’s time for Charlie Brown, in the form of John McCain to stop playing the decent, honest, Richie Cunningham dupe and start being more of a John Wayne, Jimmy Cagney type and being tough but fair.

    Or, not.

Yesterday, the White House refused to allow Fox to participate in the group of WH reporters who were scheduled to interview the Pay Czar.

For once, the WH press corps showed some backbone and refused to do the interview without Fox.

But it’s a clear illustration that the thugs will never stop pushing for more control.

I know you roll your eyes when I say the Moron is the most dangerous person to appear on Earth in the last 80 years, but give it some thought. I base it on the fact that the United States has been the greatest force for good in the world, and the country that has kept the world from a world war since the mid-40’s. In nine months, that position at the gates of hell has been seriously eroded. And the thugs are just getting started.

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

Just one small correction. It’s not “pay czar” anymore. It’s “Special Master”. If that tells you anything. Feinberg has been given carte blanche to do as he will with exec pay and is loving every minute of it.

On a side note, Obama does give a lot of free reign to people of Jewish descent as regards the economy. It has occurred to me that this may be a potential setup for a lot of antisemitic rhetoric in the coming months, to say nothing of potential scapegoats to be thrown under the bus. Sure, sounds a little nutty at first but…so did the concept of the federal government taking over GM and AIG, etc. And he is a master at fueling the class envy fire, you may note. Can “blaming the Jews” be that much of a reach? Especially given his master manipulation of race-relations?

I think that nothing is out of the realm of possibility right now.

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

Feinstein, not Fienberg. The edit feature is inop. My mistake.

    • proreason says:

I hadn’t caught the “Special Master” thing yet. It’s another great example of Orwellian speech that seems to be a key plank of the Fascsters strategy.

On the Jewish ancestry point, it’s a curious fact that so many Jews seem to migrate to the Fascsters. I’ve never seen a good explanation of why. I suppose it’s the same phenomenon that attracts many women to violent men.

And you could be right about using the Jewish fools for cover. There is NO question that this cabal is virulently anti-Semetic. As the Moron’s approval ratings continue to plummet, there will certainly be an escalation of the demonization. And historically, we have seen the results of that scores of times.

I’m not Jewish, but if I were, I would be girding my loins even moreso than I already am.

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

Oh, jeez, Steve, fix the edit feature, please. It isFeinberg…Kenneth Feinberg..or was it Feinmann? Feinstein? Feinwitz?

Gee, it’s almost as childish as when Democrats in the Clinton White House cost thousands in damaging public property and took out the “w” letters out of the keyboards before Bush took office.

The only way the press would be outraged is if it were the GOP locking out Democrats.

    To Washington we must go.

OBAMA APPOINTEE KEVIN JENNINGS: FISTING AND “[F–k] ‘em” to the “Religious Right”
This is sick. (hat tip PC Wild thing)

President Obama has appointed Kevin Jennings, founder of GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network) — which sponsored the conference that produced the notorious “Fistgate” scandal (in which young teens were guided on how to perform dangerous homosexual perversions including “fisting”) — to head up “Safe Schools” efforts at the Department of Education. Jennings is a vicious, anti-religious bigot who once said “[F–k] ‘em” to the “Religious Right.” He supports promoting homosexuality and gender confusion as normative to even young students. He made that comment in a New York City church. TAKE ACTION: Urge your U.S. Congressman and Senators to call for the withdrawal of Jennings’ appointment at the Education Department. Call Congress at 202-224-3121 or 202-225-3121. More here,

You can’t make this stuff up. Obama has appointed this radical to head up our “safe schools”? But who is going to keep kids safe from him? I have said this before: I don’t care what you do in the bedroom – whatever rocks your boat, as long as it’s two consenting adults, but don’t bring it into the classroom. The left will twist this into some homophobic charge. I am not, and that is a fallacious argument. This is another terrible Obama choice. Do not traumatize children. Why can’t the schools just teach reading, writing, arithmetic and civics? There is radical in every Obama appointee.

    Over at Mass Resistance:

Students as young as 12 given graphic instruction in homosexual sex by state employees

The Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network (GLSEN) is a national homosexual activist group targeting children in the public schools. Its founder, Kevin Jennings, was recently appointed to a high position in U. S. Department of Education by Barack Obama. GLSEN is part of the tax-supported Massachusetts Commission on Gay Lesbian Bisexual and Transgender Youth. (In fact, GLSEN’s membership in that commission is mandated by law!)

On March 25, 2000, GLSEN put on a conference called “TeachOut” for kids across and public school teachers across Massachusetts. This conference was co-sponsored by the Massachusetts Department of Education.

At this conference children as young as 12 years old were taught by state employees how to engage in various extremely dangerous (and disgusting) homosexual sex acts. Scott Whiteman, then an employee of Parents Rights Coalition (as MassResistance was known then) attended the conference and tape-recorded those workshops. Soon afterwards, a tape was released with the actual voices of the adults — state employees — made during the workshop (described below). That tape sent shock waves across the country. The story was covered by media in the US and other countries, and is even written about in several books. Soon afterwards a court banned the posting or distribution of the “Fistgate” tape until recently.

The following article was written by Scott Whiteman and Brian Camenker immediately after the incident and was published in the May, 2000, issue of Massachusetts News. It led to national media coverage and two lawsuits.

Students Given Graphic Instruction In Homosexual Sex
By Brian Camenker and Scott Whiteman
Massachusetts News – May, 2000 edition

“Fisting [forcing one’s entire hand into another person’s rectum or vagina] often gets a bad rap….[It’s] an experience of letting somebody into your body that you want to be that close and intimate with…[and] to put you into an exploratory mode.”

The above quotation comes from Massachusetts Department of Education employees describing the pleasures of homosexual sex to a group of high school students at a state-sponsored workshop on March 25, 2000.

On March 25, a statewide conference, called “Teach-Out,” was sponsored by the Massachusetts Department of Education, the Governor’s Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth, and the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN).

Among the goals were to build more Gay/Straight Alliances in Massachusetts and expand homosexual teaching into the lower grades. Scores of gay-friendly teachers and administrators attended. They received state “profespsional development credits.”
