Despite Obama’s Promises, Sandy Aid Still Scarce

From a non-blaming Reuters:

A year after Superstorm Sandy, federal aid trickles in

By Hilary Russ | Fri Oct 25, 2013

(Reuters) – A year after Superstorm Sandy wreaked havoc across the eastern United States, only a fraction of the aid money earmarked for recovery has been used, in what some claim is a painfully slow and opaque process.

Only $5.2 billion of the pledged $47.9 billion had been tapped by cities and states by the end of August, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. And tracking those funds has been complicated, lawmakers said…

"Red tape is a critical reality that frustrates our impacted residents more than it should. It’s awful for those suffering most, and we are working tirelessly to deal with it," Michael Drewniak, a spokesman for New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, said in an email to Reuters…

But Obama said he was going to cut the red tape. He also said he would never rest until all of the victims of Sandy got aid.

And yet, weirdly, Obama’s name does not appear once in this article. Or, in fact, in most of the Sandy anniversary articles. Compare and contrast that with our one party news media’s coverage of Bush and Katrina.

Meanwhile, as we noted yesterday, via the Daily Caller:

Company behind Obamacare website in charge of nearly $2 billion in Sandy relief

By Allison Coyle | October 26, 2013

GI Federal Inc., the mastermind behind healthcare.gov, is assisting the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in the distribution of $1.7 billion in relief for Hurricane Sandy.

In a memo obtained by FreedomWorks titled, “Minutes of the 295th meeting of the members of the Housing Trust Fund Corporation held on May 9, 2013, at 8:30 a.m.,” CGI Federal is tasked with implementing the Disaster Housing Assistance Program. Additionally, they are asked to aid in the implementation of the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Program, an assistance program that had recently obtained $1.7 billion…

The Associated Press revealed Tuesday that a mere $700 million of the $60 billion federal aid package – 1.2 percent of the total funds – has been given to victims of super storm Sandy. Nearly a year after the devastating storm, a majority of the 24,000 families that have requested monetary assistance have yet to receive a penny from the federal aid package.

And yet Obama actually rewarded a company that has failed in delivering aid to Sandy victims.

And here have still more Sandy news, from the Washington Examiner:

Obama doubles Hurricane Sandy fund to $10b — to help fight global warming

By PAUL BEDARD | OCTOBER 28, 2013

The Obama administration has doubled its Hurricane Sandy fund to $10.4 billion, demanding that those seeking “recovery funds” prove that their repairs and construction will help fight climate change–or at least survive it.

The Housing and Urban Development Department, in setting another $5 billion aside, stipulated that each grant applicant “include climate change impacts” and factor in the potential for a global warming rise in sea levels…

We thought Obama was going to cut all the red tape. But here he is adding more red tape. Could these new preposterous ‘global warming’ requirements be what is really holding up federal aid? In any case, we wonder how many Obama voters on the Jersey coast are aware of this new wrinkle?

I’d like to see Mooch and her BFF hauled before Congress. Via the Daily Caller – Michelle Obama’s relationship with Princeton classmate Toni McCall Townes-Whitley, whose company earned the no-bid contract to design the disastrous Healthcare.Gov Obamacare website, continued after the Obamas moved into the White House.

Townes-Whitley and her husband even enjoyed “Christmas with the Obamas” at the White House in December 2010, according to a Facebook album created by Townes-Whitley.

Although neither Michelle Obama nor Townes-Whitley has discussed their relationship, the Christmas event took place just seven months after Townes-Whitley joined CGI Federal as a senior vice president.
