DHS Wants Review Of Criminal Illegal Alien Releases

From the Associated Press:

DHS secretary asks to study immigration releases

By ALICIA A. CALDWELL | May 29, 2014

WASHINGTON (AP) — Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson is asking for an internal review of the Obama administration’s release of tens of thousands of immigrants in the country illegally who were convicted of crimes and facing deportation. He’s telling lawmakers he wants a deeper understanding of the issue.

How kind of him. How diligent. But these releases were first reported back in February of 2013. What has taken DHS so long to getting around to reviewing them?

And why can’t the head of DHS just order a review? What is stopping him? The White House? (Hint: See the end of the article.)

Federal data published this month showed that the Homeland Security Department released 36,007 convicted criminal immigrants last year who are facing deportation, including those accounting for 193 homicide and 426 sexual assault convictions. The immigrants nearly all still face deportation and are required to check in with immigration authorities while their deportation cases are pending.

As we have previously noted (until we are blue in the face), this 36,007 are in addition to the 68,000 illegal aliens with criminal convictions who were released by ICE before they even began deportation proceedings. So the real number released is 104,007. (36,007 + 68,000 = 104,007.)

News of the releases, which came amid an ongoing review of the Obama administration’s deportation policies, incensed Republican lawmakers who contend that President Barack Obama has not properly enforced immigration laws. The House Judiciary Committee chairman, Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., said the releases "needlessly endanger Americans’ lives."

What kind of crazy talk is that? How can releasing hundreds of murderers and rapists endanger American lives?

In testimony sent to Congress ahead of a hearing by the committee Thursday, Johnson said he was "committed to enforcing our immigration laws in a manner that best promotes and ensures national security, public safety and border security."

What could be more obvious?

He said he has asked for a "deeper understanding" of the releases, and he pledged to continue to work with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to ensure public safety.

He wants a deeper understanding? He doesn’t see where freeing criminal illegal aliens is a problem? Maybe he isn’t the man to be the head of ‘Homeland Security.’

Johnson said many of the releases were directed by an immigration judge or were prompted by other legal requirements…

BS. When DHS began these releases back in February 2003, they claimed they were being forced upon them by the budget cuts in the sequester. Which was a blatant lie. These releases are being done to placate Obama and his constituents.

The White House said this week it asked Johnson to delay completing his review of deportation policies until the end of the summer. It was a move aimed at salvaging hope for Congress to act on an immigration bill before November’s midterm elections.

In other words, the White House wants all of this covered up while they try to ram through amnesty. In a sane world, that request alone would be enough for a major scandal.

You don’t need to read any further than that. Any time an Obama lackey asks for an “internal review”, it means nothing will be done beyond standing around with their thumbs up one orafice or another until some other scandal pushes its way into the headlines. Which, thanks to Obama, they shouldn’t have to wait for. There seems to be a new scandal (well, not new, but new to Obama) every few days.
