Dems Tell Obama To Start Blaming GOP

A little surrealism, via the Politico:

D.C. Dems to Obama: Aim fire at GOP

[I]n [Mr. Obama’s fundraising speech with Pelosi, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) and other senior Democrats in] Buffalo, he took credit for the [country’s economic] progress; in New York, he lauded the House Democrats for whom he was raising money.

And the tone and tenor were different…

Democrats on Capitol Hill want him to wield that sharper edge at official events, too.

“I think the picture the president painted at the fundraiser of the direction Republicans want to take this country” and what Democrats have accomplished “is the kind of language we’d like to see more of,” said a House Democratic leadership aide. “But there’s still room for improvement.”

Pelosi and other House leaders told senior White House aides at a recent closed-door meeting that they felt the president was spending too much time bashing Washington without pointing the finger of blame at Republicans – a rhetorical nuance they argued could backfire by provoking voter anger at the party in charge in Congress.

On Thursday night, there was no confusing Obama’s belief that Republicans aren’t doing their part to solve the nation’s problems.

Here’s the president at the fundraiser:

“You would have thought at a time of historic crisis that Republican leaders would have been more willing to help us find a way out of this mess — particularly since they created the mess … [W]e got our mops and brooms out, we’re cleaning stuff out, and they’re just sitting there saying, ‘Hold the broom better, that’s not how you mop.’ Don’t tell me how to mop. Pick up a mop!” ..

“So after they drove the car into the ditch, made it as difficult as possible for us to pull it back, now they want the keys back. No! You can’t drive!,” the president riffed. “We don’t want to have to back into the ditch. We just got the car out.” …

“The reason the economy is getting better is because [Speaker] Nancy Pelosi and every Democrat here embraced the responsibility to lead … It happened because we embraced the responsibility to finally take on problems that Washington had talked about for years, sometimes decades, and put off over and over and over again. That’s what this Congress has been doing,” he said…

Democratic aides on the Hill said they were pleased with his fundraiser comments mostly because they were amplified in national television clips on Friday – giving a broad audience a taste of the president as a Democratic partisan…

But in Obama’s comments in front of workers in Buffalo earlier in the day, the generic “Washington” took heavy lumps and Republicans were given a much lighter grilling – underscoring the delicate manner in which the president finesses partisan rhetoric to remain above the fray in official settings.

As we warned, this is quite surreal.

After all, what was the theme of Mr. Obama’s campaign for the Presidency and his mantra since he has taken office but: “It’s Bush’s fault!”

But now the Democrats want him to start attacking the Republicans? Their dim prospects in November really seem to be driving them insane.

And it is an increasingly short drive.

This is deja-vu all over again. He uttered all this inanity in January or February of this year, perhaps even last Fall, I don’t recall. I do know I’ve heard him vomit all these lines before, not too long ago.

Looks to me like it’s a rehashed piece with some creative construction from past events.

edit: I was correct. See here: http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/obama-tells-health-reform-critics-grab-mop/story?id=8843741

    Go for it slugger.

But seriously, we have entered one of history’s seminal periods. We are living it NOW.

Within the next year, the world will know whether the people of the United States have decided to fight for and restore the principles that have made it the greatest country of all time, the greatest force the world has ever seen, and the greatest builder of wealth ever…….or whether they will roll over to beg for scraps from a new aristocracy, the new socialist slave masters determined to turn back the clock to the 15th century when a handful of untouchable rulers lived in unimaginable luxury, while the other 99% of the world lived as serfs groveling in the dirt.

Vote in November or descend into a new Dark Age.

“The art of leadership… consists in consolidating the attention of the people against a single adversary and taking care that nothing will split up that attention… The leader of genius must have the ability to make different opponents appear as if they belonged to one category.”

    And the downward spiral continues.

Since WHEN do democrats care about someone driving a car into a ditch, and running away from the scene of an accident? It’s not a crime, in fact, you get to serve 47 years in the Senate!”
