Dems/NYT Out Karzai’s Brother As ‘CIA’

From a suddenly and selectively outraged New York Times:

Brother of Afghan Leader Is Said to Be on C.I.A. Payroll

By DEXTER FILKINS, MARK MAZZETTI and JAMES RISEN

October 28, 2009

KABUL, Afghanistan — Ahmed Wali Karzai, the brother of the Afghan president and a suspected player in the country’s booming illegal opium trade, gets regular payments from the Central Intelligence Agency, and has for much of the past eight years, according to current and former American officials.

The agency pays Mr. Karzai for a variety of services, including helping to recruit an Afghan paramilitary force that operates at the C.I.A.’s direction in and around the southern city of Kandahar, Mr. Karzai’s home.

The financial ties and close working relationship between the intelligence agency and Mr. Karzai raise significant questions about America’s war strategy, which is currently under review at the White House.

The ties to Mr. Karzai have created deep divisions within the Obama administration. The critics say the ties complicate America’s increasingly tense relationship with President Hamid Karzai, who has struggled to build sustained popularity among Afghans and has long been portrayed by the Taliban as an American puppet. The C.I.A.’s practices also suggest that the United States is not doing everything in its power to stamp out the lucrative Afghan drug trade, a major source of revenue for the Taliban.

More broadly, some American officials argue that the reliance on Ahmed Wali Karzai, the most powerful figure in a large area of southern Afghanistan where the Taliban insurgency is strongest, undermines the American push to develop an effective central government that can maintain law and order and eventually allow the United States to withdraw

Ahmed Wali Karzai said in an interview that he cooperated with American civilian and military officials, but did not engage in the drug trade and did not receive payments from the C.I.A.

The relationship between Mr. Karzai and the C.I.A. is wide ranging, several American officials said. He helps the C.I.A. operate a paramilitary group, the Kandahar Strike Force, that is used for raids against suspected insurgents and terrorists. On at least one occasion, the strike force has been accused of mounting an unauthorized operation against an official of the Afghan government, the officials said.

Mr. Karzai is also paid for allowing the C.I.A. and American Special Operations troops to rent a large compound outside the city — the former home of Mullah Mohammed Omar, the Taliban’s founder. The same compound is also the base of the Kandahar Strike Force. “He’s our landlord,” a senior American official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

Mr. Karzai also helps the C.I.A. communicate with and sometimes meet with Afghans loyal to the Taliban. Mr. Karzai’s role as a go-between between the Americans and the Taliban is now regarded as valuable by those who support working with Mr. Karzai, as the Obama administration is placing a greater focus on encouraging Taliban leaders to change sides

At the start of the Afghan war, just after the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the United States, American officials paid warlords with questionable backgrounds to help topple the Taliban and maintain order with relatively few American troops committed to fight in the country. But as the Taliban has become resurgent and the war has intensified, Americans have increasingly viewed a strong and credible central government as crucial to turning back the Taliban’s advances.

Now, with more American lives on the line, the relationship with Mr. Karzai is setting off anger and frustration among American military officers and other officials in the Obama administration. They say that Mr. Karzai’s suspected role in the drug trade, as well as what they describe as the mafialike way that he lords over southern Afghanistan, makes him a malevolent force.

These military and political officials say the evidence, though largely circumstantial, suggests strongly that Mr. Karzai has enriched himself by helping the illegal trade in poppy and opium to flourish. The assessment of these military and senior officials in the Obama administration dovetails with that of senior officials in the Bush administration…

Senior Afghan investigators say they know plenty about Mr. Karzai’s involvement in the drug business. In an interview in Kabul this year, a top former Afghan Interior Ministry official familiar with Afghan counternarcotics operations said that a major source of Mr. Karzai’s influence over the drug trade was his control over key bridges crossing the Helmand River on the route between the opium growing regions of Helmand Province and Kandahar.

The former Interior Ministry official said that Mr. Karzai was able to charge huge fees to drug traffickers to allow their drug-laden trucks to cross the bridges…

In debriefing notes from Drug Enforcement Administration interviews in 2006 of Afghan informants obtained by The New York Times, one key informant said that Ahmed Wali Karzai had benefited from the American operation that lured Hajji Bashir Noorzai, a major Afghan drug lord during the time that the Taliban ruled Afghanistan, to New York in 2005. Mr. Noorzai was convicted on drug and conspiracy charges in New York in 2008, and was sentenced to life in prison this year.

Habibullah Jan, a local military commander and later a member of Parliament from Kandahar, told the D.E.A. in 2006 that Mr. Karzai had teamed with Haji Juma Khan to take over a portion of the Noorzai drug business after Mr. Noorzai’s arrest.

Man, Mr. Obama and the rest of the Democrats and their minions in the media really want Mr. Karzai’s rival to win.

What do they expect the other candidate, Mr. Abdullah, is going to do for them?

The financial ties and close working relationship between the intelligence agency and Mr. Karzai raise significant questions about America’s war strategy, which is currently under review at the White House.

Oh, yes. This revelation may make us have to re-think the lives and treasure we have poured into fighting in Afghanistan. Gosh, if Karzai’s brother is involved in the opium trade, maybe the attacks on 9/11 weren’t so bad after all.

By the way, doesn’t the Taliban practically fund its entire operation through its heroin sales? Where is Mr. Obama’s outrage about that?

Of course it is a bit the ironic to see a George Soros puppet, like Mr. Obama, pretending to be incensed at drug dealing. Mr. Soros has spent billions trying to do away with most if not all of the laws against drug use.

And Mr. Obama seems to be following his lead as best he can in this country.

In any case, we are reminded of our experiences in another country on the other side of the globe, via Wikipedia:

Ngô Đình Diệm

On orders from U.S. President John F. Kennedy, Henry Cabot Lodge, the American ambassador to South Vietnam, refused to meet with Diệm. Upon hearing that a coup d’etat was being designed by ARVN generals led by General Dương Văn Minh, the United States gave secret assurances to the generals that the U.S. would not interfere. Dương Văn Minh and his co-conspirators overthrew the government on November 1, 1963.

The coup was very swift. On November 1, 1963, with only the palace guard remaining to defend President Diệm and his younger brother, Ngô Đình Nhu, the generals called the palace offering Diệm safe exile out of the country if he surrendered. However, that evening, Diệm and his entourage escaped via an underground passage to Cholon, where they were captured the following morning, November 2. The brothers were executed in the back of an armoured personnel carrier by Captain Nguyen Van Nhung while en route to the Vietnamese Joint General Staff headquarters. Diệm was buried in an unmarked grave in a cemetery next to the house of the U.S. ambassador.

Upon learning of Diệm’s ouster and death, Ho Chi Minh is reported to have said, "I can scarcely believe the Americans would be so stupid." The North Vietnamese Politburo was more explicit, predicting: "The consequences of the 1 November coup d’état will be contrary to the calculations of the U.S. imperialists … Diệm was one of the strongest individuals resisting the people and Communism. Everything that could be done in an attempt to crush the revolution was carried out by Diệm. Diệm was one of the most competent lackeys of the U.S. imperialists … Among the anti-Communists in South Vietnam or exiled in other countries, no one has sufficient political assets and abilities to cause others to obey. Therefore, the lackey administration cannot be stabilized. The coup d’état on 1 November 1963 will not be the last."

After Diệm’s assassination, South Vietnam was unable to establish a stable government and numerous coups took place during the first several years after his death. While the U.S. continued to influence South Vietnam’s government, the assassination bolstered North Vietnamese attempts to characterize the South Vietnamese as supporters of colonialism.

Again, the most things change the more Democrats remain the same.

Gerald Posner has written a great piece in response to these charges, at the Daily Beast:

We should be grateful to the Slimes. If it weren’t for them, the truth would often be difficult to discern.

But with them in charge of the country’s foreign policy, we always have the clearest possible roadsign pointing to the most destructive path the US could take. That is, whatever the Slimes advocates.

  3. beautyofreason

It’s as if the left wants us to fail both militarily and diplomatically.

    (sarcasm)

Well … I can’t say, since I have no way to independently verify the charges against Ahmed. And if he does take money from the CIA, well, so what? Congress funds the CIA, so it’s not like Congress disapproves of the Company. Or, their contacts.

On a very real issue though, Karzai’s Durrani tribe, has been quite explicitly linked to a specific residential address in New Jersey which in turn is known by our Intel agencies, the DEA, FBI, etc to be the HQ of 7/8s of the heroin traffic into America. Now that … is reason for outrage.

Never ever ever doubt the war in Afghanistan …. EVERY TIME, EVERY ERA … is over control of the land where 90% of the world’s poppy crops are grown. A lesson from Lebanon’s Bekka Valley … you cannot grow crops of illegal, immoral and corrupting drugs in nations with strong stable governments. Only within the boundaries of territories where civil war, guerilla unrest and armed strife can money grow on trees. Only in an unstable country.

That tell you anything about Afghanistan?

Also, the USA can END the war in Afghanistan by this time next week … if we will use the micro-herbicide developed by DARPA that specially and only targets papipver somaferum, the heroin poppy. We have it. In aerosol form. Sprayable from crop dusters. 100% permanently effective.

Since the annual value of the heroin trade from Afghanistan is estimated to be between $400 Billion and $800 Billion, you can guess why it’s more palatable (to our Keepers) to despatch our best and brightest to their deaths in the struggle to control this trade than it is to simply eradicate it once and for all. After all, this war is all about our Keepers getting control of the profits from the trade.

Remember, Harvard, Yale and Princeton – to name a few – were ALL funded with profits from the Opium Trade.

Do you honestly think the scion-families responsible for using opium trade money to found these universities GOT OUT OF A BUSINESS where money grows on trees?

If you do, you’re dumber than dirt.

If you understand this, then you understand the Kennedys, the Kennedy-Onassis blood feud and a whole lot more.

Our best and brightest are being chewed up to preserve control of the most corrupting drug on the planet.

    Don’t EVER doubt it.

The funding of Islamic radical crazy bat-sh** mysogynist insanely violent nihilist anarchist theocrats is just a sub-set of the Real War. The war for Afghanistan is a war to control funding of radical Islam’s assault on Western Civilization by controlling (+,-) $800 Billion to spend on ways to wage war on us. The US Defense Dept’s 2009 budget is only $515 Billion … compare them apples, bubba.

GetBack, I have no knowledge of or way to verify what you say, but I do know this.

Two years ago I would have laughed at you as as a nut.

But having been a witness to events in this country that I couldn’t have imagined two years ago, having witnessed international criminals seizing near complete power in the strongest country that ever existed, I do now know that the people that run this country are as corrupt and immoral as it is possible to be.

I now believe they are fully capable of every detail of what you claim…..and if they are not in fact doing those things, they are definitely taking other actions that are causing the deaths of our young men and women military heroes….and not for the reason of keeping our country safe……but for their own personal aggrandizement.

Dr. Douglass is the really real deal. You have my assurance that every word he has put to paper is sincerely and authentically the truth. Listen to me … he’s telling you the truth.

If you want this book, I can point you to a source for around $40 and change. Instead of the Amazon collector’s price.

Now, as to Harvard, Yale, etc.

    http://newsmakingnews.com/lmharvardpart2.htm

The history of Elihu Yale, Russell and the founding financial benefactors of all the Ivy League colleges were each and all in the ‘China Trade’. Which was a polite euphemism for Opium. Great sea merchant families of stupendous wealth born of their opium business. It’s not that hard to research. The idea that they would walk away from that kind of profit is laughable. Over 300 years they’ve built up mind boggling layers of banks, cut-outs, political muscle and connections. They are Untouchable. Anything that gets close to them is plausibly deniable.

Or, let me remind of a line from the Matrix when the Merovingian says (and quite rightly) “Choice is an illusion, created between those with power.” It is vital to understand that you have almost no ability to make your own choices because you can only choose between those things, events and ideas that have been allowed to be. Real choice is stepping outside the paradigm and honestly admitting What Is. That’s very very hard to do.

The above link sounds too incredible to be anything but hot air from an overheated imagination, but I know Catherine Austin Fitts, former Senior Partner and member of the Board of Directors at Dillon Reed. From her CV – Catherine Austin Fitts is the President of Solari, Inc. She is a former member of the Board of Directors and partner of Dillon Read & Company, a former Assistant Secretary of Housing in the Bush Administration, and President of The Hamilton Securities Group. Ms. Fitts is a member of The Economics Club of New York and the board of the Friends Select School. She is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania (BA) and the Wharton School (MBA). She swings a big bat and she’s got serious stones. Do not doubt her facts. She went to Washington from Dillon to find HUD’s missing $59 billion and damned near got assassinated for discovering what the Democrats had rigged.

Because when you start to follow the money you discover Harvard is the largest slum lord (owner) in the free world, deep in the drug war, has a Board that reads like a who’s Who of international crime lords and this path takes you to Danny Casalaro, INSLAW, Promis, the Cabazon Indian Reservation, political intrigue to make Ian Flemings’ hair fall out … Patricia Schroeder suddenly walking away from the Senate to go home and write a book … documented reports of the Angel of Death visiting key members of Congress with a sheaf of printouts and them suddenly resigning … have you not noticed there is a civil war going on inside our borders? Has been for nearly thirty years? Ask John Tower next time you see him, or Gen Clark Feister, or the several nuclear experts who’ve recently taken a tumble at the UN. The war is everywhere around you.

Once you grasp that Communism is a mafia … not a political movement, but a criminal mafia … ORGANIZED around political theory in order to live like a virus off an entire host nation you’ll begin to grasp the depth and size and power of the thing that finally has us in it’s claws. And the Democrats were this mafia’s North American chapter, and now the Republicans have succumbed to the infamous Longshanks offer of Land and Titles … well … your only hope of understanding the back story is to …

    Follow … the … money …

“Communism is a mafia … not a political movement, but a criminal mafia … ORGANIZED around political theory in order to live like a virus off an entire host nation you’ll begin to grasp the depth and size and power of the thing that finally has us in it’s claws”

      Exactly.

All of the ism’s are the same thing, dressed up in different clothes.

As one magical explanation for why the criminals must control our lives and labor loses favor, another arises.

And it’s why the health of the economy is of no concern to them.

If you are one of a hundred people controlling 90% of 13 trillion, 90% of 12 trillion can be even better, provided that your control is even stronger.

Since the left was in such a hurry to find out who “leaked” Valerie Plame’s CIA status, I think there needs to be an immediate investigation into this. We should leave no stone unturned and the President should not allow his staff to claim ‘executive privelege,’ we all know the left hates that. Make your enemy live up to their own rule book- Rules for Radicals.
